We had what is most likely the most awful dining experience we've had in Perth to date, and the fact that we were there to celebrate Father's Day made it even worse. I made this booking as a special treat for my family, to celebrate Father's day. We had a reservation for 7.30, arrived close to 7.40, ordered everything before 8pm and by 9.30pm half our food did not arrive. This delay was made worse by how we were made to enjoy the dishes that did arrive. Bread and butter arrived fairly quickly, within 15-20 minutes. The first appetiser, a single plate, arrived 15 minutes after the bread, around 8.30. Then, only just after 9pm did we get another plate, chicken. Again, a single plate. That is it, the four of us had a bit of chicken (one strip each?) and bread, there was nothing else to enjoy it with. Around 9.20pm we got a plate of carrots. Again, the four of us ate 1-2 baby carrots each...with bread. Carrots with bread, as we had nothing else. At 9.30pm we got up to leave as it was getting ridiculous and too late for our 10year old daughter and 82 year old mother in law. Besides, the experience had been so awful to that point, that we did not want to wait anymore. At that rate, we figured we would still be there at 10.30pm waiting for your chefs to grow the potatoes. We expressed our frustration a couple of times to the wait staff to be told each time that the food will arrive 'shortly' and that 'unfortunately we were the last docket of the day'. Yes, the place was fully booked and busy, but that should not be used as an excuse. You're not a new establishment finding your feet, you have been around for many years and should know well by now how to manage your kitchen when it is fully booked, especially for a special occasion like Father's Day. If you can't manage to serve your patrons in a timely manner at full capacity, don't take bookings to fill capacity. If you can't manage to serve your patrons in a timely manner for a 7.30pm reservation, maybe don't take a 7.30pm...
Read moreWent to Bread in Common last night with a few friends and my partner. We’ve been there before and they’ve been pretty accomodating dietary wise (we’re both vegan) but last night was a weird experience that left much to be desired. Told our waitress that we needed vegan options, were supplied with a dietary menu, ordered bread, hazelnut dukkah, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and roast potatoes, making sure she knew we needed them all vegan. The bread came out with butter on the tray (touching the bread, but luckily we were with our friends so they just had those pieces), and then we were approached twice more by our waitress trying to get us to change our mind about the dishes we ordered. Initially she asked if we’re okay with honey (which we aren’t), and she said that was fine and she’d let the chef know, but then pressured us into changing the asparagus to the beet tartare. Then she came back again saying normally vegans are okay with honey, and since we weren’t would we consider getting a sweet potato dish instead of the brussel sprouts dish. This seemed ridiculous and we wanted the brussel sprouts so we stuck with it. Then they came out and were still so hard it was like eating a raw cabbage, we ended up sending them back.
Just gotta ask, what’s the damn point of supplying someone with a dietary menu if you’re just gonna try and change their minds on what they’ve ordered. A couple of weeks ago we were going to go to Bread in Common but instead got recommended to go to Ode to Sirens, their sister restaurant (it was late, we had a large party of people, and the manager of B in C was concerned they wouldn’t have enough food to feed us), and it was honestly like night and day compared to this experience. Food was immaculate there, waitress was super attentive and knowledgeable.
We used to like this place, vibe has always been cool, but I don’t think we’ll be...
Read moreAmazing food, awful service. We ordered a serve of bread, I told the waitress there was 5 of us, and we were given 8 pieces of bread. When i asked why, she said “i always give you one less serve incase its too much”. That is great, but we weren’t told this and if we were, then we would have asked for five serves, as would have been indicated by me saying there are FIVE of us. Then we asked for another serve of bread, to which the waitress brought out another four pieces. When i asked about it she said she didn’t realise we wanted 5 pieces of bread (even though we had just had this discussion). They then forgot to bring out the butter, which was pointless once we had already eaten the bread.
We ordered food and then another round of drinks, and while one member of our group was reading the menu, the same waitress stood at the end of the table clicking her pen impatiently, clearly uninterested and annoyed that someone would take the time to read the menu.
We were then met with the next delightful staff member if the night, who brought us 4 of 5 of our ordered drinks. When we asked where the beer in question was, she said “it’s not on the docket” and walked off, as if it were out fault that she either didn’t read the docket, or the other waitress didn’t put it on. When we eventually got the beer, she walked up to the table, slammed it down and said nothing, walked off in a huff and continued to glare at us from across the restaurant every time she walked past. From where we were sitting, we could see her throwing around wine bottle caps and doing everything with the biggest attitude possible.
The food was good, we have no problem paying good money for good food, but as others have said - avoid the squid. You get a measly amount and for $35 it is a ridiculous price point. Very overdone...
