Had some bad experiences with Vicki Wayne before but because they were the only trawler available this morning, I bought 2 kg of large green prawn but when I opened the bag at home, there's only one e large prawn and the rest are small and medium at the most. Very disappointing.
April 2022 I want to update the review below. The same trawler was the only one available when I went there so bought from him and had a much better experience..
2020 Bought two kilo of king prawns from the boat called Fruilana last week. I arrived there at 7 am to make sure I got the best prawns and I particularly asked if they were fresh, he said they were caught half an hour ago and showed me the lovely huge prawns in the basket. When I said I wanted two kilo, he didn't give me those from the basket, instead, he went to the fridge (cold tank) at the back of the boat and took out some prawns and he shielded my view of them and instead of pouring the prawns in a bag, he HAND PICKED each one and put them in the bag!!! I was too polite to ask why but when I went home and looked at the prawns I know why. The prawns I got were nowhere the size of the prawns he showed me, and even worse, most of them were soft and discoloured!!! So be alerted with Fruilana and do not let him get away with selling you those off seafood that he should be...
Read moreFor the seafood aficionados on the Gold Coast, the Fisherman's Co-op is an absolute must-visit. Pro tip: Get there early, and yes, I mean early, to avoid disappointment. These guys can sell out quickly, especially if the all the fishermen aren't out catching overnight (though they usually are). Public holidays and school holidays are particularly busy, so keep an eye on their Facebook page to know what has been caught during the night.
The seafood here is as fresh as it gets, caught and cooked in the early hours of the morning. If you're not near the front of the queue, you might miss out on some of the more unique biocatch like squid, cuttlefish, or pinkies. But trust me, it's worth the early wake-up call to get your hands on the freshest and finest seafood the GC has to offer.
From the delightful taste of just-caught Prawns, that just melt in your mouth, to the authentic and bustling atmosphere, the Co-op delivers an unparalleled experience. So set your alarms and treat yourself to a seafood feast that's...
