My recent visit to Afghani Charcoal Kebab House left much to be desired. The hygiene was a concern, particularly the state of the restroom, which was quite dirty.
We ordered platters with lamb, chicken, and Qubuli. Surprisingly, all three dishes had the same rice base, and the Qubuli only had added grated carrots and raisins. The taste was below average and made us feel sick and bloated, leaving plates unfinished.
The restaurant's ambiance didn't help - old and untidy furniture, and the cutlery was of poor quality, with a cracked plate. The customer service lacked courtesy and smiles, making the overall experience quite disappointing.
Considering the prime location in Gold Coast, there's a real opportunity for the owners to improve the restaurant's standards and offer a better dining experience. Unfortunately, the current state doesn't do justice to the authentic Afghan cuisine they claim to serve.
In conclusion, my experience at Afghani Charcoal Kebab House was not up to par, and I won't be returning. I hope the management takes this feedback positively and works towards enhancing the quality and standards of their...
Read more2 Skewers Lamb Diced ($20): Prices for 3 and 4 skewers are $25 and $28 and it’s served with rice or pita bread. The lamb tastes succulent and slightly firmer than the Persian ones. The type of rice used is also yellowish but Persian usually serve 50% yellow and 50% white rice.
In addition, Dogh, soft drinks, tea (cup) cost $3.5, and juices, iced tea $4.5. There are wide options for soft drinks and I tried their local sparkling lemonade called Yemonade, which turned out different from Solo and less sour.
I am a lover of Koobideh (minced lamb skewer with rice) from Persian cuisine, so I come here to check out Afghan version and turns out they are similar but slightly different. The prices here are way cheaper than Persian in same portion sizes (even more rice here than Persian). The staff is also nice and the restaurant is located between Surfers Paradise and Cavill Avenue stations.
Overall, everything is pretty good except for the baby uttering out loud for an hour from the other table, it’s a...
Read moreI was served with burnt kebabs and basically plain rinsed rice . When I asked for owner he didn't even bother to see us and the young Indian waitress was trying to convince us the food is well cooked and not burnt and if we want to add flavor or salt to the rice we can add it our selves. As if it's the first time I'm having rice in my life or afghan/persian food.
