okay so, i was in the city and wanted to get a club sandwich and looked up places to get a club sandwich. obviously dome popped up but i didn't want to go there because i really wanted to go to a smaller cafe with a nicer vibe. so i decided to go to whatever else google suggested. google suggested that i go to toast cafe in east perth, so i got directions and went here. i double checked the menu online to see if there was a club sandwich and sure enough there was. so once i went there i was surprised to not see club sandwich on the menu. it was a bit sad as i really wanted that but its okay. i can't blame the cafe for not having something on the menu anymore. it should be googles fault. however i was very upset by the service and quality of the food i actually did get. i got a ham cheese tomato pastrami i think. it tasted not that great. there wasn't much special to it and it was very dry. i also think the ham isn't good quality for the price of the sandwich. the bread was probably the only good part. i'm not sure if they make the bread themselves but it was good. i feel like the sandwich was just very plain and while eating it i felt the need to add salt and pepper to it to add a bit of taste. besides the food i felt that the service was quite lacking. maybe it's because i specifically wanted to go to a small cafe instead of one of those big chains i expected a bit more of a personal service. i came in, no one really greets you, you just kinda sit yourself down wherever you think there's space. you also get no menus. you have to find one, but that's fine i guess because you can order online from the qr code.
the problem for me is i sat myself down, ordered from a qr code and had no service from anyone. no one said anything and when i got my food it was only placed in front of me and the worker left. i feel like this could be a personal preference of mine but i quite like human interaction at restaurants. that's why i go out to one.
maybe a more introverted person would prefer this so i don't think it's quite 1 star deserving because of that but the food and the service just let me down.
i felt very disappointed and sad. i was quiet the drive home.
one thing i must applaud this restaurant for is the location. i love this side of east perth. such a...
Read moreSuper disappointing. Called in with my niece while on a nice walk around the cove for a quick takeaway of their homemade apple soda and a honey ice tea. Both fav's of mine. Served by a friendly young fella who was obviously learning the till and order system. Thats ok, we all gotta start somewhere. But it did take about 6 minutes, and had to repeat the order 3 times. Then left waiting for 10 minutes while staff walked around seemingly not doing anything until my niece and I noticed a huge cockroach crawling over the counter. I have to say, the place is looking tatty, and all the corners and nooks where dust and grime has collected. Asked about the status of my order, and three different staff members each said the other was doing it. It was NOT at all busy in the cafe. A full twenty minutes of waiting and I asked a bit more firmly, and the manager started the order, but then left the premises without explanation. I found out later she had gone to get ice. The staff still there seemed surprised that I was a bit annoyed. We ended up asking for our money back after 25 minutes had passed, and left with a refund, but the fact I had to ask so many questions rather than the manager simply saying to me that she had to get ice, or tell her staff what was up, was so unneccesary. It's the latest in a series of poor experiences at this place and its so disappointing as it used to be so good. What's more, the unfinished order of our cold drinks without ice were not even correct anyhow. They had begun to make a strawberry soda instead of an apple soda. I live local and want to patronise local businesses, but Toast, the nearby Partisan, and Kinky Lizard are all the same when it comes to less than impressive service, staff who are clearly only working "coz its a job", passionless, unable to communicate with each other, much less the customer, particularly when all these places are charging way more than what's deserved. Get your act...
Read moreThis place is by the waterfront and serves delicious breakfasts, so it's a fantastic spot for weekend brunch. I had a ricotta crepe with honey and almonds on top, quite delicious, along with a chocolate milkshake (which was giant). My friends ordered various things like the Big Breakfast (the usual bacon, eggs etc) and they were happy too. A bit like The Royal next door, this place has way more customers than what they seem to be able to comfortably deal with. Although at the same time, it WAS Mother's Day when we went. So when we ordered, we were told it would be a 20min wait. My meal came out first, with my crepe, along with my friend's frittata sitting amongst the drizzled honey on the same plate. There was a bit of confusion as to whether the plate was meant to be mine, although it got sorted out quickly. Overall, service was friendly, food was good, nothing too bad even though it was...
