My dad wasn’t sure where to park at first, but my mum asked the bellhop through the window, and she kindly gave us directions. There was plenty of underground parking, and best of all, it was free. We went through the glass doors, took the elevator up, and the atmosphere felt upscale but not crowded.
We waited less than a minute to be seated. The service wasn’t the happiest, but the waitress kindly asked if we wanted tap water. Another waiter refilled our glasses with cold water. The table was a bit cheap, but the chairs, despite having no padding, were surprisingly comfortable. This place is a buffet, so we could take as much as we wanted. At first, I always feel excited and think I can eat triple my usual amount, but once I get full, I eat my normal amount.
First Plate – Antipasto I started with antipasto, choosing three out of four cheese options with crackers. The crackers were a bit stale, but the cheese was good, similar to how my mum prepares it.
Second Plate – Special Rice & Oysters Kilpatrick I tried a special rice dish with sausage, seafood, and other ingredients. It was spicy and flavorful. I also had one small Oyster Kilpatrick, which tasted amazing.
While texting, the waiter took my empty plate without asking, which was a nice touch.
Third Plate – Oysters Mornay, Grilled Barramundi & Calamari I had Oysters Mornay, Grilled Barramundi Fillets, and Thai Spiced Fried Calamari. The oyster was small but tasted better than the first. The barramundi was decent, and the calamari was amazing.
The waiter cleared my family’s plates but didn’t take mine.
Fourth Plate – Smoked Salmon, Parmesan and Bread I had smoked salmon, grated Parmesan cheese, and toasted cubed bread. The salmon was fresh, the Parmesan was grated just how I like it, and the bread was crispy and paired well with the cheese.
Fifth Plate – Rice Combo I went back for more rice, mixing steamed rice and spicy rice. It wasn’t as good as I expected, and I didn’t finish it.
Sixth Plate – Dessert Round 1 I grabbed a smaller plate and got two chocolate mud cakes, a Hazelnut Praline Slice, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. The mud cakes were really good, especially with the chocolate on top. The Hazelnut Praline Slice was okay, and the whipped cream and chocolate sauce were standard.
Seventh Plate – Dessert Round 2 This time, I used a normal-sized plate. I had vanilla, chocolate, and salted caramel ice cream topped with melted chocolate and crushed cookie pieces. The whole plate was super good, and super unhealthy, but hey, it’s dessert!
The tap water was restocked for the second time without us asking, which was great service.
Eighth & Final Plate – Ice Cream & Caramel For my last plate, I had two scoops of salted caramel ice cream with caramel sauce and crushed cookies. It was really nice, and the caramel sauce was especially delicious.
By the end, I felt stuffed. That’s the thing with buffet desserts, there’s no limit, and you can just keep eating. But normal desserts are usually just one small portion.
The price is $95 per person, not including drinks, so it’s quite overpriced. But you can save money by eating the most expensive seafood.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely, especially if you love seafood. The only downside is the price, which is high. However, the food is consistently good and always gets restocked. The service is good, and the location and...
Read moreWe visited Terraces for the Friday night $119 per head seafood buffet as a family of 4. My Husband I have been attending this buffet for over 25 years for special occasions when visiting the GC.
Shout out to Mary for the attentive service, we really felt well looked after, she's beautiful. All other staff were terrific too, including the lovely chef serving the hot food. Thanks for serving me the snapper without bones- it was divine.
What is sad to see is that the buffet has several highs and several "lows" which may impact upon your experience depending on your preferences and expectations. It's not the buffet it once was.
I loved the fresh oysters and prawns. Stunning, fresh and made the dining experience for me. Husband enjoyed the Mornay and kilpatrick oysters and this is one of the reasons we keep returning. Not my favourite, but the fresh oysters were spot on.
My daughter loves sushimi Salmon and was doing well with this until she found bones. My son tried the carvery beef option and it was tough and despite being a beef eater, he gave up.
The hot food, antipasto, and salads are not on par with what we have experienced previously. On offer were limited and basic choices in comparison to the high cost of the buffet. There was orange chicken, fried rice, chicken drumsticks, lamb stew and porchetta and the aforementioned beef. The cooked snapper was delicious but the paella with seafood contained rubbery mussels and prawns. There were cooked bugs that were also rubbery, and had sat in the brain Marie too long, and tasted like they were cooked from frozen. There was a prawn/shrimp salad, pasta salad, smoked salmon, with some flavour and a lovely cucumber and dill salad, but much of the salad section was condiments and empty space, oh there was pasta salad actually as well. ☹️Even the antipasto was reduced, once there were semi dried tomatoes and even artichokes but last night there was egg plant and zucchini (?) I have vague memories of Indian curries and even pasta made fresh historically. This is no longer offered or wasn't when we were there.
If you don't enjoy seafood this is not the place to go. I don't think my kids enjoyed the options, although they did enjoy the dessert.
I feel sad for the staff who are doing such a 👍 job looking after guests with the limited and basic hot food options. Looking around the room, and at the empty seats it appears the crowd that we have previously experienced in attendance have voted with their feet. It was a lovely night due to the staff and the seafood previously mentioned. If I didn't enjoy the seafood options and lovely service I would have been more...
Read moreWe were booked here a few days ago ,.. about an hour before our booked time we received a phone call and a message left on our phone that there would be no oysters because the supplier hadn’t any supplies… I wonder why we weren’t informed any earlier of this, because I’m sure the supplier didn’t let them know an hour before our arrival on a Sunday afternoon. We decided to still go ahead because we were already dressed and leaving the house and too late to book anywhere else, (very co-incidental), that was our first mistake. Upon arrival, the greeters aren’t unfriendly, but they’re not exactly friendly either, We had booked the seafood buffet for $99 / head and what a huge disappointment it is… I remember years ago it was good. imagine our surprise to see other patrons receiving plates of oysters right beside us ! .. seemingly kept for them because they were ordering a-la-carte… management seem to forget that we were also paying customers, if you didn’t have enough oysters supplied for availability at the buffet, then the least you could’ve done was give us a plate like you had the other people, what a joke ! .. there were prawns of course, the crab legs were tasteless and mushy soft, certainly couldn’t be cracked they were so soft, no meat inside of them, a few cold salad type items including tasteless, stodgy, cold calamari, there was a hot piece of snapper which was nice, about the only nice thing they have, and that was the extent of,.. “The Seafood Buffet”, ( I’ve read other reviews which apart from oysters, they also had bugs ) The buffet is drab and tired, I’ve stayed in resorts in the Dominican Republic that put this place to shame on the food / dessert selection. We were seated at a window facing the pools, and as I’ve noted in other reviews since, the windows are filthy with what looks like dried food splatter running down on them. (we even took photo’s) Another issue, they charge you for parking, for the privilege of spending more than $200 with them ! .. when we arrived I asked do we get our ticket stamped for free parking, no way, they also have to lower themselves by stinging you that little bit extra, ($2/hour), .. the carpark had what looked like a dozen occupied spots and about 300 vacant spots. Top Tip: buy a kilo of Crystal Bay prawns from Woolies for $25 and enjoy them at home and save yourself more than $180 .. Second mistake, we didn’t read reviews before going ,… so many nicer/better places on the coast, seriously, for $99/head they really need to lift their game,….we won’t be back… P.S. What an asset, lovely...
