Read moreDined here for lunch previously and had a great experience.
Went to dine here on a Sunday evening with my partner (both of us aged in our mid 40's), were allowed in and allowed to order a drink before then being approached by a Security Guard and told that we needed to leave immediately due to my partner having a neck tattoo.
The wording on the Burleigh Pavilion web site is ambiguous and needs to be rewritten when it comes to the entry policy on tattoos.
Could have saved ourselves the trip from our place of accommodation to Burleigh had we of known that we would not be allowed in.
What is worse is that we walked in, straight past 4 people (all presumably working there) but were later accosted by security once inside and asked to leave.
This was a humiliating and embarrassing experience which could have been avoided had the wording on the website been more clear. We checked the web site prior to entry. We did not want to cause a scene or make a fuss. We just wanted to have a nice dinner out. My partner did not waste time making a dinner reservation and trying to dine at this venue under the guise of being 'sneaky'. There are plenty of other places to dine at. Staff were professional under the circumstances but it felt extremely intimidating. There was no room to question the policy or make any sort of protest or lodge a grievance as we were made to feel like things would get very heavy, very quickly if we "did not comply".
As others have said in other reviews, DO NOT come to this venue if you have neck tattoos.
They say they can't discriminate and so they refuse entry to anyone with a neck tattoo but the website uses wording like 'may be intimidating'. This gave us the impression that it was up to the discretion of Management and Security upon entry but clearly this is not the case.
They apparently have a blanket policy on neck tattoos. We have no problem with this. What we do have a problem with is the web site lets the business down by not being more clear about the entry policy to this venue.
Fix your web site wording and save your staff the grief of 'kicking people out' and 'refusing people entry'. I'm sure they don't particularly enjoy the conflict that situations like this can cause.
Really wish we didn't have to start a special celebratory evening off on this negative note.
The venue said that the rule is there to "keep the bikies out". I would urge you to look at current outlaw gang practices for 2024. It is because of these exact rules like what you impose that "bikies" don't get tattoos these days. You think you are keeping bikies out? Think again. Speak to a Criminologist. Educate yourselves. It is 2024 afterall! I think you will find that your current practices are exclusionary, prejudiced and outdated. You need to better understand what an outlaw gang member / bikie / criminal looks like these days. It is NOT the antiquated idea you have formed in your...
Read moreOur experience at The Tropic and in Burleigh Pavilion) was nothing short of appalling — from the moment we arrived until we were rushed out the door.
Prior to the night multiple attempts of communication to the venue had taken place in regards to dietary restrictions and the communication back from the venue was next to none.
To start, our table wasn’t ready at our booking time. We were told to wait an additional 20 minutes with no apology or explanation. When finally seated, things went downhill fast.
Our waitress was incredibly rude and abrupt from the beginning. She immediately told the person who made the booking that all guests with dietary requirements had to sit together because "that’s where their food would be placed" — no discussion, no discretion, just a blunt demand. She then loudly called out in front of the entire group asking who had dietary restrictions, making multiple guests feel uncomfortable and exposed. When this was brought to her attention, she simply responded, “I wasn’t being rude,” without a hint of apology or self-awareness.
We were never asked if we wanted tap water — they just brought bottled water, unrequested, to charge extra.
Throughout the meal, drinks were cleared before people had finished them. No one came to ask if we wanted more drinks. We were clearly being rushed — plates were taken while guests were still eating, and the waitress began wiping down the table while people were mid-meal. She also stood nearby, staring uncomfortably at anyone who called out her behaviour. By 7:10pm, we were told we had to leave — despite being rushed the entire time and never once given the chance to enjoy the evening.
As if that wasn’t enough, we witnessed a waiter scooping out "yucky bits" from a used bowl of salt to reuse it for the next setting. Completely unhygienic and stomach-turning.
Then came the bill — which was over $1,000. We added extra money just to be safe, yet they took the cash away from the table to “count it” and returned asking for more, despite there being enough. It felt shady and unprofessional — especially for a group that had already been treated poorly from the start.
Then went over to the pavilion where we had a few drinks and entered the bathroom soon after leaving the bathroom we were kicked out for no reason- but being told I was drunk , when I was in fact sober.
Honestly disgusting
This place is all about the view and the hype, with absolutely no substance to back it up. Hospitality is non-existent, service is condescending, and cleanliness is questionable at best. Don’t waste your time or money — there are far better venues on the Gold Coast that know how to treat...
