Stay anywhere else! Very long queues for highrise lifts (10-15 mins at times), very slow internet (couldn't even load pages sometimes let alone steam) and here are a few of the negatives during our stay:
Dust so thick on ceiling it was dropping onto bed Long waits for lifts Dirty dishes in cupboard just put away dirty TV in first apartment was very old with only a few channels despite them advertising "TV with streaming capabilities". It was barely a TV. Aircon that beeped every hour all day and all night Cracked broken shower head (in 2 separate apts we had)
The worst thing is we moved apartments half way through and were told the new apartment would be "VIP cleaned". It didn't need to be VIP - it just needed not to have used dishes in the cupboard and dust so thick it fell from the ceiling to the bed. Worst of all, when we moved to the "VIP" checked apartment it...
Had a cracked shower like the first one Had waste, rubbish and bottle tops under the furniture Had terrible linen - one single bed using a king duvet folded in half and a sheet too small for the bed. The other single had a king blanket folded in half and a sheet too big for the bed - if you are going to use the wrong linen, then be consistent at least.
The second apartment we had included housekeeping - but the housekeepers arrived at the door saying "extra towels" ready to hand over towels and leave. This was obviously a cost cutting strategy to reduce the number of guests who request actual housekeeping (which I'm sure we could have). You can book with or without housekeeping - save the money as housekeeping is awful.
The internet was deadly slow in both apartments most of the time, although a bit better midweek than weekends.
Whilst some effort was made to resolve the issues and fix things many of the issues shouldn't have been allowed to happen in the first place.
We had arranged an 11am check out (usual 10am). We had a cleaner knocking at 9.51am and a receptionist calling at 10.10am to see why we hadn't checked out. Although it was an error by them the receptionist wanted to argue (despite all the issues we'd had). Also, given the lifts take 10-15 mins at times 10 mins past check out seemed very fast to be chasing people up - even had we not arranged a late check out. It could easily take you 10 mins to get to reception with the long lift waits.
If only they were so efficient at checking apartments were clean, to the standard advertised, with the facilities advertised then perhaps they'd offer a better experience.
They have a decent gym, nice indoor pool for laps, and a small outdoor pool (more of a splash pool) which were good and the location were good.
Staff were friendly, and helpful - but I assume there just isn't sufficient management to ensure the
We have owned in serviced apartment blocks so appreciate each apartment is individually owned but it is the job of Oaks to manage them and ensure they are to standard.
They seem to be marketing themselves more as hotels, and they just aren't these are 3 star serviced apartments which are only bumped to 4 star due to the facilities.
I think its essentially pot luck if you get allocated an apartment where everything works, and pot luck if its quiet so you get good internet and easy lifts.
If its pot luck then you'd be better off booking somewhere that is...
Read moreThis hotel snags a spot on my "Worst Hotels I've Stayed" list. There are so many things that help it get there so I'm just going to do a room by room walk through. The bathroom, one of the most important spaces, is located at the entrance of the apartment. It makes those middle of the night trips to relieve yourself a midnight mission. Once you've made it out of bed you get to take the scenic route through the lounge/dining, in through the kitchen, where the temptation of midnight snacking is brought to a high especially upon the return leg of your late night marathon. The bathroom itself is a basic bathroom. It has a toilet, thank goodness, a shower and laundry facilities. The toiletries offered are low quality and basically non existent. Let's move onto the kitchen, small and looks nothing like the photos on the website. I'm not staying here to cook a five star menu but some proper champagne flutes for a celebratory toast would be a modest surmise. The fridge works, the coffee is lame let's not spend too much time here. The lounge/ dining/ living area. Let's just begin with the fact that the TV didn't work. It took ages of playing around with it, two desk calls, an hour or so waiting and one cranky toddler before it was up and running. Still no remote for the thing. Now apparently this apartment is a three adult occupancy so unlucky to the oddball who gets to crash on the 'non-sofa bed' couch. Unfortunately not everyone is as kinky as the hotel boss. Moving on, not much to see here. The bedroom. Well it has a bed. Again though the TV doesn't work, at all this time, and no replacements were available. There is a bedside alarm clock from the 90's for that added retro appeal. There's not much else I can say about this room other than the bed was of very average comfort.
The staff were trying to find a replacement for the bedroom TV but this was taking so long I had just given up. I'd decided to shower and settle in for the long night ahead. The cranky toddler needed to be put to bed so I began our routine. Part way through the shower routine I got a call saying they were arranging a room change. This was of utmost inconvenience as before mentioned, the toddler, also due to the amount of things that had to be moved. There's the bridal gown, bridal party dresses, shoes, flowers, bottles and bottles of Pommery, re packing of the suitcases and the list goes on. I decided not to put myself through that and just use my mobile data watching Netflix as the hotel only provides 30 minutes of free wifi.
As you can tell I'm thrilled and most definitely will not be staying at the Oaks Charlotte...
Read moreFurther to your email response about getting back here it is in detail... When we checked into Room 2710 on Friday 28th December 2018 ( we booked a total of 3 separate rooms) but 2710 is the room we found to be less than adequate compared to 2710 and 2804 which were the other rooms. Firstly there was a mission trying to locate dedicated guest carparking in the basement. Secondly, after checking in, when we entered to 27th floor the entire floor stunk like feces, it was unbelievable that two cleaners on the floor did not acknowledge there was such a smell and said it was probably one of the guest rooms where it was coming from, nonetheless it was unbreathable so we called the front desk who came up and did something about it. The smell of the floor did not clear for at least another hour after checking in. Room 2710, had damp carpet directly behind the dishwasher and it looked like the dining table was placed over it to hide it, however once we sat there with our bare feet we noticed how wet it was, the TV in the main lounge was smaller than the other two rooms booked, don't know why this is. The kitchen was not equipped with the basic necessities, we couldn't cook in this room as the oven did not have trays and racks in it , despite calling front desk the first day they didn't bring it up to us until the second day. The AC wall controller was not user friendly, no way to set the temperature to the desired coolness as it kept defaulting to it's auto settings. The lifts...
