Shingle Inn Mt Gravatt — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Please don’t waste your time or your money at this cafe!!! Ordered lunch here today and had the most dreadful experience I’ve had at a hospitality establishment in a VERY long time. We ordered a BLT and a Bacon & Leek Quiche. When the dishes arrived, the side salad that came with each of them was really awful, lack lustre quality, the lettuce/spinach all wilted, and the sliced cucumber and carrots clearly old. The salad was NOT crisp and simply NOT fresh!!! The sauce sparingly drizzled on top didn’t do it any favours either. The BLT had no sauce on it, and was simply bacon, tomato and lettuce, completely dry!!! That is NOT a BLT! To make it worse the bread was stale, again NOT fresh. I cannot believe I paid $15 for each of these meals. I went up to the counter and asked to speak to the manager, she came out from the kitchen and when I told her I wanted her to know our food was not fresh she began arguing with me and saying that either was. When I kept sharing my experience in a calm manner, she went and got a loaf of bread and a bag of salad (both brand new bags I will add!) and waved them in front of me…. she took zero responsibility and was not interested in what I had to say at all. I received no apology whatsoever, it was disgusting customer service. No customer deserves to be treated like that. There was no effort made to rectify my experience and worse still, we could see the staff gossiping about it in the kitchen. I wish I had taken a minute to read the reviews before I entered today, as after reading so many complaints that are similar to mine, I would never have visited. Service and food appalling! 2 staff on. Couldnt care attitude. Unhelpful. Looked like they didn't want to be there. Burnt coffee. Took forever to prepare food which was prepared with bare hands. Had view right into kitchen. They didn't wash or sanitize hands at all throughout meal preparation. Female staff member handled her glasses, wiped her hands constantly on filthy clothes and apron handled dirty dishes and made Coffee, handling till, then continued with food NOT washing hands. Transferred chips from container to plate, pretty much handling every chip! Served burnt sweet potato fries. When I asked to speak with the manager, the female staff member told me she WAS the manager! When I attempted to explain my concerns, burnt food, coffee, lack of hygiene and bad attitude, she argued with me that they are allowed to use bare hands and that she sanitised her hands. When I questioned use of utensils or gloves basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. When I asked if it was normal practice to serve burnt food she just shrugged her shoulders. and asked if I wanted more. I explained that we couldn't eat the food after watching there food prep.. She refunded $2 for the fries. Was very smug until I said I would be taking this further. If this person is your manager, I am not surprised by all the negative reviews and low star rating. A different attitude tonight would have made all the difference. I suggest further education on food handling and preparation; and customer service. Vote with your feet people and eat somewhere else! Are you looking for a great coffee house where you'll get fast service, a good cup of coffee, and friendly waiting staff? Then stay away from this place! Bang on the worst experience at any coffee shop/ shingle inn, having been a happy customer at other locations. Ordered a standard breakfast for 2 and cost over $50, here's what went wrong.. Poached eggs were completely cooked through Coffee took around 15 mins to make and they forgot one, then after being reminded they completely forgot again. Ended up getting my coffee when I finished my breakfast with no offer of a discount To add insult to injury, the coffee tasted like it was put through a toaster 'Big breakfast' doesn't come with tomato sauce?!?! Had to ask and pay 40c?! Wot Ordered avocado and hash brown as extra (extra $6) - both the singular hash brown and under ripe avo could be eaten in one bite

Couldn't complain in person as I was trying to seem pleasant in front of the missus. Hopefully they see this and attempt to change, but somehow I think they're comfortable with their poor form
