Update - RE: Your response The reason you provided is completely untrue.
Firstly, there were only three tables occupied, including ours. One of us only ordered dessert, and your staff confirmed with us whether we wanted the dessert to be served after the bento. We explicitly told them no, so there was no way the ice cream could have been preserved.
Secondly, the staff informed us that the fridge wasn't working. I saw your team members holding the box of ice cream, and their expressions clearly showed concern about how soft the ice cream was.
I want to emphasise that your staff member told us twice, to our faces, that THE FRIDGE DOESN'T WORK! I didn't intend to go into details, but since you accused us of not having our facts straight, let's clarify:
When your staff member served the dessert, she said, "The ice cream is melted because..." but didn't finish and walked away. The staff member didn't come back to address our concern, even though we were clearly worried. While the team member attended to other tasks, we tasted the ice cream and found it unacceptable. We raised our concerns again, mentioning the poor quality and potential food safety issues.
Your staff member walked away once more. Then, they took a blue box of ice cream out of the freezer, opened the lid, and appeared visibly concerned. The staff member then returned to us and said, "I can give you another scoop of ice cream, but it will be the same because our fridge isn't working."
Take accountability for it. Dening doesn't change the facts.
The restaurant ambience is pleasant and tidy. However, our experience with the bento set and dessert was disappointing. The soup arrived in a tiny bowl filled only to 30% capacity, and the ice cream on the dessert had already melted. When a staff member brought the dessert to our table and mentioned that the ice cream had melted due to the staff member walking away before finishing her explanation, we were left without a complete explanation.
Expressing our concerns regarding food safety, the staff informed us that the issue stemmed from a malfunctioning fridge. Despite highlighting that food should not be served if not stored at the correct temperature, the staff dismissed our worries and merely offered to replace the ice cream with another scoop, which they admitted would likely suffer the same fate. When we requested a refund, having paid through an app during ordering, the staff initially overlooked refunding the Weekend Surcharge until prompted. Not to mention, the staff member didn't apologise about it and just left the cash with us.
This was not just a disappointing dining experience, but the worst combination of food quality and customer service we have encountered. The disregard for food safety standards is not just concerning, but alarming, raising serious doubts about the staff's knowledge and practices in handling...
Read moreIkko is an awesome Japanese restaurant that you’ve got to try! I went there at 2 PM for a little afternoon tea, and it was the perfect choice. The vibe inside is super welcoming and cozy, making it the ideal spot to relax and enjoy some great food.
Their mochi, oysters, and Matcha Dream dessert are seriously out of this world. The mochi at Ikko is amazing. It's got this perfect chewy texture and comes in a bunch of different flavors. The combo of fresh fruits, red bean paste and cream made me feel like walking in the clouds!!!
And the oysters? Wow. They're always super fresh and taste fantastic. And they were the most crispy oysters I’ve even tasted.
You can't miss the Matcha Dream dessert either. It's got this complex texture and rich taste of matcha that’s just incredible. Every bite is a delightful mix of flavors and textures that will leave you wanting more.
Having these dishes as part of an afternoon tea was such a treat. It felt like the perfect blend of traditional and modern Japanese flavors, and it really...
Read moreIkko is truly a hidden gem and my new favourite Japenese Restuarant in Canberra! Tucked away in Grazier Lane Belconnen, Ikko serves incredible authentic japanese dishes.
Typically as a vegetarian, the options at Japanese restaurants can be pretty simple, but not Ikko - there were plenty of great options!
I had the Curry Yaki Udon and Yasai Ten Don and both tasted amazing.
The Curry Yaki Udon was made with thick, chewy noodles that were in a rich tasty curry and the pumpkin espuma was very creamy and something I've never seen in Canberra.
The Yasai Ten Don came with light, crispy tempura vegetables - like sweet potato, enoki mushrooms, eggplant, and pumpkin with rice perfectly paired with side dishes like tangy pickles and a warm miso soup.
Ikko's menu didn't feel like the vegetarian dishes were just a second thought, it felt like they were intentional so whether you’re plant-based or not, I reccommend Ikko for a...
