I swung by on a rainy Wednesday night upon recommendation from a local friend

It’s a decent place — it’s quaint, quiet spot with parking, local beers on tap, and I like their concept of guest beers on tap.

Food — also good, nice warm olives and toasted bread with honey drizzle. Drinks — they make their own liqueurs a la Campari which looks really good!

Service — oh dear lord! There were 3 people, two of which were so lovely until one of the unfriendliness bar person — someone mentioned “wench” below — came out to play. The whole vibe shifted.

I’m visiting from interstate and have been trying a few local beers and ginger beers and I was asking about the two beers and how they compared, to which she responded — rudely “every drink is different — d’oh! — you just have to try it yourself” referring to the unopened can. She had a sour face with us all evening, and we didn’t try the other drinks.

Seating: she seems annoyed that we’re seated where she makes cocktails (see below— those ice glasses aren’t our drinks). She also kept pushing our food, as we were eating’. We would have been fine to move if asked. Or simply, reserve this area.

This attitude is a real shame in hospitality and wouldn’t return. The others were...

I think I've found my new favourite place in the world. A place so incredibly cool and everyone we met there was really welcoming. The independent guest beers on tap are carefully selected and the ones we tried were amazing, the cocktails are made with a sense of flair and attention to detail that was a real treat, in addition to the wine list there's a handful of specially selected wines to try which was fun to find something different and new and the food was all incredible, even the chips had a flourish. There's a wonderful feel to the place and a community spirit to host a local authors book launch on our first night there and the following night we went back as a local brewer brought in a selection of his latest beers to taste. There's real attention to all the little things like the mini forest and cool tunes in the bathrooms 🤣 The only down side was that we were only in Freo for a couple of nights and so never had the chance to sample the Sunday jazz, but it gives us a great reason to...

Visited Strange Company last Saturday night. An atmospheric little bar with nice decor and a large variety of drinks. They have a large range of cocktails available that are interesting combinations but very tasty. I tried View over Water (interesting taste combination but it grew on me in the end, beer and citrus with white chocolate/vanilla) and Chronic Sunshine (fresh lemony goodness).

Three things to know:

  1. The walk down from the main area is very dark and we were unsure if we were going the right way so push on until you get there.
  2. The outside area closed at 10pm which was disappointing as it was a really nice night and everyone had to cram inside and they shut the doors (noise control I suppose).
  3. Each time we purchased drinks, there seemed to be a surcharge of some sort that I wasn't notified of - every drink we purchased was a full number on the menu but each transaction seemed to have a .42 or .58 or...

Weekday visitor - doesn’t get any better! The owner Greg provides a personal and personable service and is almost always genuine and sincere. The old owner of the much loved and sorely missed X-Ray cafe near the Essex cinema. Another weekday victim and of the Fremantle residential black hole. The food is impeccable and the beer is widely selected and well chosen. Attention to detail here is amazing and I especially like the proud staff, who provide not only gold graces but integrity and sincerity. I have been here many times. I am sure if they could support the local music a little more, we would also see it. Value is equal to what you get. A beautiful quiet street away from the regular tourist crowd and the place instills a feeling of tranquility and calm; even when it’s busy. Must see local for a drink and tapas!!! Don’t miss this place.

Absolutely perfect. Venue - spotless & comfy. It was a cold, wet, winter day and yet both inside and outside were warm and welcoming. Staff - friendly, knowledgeable, approachable, accommodating, and welcoming. Food - delicious & exactly as described. Prices - on point for Fremantle. Drinks - delicious and a great range. Atmosphere - amazing. Especially when the live musicians started and we got to enjoy their "jazz". 100% will be back.
