First off, do not go to Sandrinos if you are a wheelchair user. We had dinner reservations and a member of our party used a wheelchair, and we were told there was no ramp or other access to the inside. We were forced to eat outside in the winter because the restaurant is not compliant with disability laws. We were lucky that it wasn't raining, but it was quite chilly.
Two of us went inside to order. I saw they had spirits and asked for an old fashioned, which they said they would not make. I asked next for a dark and stormy, a very common drink here. They said no again. Only the handful of cocktails listed on the menu are available. We ended up ordering a ginger beer and a rum shot and mixing our own drink.
I ordered the garlic prawns, but as they come with just garlic bread, I requested a side of spaghetti. They said they don't have sides of pasta. That seemed odd for an Italian place. I said fine, no problem, how about a child's order of pasta with no sauce? They again refused because only children under 12 may order from the kid's menu. Giving up, I just ordered the Bolognese. I was baffled - they would have made significantly more money from me if I'd been able to add a side of pasta to the prawns.
I ordered my food after my sister in law ordered hers, but mine came out first. In fact, my partner and I got our food a full 20 minutes before the rest of our party. My brother in law eventually went to check on the food and was told it had been delayed by a larger party's order. The problem was, that larger party ordered after we did, so it made no sense that they would delay us. Plus they didn't delay MY order, which was after my sister in law's. It truly seemed like they just forgot about half our table's order. My brother in law was famished by the time his pizza came.
Our waitress was excellent. She tried to help and apologised a lot for the problems. She said that the owner would get mad at her if she accommodated our request for a side of pasta, which made me think the owner is a large part of the problem. Whatever the reason, we had a truly awful time at Sandrinos. The lack of compliance with disability laws is probably the most egregious issue, and I hope they get investigated and forced to update their facility. Assuming you're not a wheelchair user, skip Sandrinos on the grounds that the food was very late and very mid. This is Freo - there are many better...
Read moreI've been to many other Italian restaurants before and I've always loved it, but this one was a big disappointment for me. The restaurant was ridiculously noisy, most of it coming from their kitchen which is awfully located in front rather than back. The level of noise drove me crazy during our 30-40 minutes time there, but this wasn't the worst part of our experience. The worst part was when we were ordering food. I was going to order an item from kids menu for myself because I wasn't really hungry and I knew that I'm not going to finish my meal if I order anything else, but surprisingly the waitress told me that they can't take an order from kids menu for adults unless it's for medical reasons!!!! This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life, they don't even have right to ask their customers which item is for who, the only thing they have to do is to provide their customers with their ordered food, as long as it's from their menu, no matter what. I can't comment on their food quality because I didn't order anything for myself and preferred to go to the next door restaurant where they don't tell me what I can and what I can't order. I'm not going to this restaurant anymore, but remember to have your medical certificates with you if you have same feeling as me. And I also found out that you can't even post a comment on their Facebook page! Obviously they don't approve any posts which they don't like to be published. these people don't care at all...
Read moreWe came back 15 years later & still as good! Charming, delicious food & great service. Having visited the beautiful town of Fremantle a few times over the years, we were absolutely made up to return some 15 years later to see that the charming Sandrinos was still there & going stronger than ever! We were greeted by the most lovely hostess Chantelle, from start to finish she made us feel welcome and took such good care of us. Big shout out & thanks to Chantelle, you’re a credit and an asset to the team at Sandrinos. All of the dishes here are cooked with love passion and packed full of flavour from the wood fired ovens. However, a particular favourite & absolute standout dish on the menu for me is their chili mussels. I had them on my first visit 15 years ago, and they were a dish that had always stuck in my mind because they were just so incredible. A mountain of big juicy mussels served in the most delicious tomato chilli sauce you can ever imagine! If ever you could bottle a flavour to make a memory, this would be it for me! So to return some 15 years later and for it to taste exactly the same was just mind blowing. Really nostalgic & a great trip down memory lane! We also had the lamb cutlets which were cooked to perfection, full of smoky flavour from the wood fired oven & the veal Parmigiana, which was so tender and a generous portion too. Once again a meal to remember, I hope to return sooner than 15 years this time to enjoy those incredible chili...
