Jimmy Wah's was recommended to by at least 3 people, and I knew I had to try it out. It was hard to pick out of all the awesome restaurants along this strip, but Jimmy Wah's was the winner of the lot. The vibe of the place was simple but still had an air of authenticity to it. I liked the simple decor and the design of the menus too - any Vietnamese place that features a street-food Granny gets a tick in my book. Here's a lowdown of everything we ordered and EVERYTHING was incredible: - Tempura Barramundi & Betel Leaf: Insane! Such a simple couple of bites but the flavours were fantastic and teleported me back home. The textures were fantastic and I wanted to eat 14 more. - Tempura Oyster & Black Tobiko: The waiter did suggest I ordering one more when I decided to order a single one and after eating it I would have to agree. I could have eaten so many more of these delicate bites. It was so delicious! - Soft Shell Crab Banh Mi: Two of my favourite things combined, I couldn't say no to this dish. I am a sucker for Softshell Crab and Banh Mi at a relatively nice restaurant is always a fun twist. - Grilled Eggplant: A classic. The flavours were perfect and the textures and sauces were amazing. A fantastic vegetarian dish! - Caramelised Pork: Ridiculous, absurd. Flavours were insane and the crispiness of the pork whilst still being as tender as it was blew me away. This dish was perfect. - Coconut Pandan & Mango Sorbet: Light, delicious and refreshing. - Fried Bao, Peanut Ice Cream & Salted Caramel: Unreal. Arguably the best dessert I've had in a while. Everything about this dessert was a winner. The food was far beyond my expectations and I loved the fusion of traditional Vietnamese ingredients with other cultures and the fusion of it all; especially with the cocktails too. I cannot recommend this place enough and I cannot wait to go back there!

Omg. I can’t believe it has taken us 3 years to finally discover to this place. Being Vietnamese I was going to be critical of this place but overall I’m impressed. First off, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, or in this case the Vietnamese Espresso Martini. Well made, not too sweet or overpowering. Loved it. Baos. Personally I think open Baos are overrated but these we very well made with the marinated pork rib filling and the sauces to balance the taste. Very modern and very well done. Vietnamese Pancake or Banh xeo. Traditionally, this is one of my favourite dishes. If I go to a Vietnamese restaurant and they have it on their menu, I would order it as an entree. I’ve been taught to make these from traditional family recipes and from high end cooking schools in Ho Chi Minh city so I was expecting a lot out of this dish and was pleasantly presented with a modern twist to a very traditional meal. Herbs and filling is what you would expect but the pancake itself was thick and hard compared to what I was use to but it made for a far more interesting texture to it. The sauce did soften it up but we at it as a dipping sauce rather than drenching it. The dessert was also perfect. The green mango and ice cream was a perfect balance between the sweet and sour while the hardened dried ginger contrasted with the cold soft ice cream. It’s a perfect balance between opposing flavours and textures. Something that is common in a lot of well made Vietnamese dishes. I’d highly recommend Jimmy Wah’s although I have a feeling my parents wouldn’t like the modern twist to all their traditional dishes. We spent approximately $130 between two of us sharing 4 dishes and cocktails.

I was wandering around on my own as they have very restrictive & quite honestly very discriminatory rules at eateries & bars when it comes to tattoos that come onto your neck as I have & on this occasion I'm stoked they did. My friends were already at lunch so instead of asking them all to stop what they were doing I wandered around Burleigh Heads & stumbled across Jimmy Wahs Vietnamese Restaurant. Wow! Every dish was outstanding as was the service from all staff. I over ordered but had to have their monster version of a Vietnamese classic Bánh xèo. So glad I did, I only managed to eat half of it but the pancake was ridiculously crispy the pork filling perfectly seasoned, the prawns were expertly cooked, so tender and delicate. (such a welcome change from the usual chewy overcooked ones) the upside it'll be this mornings breakfast. I've started from the end of the meal as it was the highlight but the local oysters done two ways tempura with caviar & au naturel were amazing, Crispy chicken & pork nems with a lemongrass dipping sauce, Wok tossed squid & ong choy so tender in an amazing broth, & of course the Bán xéo. Cocktails were epic I had two of the Saigon Dragon an amazing concoction of lychee & dragonfruit ice-cream, soda & liqueur. If you're on the GC make a trip to Jimmy Wahs you won't be disappointed. ps. My spend was high due to the tequilas & cocktails I consumed 😁

3 YEARS AGO I MADE A REVIEW FOR THIS RESTAURANT AND GAVE IT TWO STARS AND DIDN'T DINE TEHRE AGAIN UNTIL LAST WEEK. THE MENU HAVE DEFINITELY CHANGED AND THE SERVICE HAS TREMENDOUSLY IMPROVED. I HAVE ATTACHED THE PHOTOS OF WHAT WE'VE ORDERED AND I AM NOW GIVING THIS RESTAU 5 STARS FOR INNOVATING THEIR MENU.******************************************* For someone who's been in Vietnam for a proper food tour this place is a big DISAPPOINTMENT. The vietnamese pancakes is huge in size however zero in taste. Yes they serve it crispy in the outside but very bland when you eat it and that bean sprouts?? Even with the dipping sauce it still doesn't make it right. The beef in betel leaf is alright but I prefer how the vietnamese cook it wrapped in betel leaf and grilled in between lemongrass sticks. Well I guess this is somehow a fusion of Australian cuisine but definitely not Vietnamese. They even served the Pho bo soup we ordered cold and my father has to ask them to heat it up for him. I'm giving two stars for replacing my dad's noodle soup with a new bowl but not coming back to eat anymore.

We made it back.. shared beautiful Cauliflower Tempura with Pickled Chillies, Microgreens and Aioli then Grilled Barramundi Curry with Snow Peas and Green Beans followed by Coconut Pandan Rice Pudding with Mango Sorbet and Black Sesame Praline with a Tasmanian Iced Reisling. Bit noisy if busy but worth it. It was so good, staff were wonderful, easy beachside parking across the road. Wheelchair accessible but space is tight so please ring and book. Firstly.. Book in advance so you won't miss out.. greeted by friendly, welcoming staff.. had three starters.. tempura barramundi with charred corn, crispy spring rolls with nuoc cham and pork and prawn dumpling with soy broth.. all these dishes had other added ingredients that gave extra levels of flavour and freshness.. main was Vietnamese pork and prawn pancake with pickled cucumber, lettuce and herbs plus a green papaya side salad.. excellent wine menu and dessert selection.. we had an iced riesling with fried bao buns and coconut ice cream.. my wife and I shared the dishes and loved every mouthful, can't wait to go back.. sensational!

Headed to Jimmy Wah’s Friday a week ago for a friends business Christmas party dinner. The booking process was super easy done online and confirmed quickly and even when we had additional guests added to our table the reservation team made the change easy to ensure we all were able to dine. Arrived for an 8 pm sitting having already had a few cocktails at another bar next door. The service at Jimmy Wah’s is absolutely incredible! I felt like I was having a dinner party at a friends house, our host was friendly, funny, cheeky and informative. We had the special plate menu $69 per head and a selection of plates. Because I’d already had a couple of cocktails before hand I didn’t have much of an appetite so I only managed to try the pork belly, tempura oysters and the barramundi which was amazing. I was blown away by how delicious the food was and I’m pretty sure it’s not just because I had three cosmopolitans. I really want to go back for a proper meal as I think I will have another extraordinary evening, highly recommend.
