Food wasn't too bad. In fact, would probably rate the actual food 7/10. What was disappointing though were the staff. They were short and rude with nary a smile of welcome. They looked like they did not want to be there or at least didn't want us there. Did not make us feel welcome at all. Don't seem to know how to offer a friendly smile ... or any smile at all. When my daughter asked for some water, the waitress treated her rudely and then served the water by heavily plonking the carafe on the table and then just waking away. No I don't expect you to pour water, but if you didn't want us there, you could have to us before we ordered and we would have gladly spent our money elsewhere. When we spend money on eating out, a big part of the enjoyment comes from the atmosphere and not just the food. We like to enjoy the food and not be made to feel as if we were imposing on your time. Trust me, there are a lot of places to spend our money in Canberra and we would definitely prefer somewhere welcoming. All in all, although the food was passable, it was not enjoyable in the least bit. I used to recommend this place to people looking for vegetarian options, but would not recommend again. In fact, I would go so far as to steer others away from a place where the staff don't want you there and make you feel as though you are an imposition. Five thumbs down for this...
Read moreThese days I am quite interested in vegetarian food, I tried Bodhi then I think I should find a similar one in Canberra. There it comes AU Lac. The reviews are quite positive about it and I was attracted by the photo of the “beef” curry so I went there with my hubby. I ordered the curry and paw paw salad, he ordered a laksa. Since I don’t want to have too many carbs in the evening, I refused to have rice, which I quite regret about. Curry without rice is not curry at all, don’t you agree? And by the way the curry is quite salty without rice, but I like the texture of the “beef” and the chickpeas in the curry are not from cans I think, they are chewy and tasty. My hubby is not a big fan of “fake meat”, but he love the laksa so much, he even finished the soup. There is a large variety of soy protein with different shapes and texture in that bowl I assume, they look nice and taste good. One think I am concerning about is that there will be a lot of coconut milk or cream in that bowl, which means there are lots of fat. Anyway I haven’t tried to stop my husband from finishing the soup, happiness is also very important. The salad is also great, it is light but full of flavour and very very fresh. I almost forgo we also ordered spring rolls, taste is average. I really enjoy the veggies there, look forward to coming back to Canberra again to this...
Read moreStumbled upon this place while shopping and this is now my favourite restaurant ever and if I could give it 6 stars I would! The staff are fantastic, the prices are very reasonable and the food is absolutely incredible!! I have now been here twice and as someone who visits Canberra quite frequently, I plan to go every time I'm there! My friend suggested on Tuesday that we go on Sunday while in Canberra and it was the longest week ever waiting for their amazing food! It was awesome as a vegan to go somewhere that I could eat literally anything on the menu :) So far we have tried the mushroom fritters (twice, yum!), Banana split, dim sims, sizzling pepper beef and the massaman beef (Which was probably the best massaman I've ever had, and despite planning to try something different every time, we got again). The Lychee iced tea and cold Vietnamese coffee were...
