Set your senses alive with a visit to this unassuming grocery/bakery/deli shop and be prepared to experience authentic Middle Eastern delights that will have you coming back for more! The manoushi, which is a freshly baked flatbread that comes with the option of various fillings, is absolutely delicious. We had the Zaatar special, which had tomato, feta, oregano, mozzarella, sesame, and olives, plus a Spinach and cheese pastry, which had spinach, sumac, onion, feta and mozzarella, and it was a taste sensation. We also ordered Lebanese coffee and accepted the offer of cardamom being added to it, which was a good decision. If you like a strong, thick, black coffee experience with a slight bit of grittiness, you will be sure to enjoy it here. We also bought hummus to take home, which was creamy smooth with a good consistency and the perfect balance of garlic and tahini. It was so much better than the supermarket hummus dips. This place is in a small strip of shops with a car park out front. Seating is only available outside the front of the shop next to the carpark. It is a large area under cover that is a very basic and casual setup, which I think just adds to the whole experience. The service is friendly and efficient. If you want to experience authentic Middle Eastern tastes and don't need a fancy setting, then you will be...
Read moreFirst off we love this bakery store. We still do even with the new owners as they find their feet running this business. Its aconstitutional pitstop for many. The new owners enhancements and vision looks promising. All the new stuff coming aside, please you must try to keep the original quality. That is what we come to Watany for. We need to mention the quality of the pastries has dropped. Two occasions now we have noticed the taste has changed, enough for us to mebtion here. The sajouk and cheese now only has two slices of sajouk for the whole pastry. Our young son (9) commented, where is the sajouk salami, and for the first time in the 5 Years (he begs us to get a Sajouk when near by), was disappointed with his bakery treat. The Sajouk is special as it releases the fat and spice to mix inside the pastry with the cheese, not enough and it misses this traditional point. The spinach and cheese too the quality has fallen, the fillings mixture proportions is out. Our normal spend every couple of weeks is about $50 often the same 4-5 pastries, hot to go and cold for later saving us some travel from the inner east suburbs. Also a small thing, $1 for side milk and $0.50 for cardomon is too steep for an Arabic coffee especially when asking for cold milk and it comes out steamed. We are going to wait a few weeks and come back for...
Read moreHaving seen all the great reviews here, I was keen to try the food. So I drove for 40 minutes in late afternoon traffic on Monday to pick up something for dinner. Checked the closing time online, 7 pm, no problem, I arrived at 5.30. However, I was then told by staff that the kitchen was closed, no cooking was being done after 4.30! Thinking I must have misread something I re-checked the website, but the impression is given that the menu is always available; at no point is there any mention that you can’t get cooked food after 4.30! It would have been nice to have this information available, instead of wasting 80 minutes of my time in a pointless drive. So without being able to comment on the food, I am not at all impressed with the misleading information on the website. Happy to have someone prove me wrong if I have missed something to the contrary. EDIT: I later went back during the day to actually try the food, and wasn't disappointed. It was delicious, as previous reviewers have said. So 5 stars for that, but the misleading website...
