Not too bad but wouldn't suggest it for a nice ladies luncheon. I had been asked to like their Facebook page so I did and had been watching their posts and they looked good, so talked a friend in to trying it with me last week. Was told they did $10 lunches and I wondered what you would get for $10. They have a board up but I didn't really want to go with anything on the board although they had a good selection on there, went with their lunchtime specials out of the menu which was a rump steak and chips with red wine jus and it came with a nice coleslaw. Steak was cooked nicely and it was all tasty for $13.99 I think, my friend had the Chicken and Aioli wraps and chips for $10, she said the chicken was nice and fresh but it could have done with a bit more aioli in the wrap. She was sold with the fact that there was HP sauce available on the condiments table! Entry to the kitchen showed the door panels really dirty so this was not a good look when going up and ordering. The worst bit was that we had to move 3 times just to get away from the smoke for the central bar which apparently you are allowed to smoke at, not sure how they get away with that in the middle of where people eat! So for what you pay for pretty good but definitely not somewhere for a nice older "girls lunch", but not bad venue for a group of friends for a drink and some quick food, looks like a great place when there is a band on. Was worth a go and not bad for the price, I still enjoyed my meal, just felt a little...
Read moreBistro staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good, plentiful and low-price. The outdoor bar also had excellent service. If the question was to rate the Bistro only, it would be 5 Star.
Having been asked why 1 star I thought it unfair to not give a reason.
Re the main bar...
About 6pm my wife and I entered the main bar, through a door ( on Campbell St?) that opened as we approached. We were looking for the Bistro. Despite us being far from 'straight-laced', or 'wowsers', the situation in the bar was unexpected, embarassing and unpleasant to us. Confused, and hungry, we headed through, still looking for the Bistro...
I do not wish to list more details. Management should be able to recognise them.
NB, this is NOT a criticism of the staff, I see it as a management issue, about respect for the men and women who visit and work in this place, that neither be exploited to gain...
Read moreWent and ordered the meals, ordered some soft drinks, meal came on time, was absolutely fantastic. Went to the bar, asked for a mixed drink, I wanted a Black Russian consisting of Vodka, Kahlua and Coke. I was politely told, sorry, we don't serve mixed drinks and turned me away. So we left and went to the Freemasons Hotel who actully serve drinks in their pub, old fashioned practise I know, but when you're thirsty! I now no longer patronise the place due to to this weird policy, a bar that doesn't serve mixed drinks? So last week I took four people to the Freemasons Hotel for drinks and a meal and this week we dined at The Provincial and the food, drinks and service was so great there that we are going there again next week. How to ruin a pub in one easy lesson, cut off 20% of your drink businses by refusing to mix drinks and turning patrons away, did you learn this in business school?...
