Having a proper setup at home i only purchase whole beans, preferably single origins. I only go to merlo when i have to and cannot get to my regular roaster. My experiences with merlo beans have been average at best until a couple of weeks ago. I hesitantly picked up 1 kg of the bean of the month, burundi single, and was utterly disappointed as soon as i opened the package. The beans were roasted way beyond medium and were a very dark roast. Pulling the first few shots confirmed the initial disappointment as the coffee tasted bitter and nothing like a burundi should taste (my regular roaster and others i have tried over the years only ever roast singles medium to keep the profile). Due to work commitments, i could not get to merlo to return it so i gave them a call as soon as i had a chance (03.08). They refused a refund and only offered to give me a sample of the new bean of the month (columbia), despite me offering to drive the 20mins and show them how dark the roast is. At over $40 a kg i find this highly unacceptable. This was my last purchase from merlo and i will not recommend it to any real coffee/espresso lovers looking for quality roasted beans. Roasting beans this dark either means the roaster is trying to hide sth in the profile, is incompetent or made a mistake.
Update 24.08.19: Thanks for the offer and i wish it were serious! I promptly submitted my best contact number to the email provided. It's been almost two weeks and I haven't been contacted. While I didn't expect you to contact me, this further reinforced my experience with your establishment....
Read moreCame in for a takeaway coffee. Ordered a 16oz cap, the order was taken. The girl who seved me went off to do something else. After waiting a few minutes another girl came along to serve me again and saw that I had already ordered. One other girl was seving another lady buying a coffee percolator. The second girl who came to see to me was standing over at the coffe machine pretending to look busy. I don't think she knew how to work the machine. After waiting several more minutes the girl who was selling the coffee pot decided to trade places with the girl who was at the coffee machine. She then decided to fill the orders that were stacking up. Now i understand that it does get busy in the shop however if you are going to work in that environment you should at least be crosstrained in how to work a coffee machine. This is not the first time this has happened in this particular store. Previously I have kept it to myself but not this time. Overall poor service and poor...
Read moreBeen buying my coffee here since it opened so quite a few years 10+. The coffee is always superb and Merlo remains our all time favourite. Last 2-3 times I have called into Merlo Coorparoo something has changed the vibe is just rushed, unfriendly and the staff seem more interested in chatting to each other. When the product is handed over it's like here ya go now leave so we can keep chatting. Thought it was a one off but sadly no its the new attitude apparently. Just spent over $100 on Plunger coffee and usually do every two weeks but might be time to go down the road to Bellissimo Coffee as that's superb as well & maybe they will at least smile and be a little bit friendly. Might be time for management to have a team meeting as some of your staff are uninterested in the customers who when I last looked pay the bills. It used to be so good :( Luckily the coffee...
