The restaurant itself is in a quiet upstairs location with very pleasant decor. When our party of 5 were there on a Monday evening it was relatively quiet. We were seated close to a video screen with a cricket match being broadcast, possibly from India, and without being asked it was turned up quite loud by one of the staff. It was very distracting. Our orders were taken from an extensive but somewhat complicated menu. It was rather odd that on a quiet night one meal (mine) was served quite quickly and then there was a lengthy delay (well over half an hour) before any other meals were served. My meal (lamb soot I think it was called) was a dry and pretty tasteless lamb curry that was very unappetising with lots of dry rice puff and flakes that must be a feature of Nepalese food, a little pickled mango chutney and one slice of carrot and cucumber. The mushroom masala my vegetarian husband ordered was the most pleasant dish brought out and I suspect some of the other vegetarian dishes may be quite good too. I regretted not ordering the eggplant dish. 🙁The green Dahl and lamb shank were apparently quite good. Overall, we were all a little disappointed with the food and service. I think this style of Nepalese/Indian cuisine is suited to some more than others. Thank you for your response. I definitely thought I was ordering a dry lamb curry and so did other members of our group so there was obviously a misunderstanding there. The young lady did not clarify it was an entree. It was a rushed decision after being told the fish dish I had planned on ordering was not available that evening. My daughter was unaware of the planned video being shown that night when she booked and in any case we would have understood if someone had at least mentioned the importance of the game when the volume was turned up. Also, we could have been seated further away from the screen. I will be more than happy to vary my review if our next experience is a better one.

Well, I have been exploring for a Nepali restaurant in Canberra. With very much excitement we a team of 5 people visited the hungry Buddha restaurant. The restaurant name looks fancy and also the ambience inside is not bad. We were there with a very high expectation and we ordered 5 Thali with chicken, veg and Mutton curry. The first that came to our table was the mango Lassi which was okay, followed by the Jhol momo which was not that great. And the following item made our expectation end there. The Thali which was our only hope was the worst item amongst others. The rice I believe was not at all a fresh rice. It was a leftover rice that might be heated and served. The chicken and mutton curry was totally tasteless, no salt, not spicy as well, no fair salt and etc. it didn’t even taste like chicken and mutton. Apart from that, the panner curry was also not good. The price seems reasonable only had the food been tasty. Otherwise just for the show, it’s too much. We have left the table with lots of left over foods. Despite trying our best, we couldn’t even finish half of foods. The only thing we liked the presentation of how the food is served. Besides that, all the food was awful for us. Not sure if others might like it.

I’d always wanted to try The Hungry Buddha, mainly because of its catchy name. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The dĂ©cor, themed around Buddha and Nepal, felt nostalgic to me as someone from Bhutan—our cultures share many common threads, so it struck a familiar chord. The menu is extensive, offering a wide selection of Nepalese dishes. On the drinks side, they serve cocktails, beer, and spirits (with wine as BYO). I also noticed posters about upcoming events, which is a nice bonus if you’re looking to book a gathering or celebration. Now, onto the food experience. We were first served water in drinking glasses, but unfortunately, I noticed something floating in it. I couldn’t quite tell whether it was due to the water or the glasses themselves, but either way it raised a hygiene concern—definitely a red flag. Here’s how I’d rate my experience: * Atmosphere: 4.5/5 * Food: 5 * Hygiene: 2/5 * Customer Service: 3/5 Overall, The Hungry Buddha has a lot going for it in terms of ambience and menu variety, but hygiene is an area that needs urgent attention.

I had been there last month with my family (on 5th june) between 8pm to 9pm. We had ordered online before, food was really good: Expecting we gonna have same quality food at resturant as well. But what a nightmare😹. We ordered momo platter that was okey. Later on, we ordered nepali thali set for 4 people which even doesnot match the quality n taste of highway and buspark food of nepal. Even buspark resturant serve better quality food than that. Rice seems like they cooked two days ago, lentil soup was smelling. Chiken and goat curry got no taste at all. Feels like they just sold the leftover food that they made on weekends. Extremly pathetic. We even showed that food to the staff, but that lady got no answer at all. I tried to talk with manager, but staff said he was not at the restaurant or pehaps he did not have any explanation about the litter that was served by his chefs. Intresting fact is that, for two days, four people went to their jobs with upset stomach. If management of this renowned resturants read this, this review is the frustration that we four people experienced. I did not write this review to get any compensation or anything at all. This is the constructive feedback for the entire team to improve your quality and standard of food. Please be carefull about customer health. You guys already loose four customer. If this continues, your resturant only left with...

Once seated we waited 20 minutes and then had to call someone over to take a drinks order. After another 20 minutes a young lady came over and said she would be taking our food order. As soon as I started to order she stopped me and said "sorry I'm new here I'll go get someone else" another 10 minutes and someone else came to take our order of which a number of dishes weren't available. Another 20 minutes passed (so total of over 1 hour) and we still had no drinks. I went up to ask about them and they said there's been some confusion (2 beers and 2 G&T's) but they will be out shortly. At this point you could see the staff googling stuff on their phones, frantically searching for the Gin for the G&T. When another 10mins later he found it he put the Gin and ice in a cocktail shaker and then served that in a Martini glass???? The other 2 drinks were 2 beers which also took nearly an hour and a half to get. When the food eventually came it was average also but the whole experience Awful. The staff have no training and support. The so called new management walked around with ear pods in all night not helping, directing or supporting his staff. Very poor and will not go back! Very disappointing and not worth the money we spent. We were asked for feedback upon paying the bill. Gave it and there was no apology or thank you we I'll take that on board....what's the point in asking...
