Firstly, I'm vegan and my partner isn't. Upon arrival, we were given our menus and explained to that the meals could either be shared or ordered as individual starter and mains - we said we would like separate starters and mains as I am vegan. My partners starter came out first and we waited for mine to be not far behind.. 10+ minutes later I was given mine and we ate together - thankfully they were cold dishes. Then mains, this time mine arrived first, after nearly 15 minutes I asked where my partners main was to which the waitress said they had been staggering our meals as that's what they do. This is obviously not correct as we advised we wouldn't be sharing and wanted our individual meals at the start of ordering, and because 2 other tables were getting all their food at the same time. The waitress then took my once hot now room temp main back and bought out both mains together with mine now a fresh hot meal. (Both starter and main the staff clearly could see we weren't eating with until the other received there main, but continued to look not busy and ignore us instead of asking if everything was ok, yet we could see them watching us). Now with both mains, that's when we noticed not all of our sides were on the table, now 20+ minutes since the main was first served, I asked for the sides, they checked the order and apologised, 5 minutes later the fries ($14) arrived. We hadn't finished yet but I exused myself from the table, when I got back they had taken my plates and cutlery away while my partner was still eating, he said yes to this but thought they'd at least leave the cutlery as he told them I was still eating the sides. Nope, gone. Had to ask for more cutlery. Once dinner was finish and table was cleared we were waiting for a dessert menu, nope, after 10 minutes I had to ask for a dessert menu. Quality of food, I personally loved the beetroot entre and cauliflower curry, absolutely delicious, i could have ordered more cauliflower!! The fact that it is just heroing 1 vegetable each meal with no plant protein means you WILL be hungry when you leave. The serving size looks ok but it's not filling at all. My partner ordered the crab in shells, unfortunately there was no taste of seafood or crab at all, more like soft coleslaw, considering its $30+ for basically 2 spoon fulls.... He also ordered a main but they came back out to advise they had run out of that main and couldn't substitute the protein, so he settled for something else that was just ok. Desserts were nice, I was impressed they used aquafabba for meringues but it lacked flavour. The mandarin chocolate was delicious though. Presentation was nice. For a $250 meal for 2 people with a lot of hit and misses, I'd expect for hits, but this visit left A LOT to be desired. The lack of care and attention is the main reason I...

Took a friend to dinner for Valentine's Day. The menu hasn't changed in a few years, however, I was happy with my visit last time. We were only allowed to order a set menu, which I was fine with. My friend was vegetarian and I mentioned one of us is vegetarian in the booking. I thought I might be able to have the omnivore menu, however, when I arrived, the herbivore menu only was on our table, so I decided to accept that.

We were not offered a drinks menu (I would have loved as I cannot drink beer, wine or champagne due to an allergy issue) and it was assumed we were having still water (not sure if sparkling was an option).

Interestingly, the wait staff member brought out the first dish and said it was the spanner crab dish served in a shell.

I did enjoy the food as did my friend and dishes were served quickly.

My concern is the mis-communication about the set menu. The set menu had $75.00 clearly marked on it, listing the dishes. When I paid, it was $190 (2 x $95.00). I just called the restaurant and spoke with Damon to check and ask if I had been overcharged $40.00, and was told it was an error that was made in printing the menus, that both the omnivore and herbivore menus were the same price, attempts had been made to write over the price of some of the menus, however, it had been 'too hard' to achieve and it was decided to just leave the menus as they were with the $75.00 on them.

I was given a long story about what happened (events which I respect but am not interested in...that there had been an accident unrelated to the restaurant, the rain/storm but that he finally had been able to enjoy a glass of wine and oysters that evening with his wife). I informed him to be careful as this is non-compliant with advertising and consumer law.

As much as the food was lovely, these experiences have left a bitter taste in my mouth and I am not sure I will be looking to come here again or recommend others to, in the...

I had dinner here with four friends last night and overall very happy with the quality of the food. The menu was simple yet refined, the main concept was shared meals, and our waitress recommended two dishes per person so we went for 9 mains and 2 desserts. As they had a small ish menu, I can confidently say we’ve sampled 80% of their entire menu to give a fair review. The highlights of the night was the cured salmon and the fossilised carrots, the KFD was also very delicious and I’ve never really had fried duck quite as flavoursome and tender before. I also loved the nitro meringue - just the right amount of tartness to finish off the night. I would otherwise give this place a five star, however I need to take one star off for their service. For starters, when we arrive at 8, we were told the previous diners arrived late and they still had desserts to go which mean we had to sit outside. When we expressed that we were happy to have our meal outside, they never brought any menu to us as there was a miscommunication and they thought we were just sitting down to wait for our table to be ready. We didn’t get to our actual table until 8:30pm which was a shame. Later in the night, one waiter came to our table to ask whether we were still waiting for our desserts to be served when we’ve been waiting for a while with a new set of dessert plates and spoons in front of us, which I found quite strange. Also I’m also slightly concerned with the way they treat hygiene, as the waitress touched the tines of my fork while putting dishes down and the drinking end of my straw and I had to request for new fork and get rid of the straw for my drink. Overall, I would come back to try new menus but there’s something left to be desired in terms of the service and I would love to see that improve by...

We should have read the sign and detoured around Detour. Detour lost our order once and mangled it the second time, meaning we waited 3 hours for 7 dishes between 5 people. That by itself isn't terrible and it was easy to forgive our waiter who was dealing with stressful conditions, but was still very apologetic, friendly and otherwise attentive. What was terrible was how management dealt with it. They appeared to be more concerned with saving face than alleviating the issue. When they took our order the second time, an hour after they took our original, it would have been nice if they offered complimentary drinks to tide us over while we waited (again). When we went to pay they gave us the full bill unapologetically. When we politely asked if they could comp the drinks they seemingly acted ignorant to our evening's plight, even though this was the same manager who took our order the second time, and other staff members already confirmed the last two orders were lost and mangled. It's possible it was just a hectic night for them, but after two mistakes you think they'd pay a bit more attention to their customers. After that awkward confrontation they comped 2 of the 7 drinks we had that night. I really hope Detour can learn from this and place the blame where it's deserved, not with the honest and apologetic waiter, but with the non-apologetic management. On a happier note, we shared a combination of carnivore and herbivore dishes which were all scrumptious, with the herbivore dishes (Charcoal Broccoli, Pineapple Curry) standing out as the more interesting and tasty choices.
