Hummingbird Bistro Byron Bay — Restaurant in Byron Bay

OK..... So embarrassed!

We came here about a year ago, in the first week it opened. Had a really nice meal and forgot about it....

Tonight, we had the pork belly to start..... perfectly cooked and so tasty.

My wife had the prawn, chilli and garlic fettuccini.....such a common dish, you've probably eaten a hundred times.... not like this!

Pasta as light as I've ever had...anywhere - here, Italy, anywhere! Prawns perfectly cooked and the garlic, shown by the chef, who is the boss. Her(the chef)!

Perfect. Delicious. A dish of absolutely superb execution.

I don't know what else to say....

I had the special orriechete with pesto, pistachio, stracchiatele and roasted baby tomatoes.....that sounded weird. But as the eyes rolled back in the head of the co-owner/ sommelier/ maitre de/ as he explained the dish to us.....I just said, " yep, I'll have that".

A flavour and mouthfeel explosion. So different. So new. So delicious!

I couldn't wait to come home and write a review.

The first thing I noticed was that there was already 5.0 stars with 88 reviews....that's not so common...4.9, 4.8, you see a lot.

Just go.

I feel like I've wasted the last year by forgetting about...

We had a beautiful family meal at Hummingbird tonight! We brought our kids along and I would have to say everyone left feeling satisfied with every dish! The atmosphere was peaceful and inviting! The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, the owner and chef took the time to explain the menu to us and engage with kiddos! The entire experience was such a lovely night out!

We had the pleasure of trying these amazing dishes: Broccoli grilled to perfection, Pumpkin with roast beans with chilli oil.(By far the Best and freshest chilli I've ever had). Ratatouille with seasonal vegetables, Trio of mushrooms over parsnip puree, salted caramel ice cream with vegan brownies!

We are a family of vegans and we felt very well catered to! The menu was very well rounded and would cater to any diet! We saw others who ordered fish and meat dishes and everything looked lovely and would recommend to anyone!

Over all an amazing place! So kid friendly, would also make a great date night spot! The portion sizes were great and we all left happy!

We are so glad to have found Hummingbird Bistro! It's very unique to Byron from all the other local places we have tried! It's a special spot...

We are SO glad we stumbled across this little gem!! We had no idea at the time just how good it was going to be! I’m not even much of a foodie but omg!!

We were both in the mood for pasta, and it wasn’t until we were ordering that we learnt that every single item on the menu & in the cabinet is made in house. We ordered the arancini balls; ravioli and the cheesecake - every course was top quality; full of flavour and just insanely good! We haven’t eaten food like it for quite some time - and the prices are affordable!

The staff were all friendly and lovely, and the restaurant is tucked down a side street with a few other boutique restaurants with a very chill Byron ambiance that we all know and love (it’s on the street by the iconic ‘love’ seat).

We noticed this time visiting Byron Bay that a few of the boutique restaurants that have been there a long time have been replaced by chain restaurants, so stumbling across this little gem and supporting local small business owners was important to us (especially as small business owners ourselves)!

We recommend this restaurant 1000% and already can’t wait to go back next time we’re down...
