Thank you to the new management for commenting on my review. I would like to clarify a few points. We had no problem with chili being included in the dishes. It was the inordinant amount of chili in our food that rendered it inedible. We did all order our meals at the same time and did enquire as to where the fourth meal was several times over the following 45 minutes and were constantly assured that it was on its way any time soon.

Our party of four went to the Carlisle Hotel for lunch today, all with high expectations and upon arrival were happy to note the very clean and pleasant decor. Unfortunately things took a downward turn from there. The meals were all ordered at the same time and as per the spiel provided by the Hotel should have all been served together. After quite a wait two of the meals arrived, fish and chips and duck and prawn stir fry. Some of the fish was undercooked and the stir fry was far too spicy, possibly with chili. After a while the heat became overwhelming and consequently some of the meal remained uneaten. After a further twenty minutes the third meal, beef salad, arrived and it proved to be inedible, everything on the plate completely overwhelmed by chili and so the greater part of the dish was left uneaten. Forty five minutes after the first two meals were served the fourth meal arrived, roast beef, which was fine. Our complaints and feedback were passed on to the manager as we left and she advised that there was nothing she could do except say sorry and advise the cook. She also said that when we ordered we should have been advised about the inordinate amount of chili that would be served in the dishes and we definitley weren't. As a result of our very bad experience we will never eat at the Carlisle Hotel again and we will never recommend it to anyone as a dining...

I booked a 1 night with Carlisle to get away from home, and I had a wisdom tooth extraction the day before the booking. but the pain was tripled the next morning so I tried to call the hotel to request reschedule, 1st at 7am. then again at 10am. then 11am, no answer, found a mobile number in the email but it has incoming call restrictions. then I sent a email to the email in the confirmation booking, no reply then I called again at 11.30am still no answer. then I called again 1pm, no answer on the landlines. At 2pm I still had no reply to my email and found another generic email on their website. Sent an email to this one. it was 4pm and still no response. I tried calling the landlines again still no answer, the voice says select an option to transfer call to operator and it disconnected the call. Finally I tried my lucky one more time at 7.30pm and the first time round still no answer. I redialled the number straight away, and a young girl answered. I explained my situation and said don't want to cancel it but want to know if they reschedule the booking. she said no you will have to pay again because the booking they cannot find someone to replace this room. I apologised and asked if she could check with her managers. She agreed politely and said would call me back. She called me back said her managers said no, I asked her if there was any leniency given my situation, she said no, cancellation policy is cancellation policy. 48hrs notice. So that left a sour taste. I get that they have a business to run, but they did not lose out on anything, because afterwards i did a test call in to book two rooms for the night and they had that available, soooo even though they were still going to get my money on the rescheduled date, it wasnt enough. Don't expect any compassion or leniency...

My main gripe about my stay was that I was locked out of my room as I forgot my key when I used the shared restroom at midnight. I concede that this was my fault. However, unlike every other hotel I have stayed at before, there was no manner of getting help from staff to let me back in my room. Every phone number or email listed online doesn't get answered after hours. There is no staff present on the premises and there isn't even any lounge or reception areas with a couch you can try to rest at. I had to stay up until 6:30am when the first cleaner arrived and was able to help me. They told me that they would let the manager know the situation but I have not heard from anyone as of yet. I was able to get a couple hours of sleep before having to leave exhausted as it was my checkout date. Apart from this situation, the rooms and shared restrooms looked worse than the pictures on the website. The nearby train station is not currently operating so you will have to take the bus. Value for money was decent seeing as it was a private room that is close enough central perth but next time I'd rather stay at a nice hostel closer to central which would cost less.

Reply to hotel: It wouldn't have been so bad if there were a comfortable place to rest. My recommendation would be to add a couch or armchair with a foot rest anywhere you can find space. The chairs in the kitchen area did not...

I heard that the chicken parmigiana is good here so we went to have a try. It's a generous portion with a good slice of crumbed chicken schnitzel and lots of stringy cheese and a flavourful Neapolitan sauce. The chicken is not as succulent as I'd like it to be but it's not dry. Initially we also ordered an Irish beef stew but there was something wrong with the ordering system online so the chef came out to apologise and compensated us for waiting for quite a long time with 2 small sides of bhaji and chicken wings. They're both fried nicely and crispy and definitely helped with the hunger pangs. The lamb shank that was recommended by the chef as a replacement was beautifully cooked, tender and flavourful. We also enjoyed the mash potatoes and gravy although we would like the gravy to have a bit more complexity it's perfectly fine.

This pub has done well in reinventing itself in recent times and is a great place to stop by for a good quality and well priced meal and a cold ale. Wednesday steak night gets you a good quality scotch fillet with chips, salad and a wine or beer for $25. The chef takes pride in presentation and after one of our group ordered ahead but ran late, he insisted on taking away the meal already delivered and then prepared a fresh one after our late arriving colleague got there. That doesn’t happen very often these days. So if you’re in the area, stop by for a well priced and generously proportioned meal.
