Read all the positive reviews and the hotel we were staying at recommended this restaurant on their website so was very disappointed with some of the food we were served on our first visit here. The staff were very nice particularly Andreana from Lithuania and I felt bad sending back not one but three meals - something I have never done before. We had a lovely seat by a window looking over the pretty lights and boats on the marina. The wine list was good and we ordered a bottle of Shiraz - Henschke Five Shillings $80 bottle or $17 by the glass. It was very nice. I asked one waiter, a fellow from Spain, if the fillet steak described on the menu only as Angus fillet was eye fillet, because I wanted to make sure it was tender. He wasn’t familiar enough with the differences in the cuts of meat, so we asked another lady, she was the one in charge and she confirmed it was eye fillet. Firstly the entrees we ordered were calamari and duck liver pate. I was excited for the pate because not many restaurants serve it anymore. I was a bit disconcerted when our waitress asked if we wanted extra crostini (very thin toasted baguette slice) with it for $5 more because there was only two pieces of toast with the dish and to be honest there’s never enough bread/toast/biscuits ever with pate or cheeseboards but at $28 two pieces to serve with a reasonably thick slice of pate is quite frankly just ridiculous. Why get your patrons offside straight away? I’m pretty sure most people don’t just eat pate on it’s own so either adjust the portion or add more toast to start or here’s an idea provide welcoming service and give them extra tiny bits of dried bread for free!! Our waitress did agree with us and was sympathetic but obviously nothing she could do, and we were on holidays so I said, live a little, we will have the extra toast. So now $33 for this slice of pate. Both entrees were delicious. Our mains came out, my husband had red emperor fish and I had the steak. His fish was good and unfortunately my steak was very tough. I made one cut with my steak knife and rather than slicing through like butter it was difficult to cut. I had ordered it medium rare so it should have been very tender. They took it back and the kitchen agreed it was not up to scratch but said all the steak was the same so I ordered something else. I looked at the menu and chose mushroom pappardelle. My husband had finished by now, but I was determined to enjoy myself and remained in good spirits. My pasta came out and unfortunately it tasted bad like off sour cream. I only had one mouthful and there was no way I could eat it. I sent that back and I was beginning to feel like a whinger and a bit embarrassed but the staff were very good and apologetic. So there was nothing else I wanted from the mains so I ordered a dessert - Panna cotta with strawberry ice cream. And you guessed it, I sent that back too. The Panna cotta had the texture of glue. We make this at home with cream and gelatine sheets and the texture is silky, but this was chalky and thick. Also the sides we ordered were very lacking. Greek salad,$12, with white blocks of something absolutely tasteless but not feta cheese - when I asked our waitress she said patrons had complained that feta cheese was too salty with the olives in the salad. I couldn’t believe it. Don’t call it a Greek salad with feta in it like their website menu advertises, in fact don’t call it a Greek salad at all. And the chips, $14, so incredibly salty we were shaking them. You can always add salt but it’s very difficult to remove it. Anyway I’m sure this is very unusual but this was our experience and we still paid over $200 for a very memorable meal for all the...
Read moreThe service at Glass dining restaurant was abysmal!
A day to be memorable with joy, as I was celebrating my 40th but unfortunately things did not go well thanks to the Glass dining service. Firstly, Terrible customer service! The waitress was outright rude and had no manners. It was evident the customer satisfaction wasn’t a priority!
Most restaurants offer you sparkling or still water. At the Glass we had no option, no water on the table and we had to constantly ask the waitress for it or go to the counter to get ourselves. At no point we were offered still or sparkling.
We ordered a bottle of champagne and the waitress just left in the bucket, and again we had to ask her to serve us. My friend called her and said she wanted a glass of rose and she abruptly asked: “which one?” Everyone at the table was shocked by how she asked.
Despite of the beautiful view, it was REALLY hot inside the restaurant, the guests were uncomfortable and complaining of the heat PS: they were not full at all. I asked if they could turn the aircon up but she just said it was in its maximum range (in a rude way) and I had to ask if she could turn the fan on and she was like, it’s already on, but I pointed to her the fan right above us that was turned off and she was like, oh ok.
Then, when it was time to sing happy birthday I asked them to bring me the cake and the staff asked me if I wanted the cake to be brought cut up or whole??? Who on earth sings happy birthday with a cut up cake ??? I could not believe they had asked me that!!!
To make things worse, after all of that when we went to pay for the bill we were charged an extra $650 approximately. The manager could not tell us who had paid for what, he only had receipts for the amount my friends had paid. We questioned the amount left as I was certain that everyone had already paid for their consumption but he couldn’t tell us and was adamant that we had to pay for it. We then realised they were charging me for extra people and counting kids as adults. However, every restaurant I’ve been there’s some sort of flexibility in the booking and allow a couple more or less people in the booking. I also clearly remember taking to the manager in the beginning and he said “let’s wait a couple of minutes and we count how many people are here before serving “.
Thus my experience at Glass was TERRIBLE , from a deplorable service to the unpleasant atmosphere, this restaurant completely failed to meet even the most basic standards!
It really upsets me as it was my 40th birthday party and not only me but all of my friends were disappointed! Shame...
Read moreSo my husband and I went to dinner at Glass for our 21st wedding anniversary. We have always loved going here and always told people how good it was. The service and quality of food and presentation have been brilliant, until our visit on the 24/3/22
We reserved our table for 5.45.
We ordered a trio of dips and bread and 6 scallops for starters, for mains my husband ordered the surf and turf and i ordered a salman and avocado salad.
Over an 1 hour and a half later at 7.25pm we got our main meal. They appologised and mentioned that apparently our order got shoved aside behind a table of 25.
The scallops were tiny the flavour was nice but meat was dry and over cooked. Mains came out my husbands meal had 2 oysters, 1st one he nearly chipped his tooth on cause of bits of shell in it. So he didn't eat the other one. The steak was supposed to be a 200g steak. It was more like 100g. The balmain bug was over cooked and dry and stuck in its shell.
My meal, the salmon, it tasted ok, the salad wasn't the best there was an entire bag of rocket on the plate way too many capers complete over kill with the caper sauce, so all I really ate was the salmon and a few bits of rocket.
The quality and presentation of the food is nothing like what it was. It was a real disappointment 😞
When the waiter came to collect our plates they asked how the meal was I wasn't going to say anything but thought they should probably know about the shell in the oyster. I didn't want to be too negative. The lovely waiter apologised and said they would only charge us for half the cost of my husbands meal.
This is where it gets worse. And this is why I have written a review.
2 hours after eating I was hit with food poisoning and have been extremely ill for 3 days.
To be honest I'm not 100% sure if it was the food, or if it was poor hygiene or cross contamination in the kitchen. Maybe they were understaffed given our 1hr and 40 min wait, and maybe things were getting rushed, so perhaps hand washing or cleaning utensils were getting missed.
Same time last year I gave a 5 start review the food and was divine and presentation was brilliant and service was amazing. This year it was the...
