We went to el Camino last night for a nice and fun dinner with my partner, and we had the worst experience in a restaurant ever. My partner is vegan and I’m vegetarian, we ordered the veggie option nachos and veggie option tacos at the bar, to ask if the veggie option of tacos can be made vegan option instead, to what the person in the counter said not problem at all. When we received our food, we realised that we forgot to add the guacamole, so we ask the lady if we can order through her the guacamole and also a drink (to not have to be in our phones as we were really hungry and the food was already on the table. To what she said “yes, no problem, can you go to the bar to order please?” So there was not food service at all. When we look at our food, the vegan option tacos that we ordered came just with the “meat” (that was mushrooms) and nothing else, to what we were really disappointed. As we specially asked for a vegan option. I asked very respectfully to the lady that seated us if we were able to have anything instead of the cheese that this originally comes with, literally anything, like avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, corn, or any sauce, etc. The lady completely understood so she took it back to the kitchen to re-make it and bring another one with something else. We were waiting, when another lady came (a manager) and explain to us that the food is gonna take a little while as they will remake it for us, to what we said not problem at all. When the food arrived, the food was completely cold, the 3 tortillas were taken straight from the fridge and put it on our plate. I feel so embarrassed and upset that I have to bother somebody again to fix our dish, for what we were waiting already twice the time it usually does. I asked the same lady that came to talk to us, to come again, and told her that the tortillas were very cold, I asked her if she could please touch the tacos. The lady touched the tortillas and completely agreed with us, as they were literally taken from the fridge. The lady took the plate for the 3rd time to the kitchen, to fix it once again. And then when someone came back with our food, they didn’t even say sorry guys, or try to explain something, anything. We were still hungry when we finished our food, but we were so upset of the bad experience with the food, plus the unfriendly staff, that we had to just walked out and go to another restaurant to finish our dinner. My question is, is there any head chef in this place? How not body is checking if the food is being made properly? Or if someone already complain about something as they not having a good experience, how is the head chef not checking that the second time goes perfectly? or is just that they do not care and laugh about it?. Food 0/10 Customer service 0/10 Definitely not coming back.

When you see this happening in a restaurant, you can be assured that the owners are running responsible business and that they truly care. Not just the owners, but staff too. Right next to our table, service staff guided a family of four, who stayed at the table for 5 minutes and after receiving a phone call decided to leave. Once patrons left, even though they never used any cutlery, plates or glasses, staff immediately changed the entire set. Staff is so vigilant that after patrons leave, it takes them no longer than 3 minutes to clean up and sanitise everything for the next cover. Congratulation and a huge kudos to the staff of El Camino. Food is coming out at the slow rate but once you get it…yummy yummy in your mouth and tummy. Pricey yes it is but it’s delicious and definitely worth visiting the place. The only thing is the music…too loud.

We stopped by here as most places were closing by the time we arrived in the Gold Coast. I can imagine this place is busy and popular during the day / hot weather with the windows all pulled back. It’s also quite the party place with 2L margarita towers, waiters bringing round tequila shots and big Mexican style hats for all diners. On a wet rainy Wednesday night, for two 50-somethings wanting an evening meal it was perfectly good food but probably we were not peak target audience! Having said that - my veggie chilli nachos were generous and tasty and so I can’t fault that side. I’d go again, no issues with the place - it just is what it is!

El Camino Cantina is a standout in the bustling Mexican Restaurant scene in Surfers Paradise. Located on the corner of Cavill Avenue and the Esplanade within the newly revamped Paradise Centre. Fabulous Spacious Restaurant. Vibrantly decorated with lots to look at. Also has amazing views of Surfers Paradise Beach. Plenty of seating options, with something to suit virtually everyone. Good menu options, which includes a large drinks selection. Had the Pulled Pork and Pineapple Fajita. Tasted Amazing and the Presentation was Excellent. Outstanding Service from the lovely wait staff. Not the cheapest. But, certainly worth the money.

This place feels like a fast food place but a little fancier. Greeted by security where we had to show ID. Why? If you go as a couple you have sit at a bar on high stools, which might be ok if you can stand it long enough.Tables are only for groups. Order by QR code. Service was prompt. Very average food not reflective of menue. We had nachos, not much meat. Margaritas tastes ok but like premade. Larger than normal glass though. Very loud music. Depends what you are looking for but for me it was disappointing and so wouldn't recommend as the venue style is not my style of dining. Crowded and wide ages from children to mature adult.
