Uncle Li's — Restaurant in Brisbane City

Disappointing meal I'm afraid.

Reviews sounded promising and I wasn't really after anything special - just standard "Australian Chinese".

To start with a positive. The 4 Treasure fried rice was excellent. Not a huge serve but really nice.

We then had the Sichuan Style beef which was decent. A little spicy but not too much. Not a lot of flavour though but I would be happy to order again.

Unfortunately downhill from there.

The satay chicken sticks had a very unappealing sauce. Certainly nothing like any satay sauce I've ever tried before. The chicken itself was fine and well cooked.

The Chinese omelette was okay. But totally different to any Chinese omelette I've had before. Normally they are in layers, this was just one big chunk. And worse - no sauce. Which is what really makes it different to a western style omelette. Also not a lot of filler. Couldn't find shallots etc.

We finished with the honey chicken. Which reminded me of honey chicken you get in a cheap food court or buffet. Super thick batter (spot the chicken in there somewhere), not crispy and initially a bit dry (although this was improved on stirring it up.

Overall disappointing. Serves were a decent size and we had left overs for the 3 of us. But this was potentially also because my kids didn't really like the food and...

We came to this restaurant with a group of 4. The owner of the business served us and made sure we were comfortable. We ordered the 4-person banquet which included stir-fried vegetables with garlic sauce, cha siu (roast pork) & chicken, salt and pepper calamari, steamed fish, beef brisket and rice.

The size of each serving was small-moderate and generally well presented. The steamed fish was fresh but not scaled properly. The chicken was a little overcooked The beef brisket was actually a curry beef brisket pot but this wasn't made clear on the menu.

The layout of the restaurant is simple but was clean.

All in all, we were satisfied with the quality of the food and the service. Would recommend...

Since early 2022, I have been coming to this mom and pop shop at least 4 times a month. Have had 2 birthday parties hosted here.

The food has been delicious each and every time. They use fresh produce and make everything themselves. The uncle is funny and accomodating - always has a smile on his face. The aunty is always cooking, prepping, something to keep the store running. I have seen their grandchildren grow and become more confident in their customer service - they work weekends/school holidays and get paid a decent wage for helping their grandparents store!
