The Swan & King — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

I’ve been in strip clubs with more lighting and staff who actually notice you exist. The Swan & King feels like it’s trying to be mysterious and exclusive, but really it’s just dark enough to wonder if the bar staff are playing hide-and-seek.

That said, credit where it’s due – the pizza and cocktails are genuinely the stars of the show. If the lighting doesn’t help you see the menu, trust me: order both. The cocktails are smooth enough to make you forget the wait, and the pizzas might just be the reason you stick around long enough to get service.

In short: come for the food and drinks, not the atmosphere. Unless, of course, you like squinting into the abyss and waving at staff like you’re trying to flag down a taxi...
