Seafood buffet was very good, but the size of the oysters let the whole thing down. The oysters are the smallest I have ever seen. The meat was slightly bigger than a 5c piece. It’s an embarrassment that they served these. I guess they are purchased as they are rejected by every other restaurant. They were fresh though, but you could barely taste them due to the minuscule size. I think there should be a few bowls with dressings to go with the oysters. Kilpatrick oysters are served also at the carvery, but also teeny tiny. The Crab legs were froze and watery. The scallops were large and plump, but were not replenished fast enough. They were served with a tarty dressing with fish roe, I believe. Often there were empty platters. When we first arrived, there was a whole fish looking dish, which had already been eaten. This was not replaced at all. Instead there were two platters of the same dish. Hey also bought out a second mussels dish instead of the scallops. I asked if there were scallops on the buffet, I got told yes. I asked where, and the lad said did I check the salad side. Yes I did, there were no scallops. I then asked the staff to bring some out, but customers should not have to. At this time two of the platters were empty, the soft cheese was empty and not replaced quickly either. The prawns were king prawns, not tiger which was a nice surprise. These were on the small size too, but acceptable. The bugs were also on the small side. The crabs too were small, and you could barely get any meat out, as again they were not very fresh or again frozen. Salads were uninspiring, and not many people ate those, similar to the hot food. There was a pasta made in a cheese wheel which was very nice, as was the chicken roll. The desserts were very very pretty, but they were all similar with a mousse type cake with a different flavour. Breakfast buffet was a let down, for $52, I was expecting it all. There was so smoked salmon, no prosciutto, no avocado. None of the high priced items you expect at $52. The star has all of these. A whole side of the buffet is for fruity. You don’t need 9 different plates of fruit, you can condense this and put on a platter, but it seems they just needed to fill the space. None of the fruits are exotic either, which should be expected on the GC and at $52. Buy some dragon or star fruit which is currently in season. No one seemed interested in the wilted salad and vegetables in oil. It is advertised as table service omelette, but this wasn’t offered to us. What they did well was the sweets, but again, not the same as on the menu online. The sweets were the best of any buffet I have had, as were the juices. The orange juice seemed real, with pith, whereas the star seems to have watered down juice. The trail mix and macadamia, was a small nod to local produce. There was a small gluten free area too, which seemed to be better than other hotel buffets. Coffee was included , which was great. The girls working today...
Read moreChristmas In July Great Food Grinchy Service ! We were warmly greeted by the doorman and shown to the restaurant by the friendly concierge. We were seated at a nicely presented table , the set menu was a pre-booked Christmas in July lunch. Our smiling Waitress introduced herself and said she would be looking after us, unfortunately this was where the good service ended! So I can only award 1 Star for Service prior to seating. We had to wait quite a while for our drinks and order to be placed, our assigned waitress seemed more interested in clearing empty tables and was oblivious even though the restaurant was not busy! We finally placed our orders with another waitress , who apologised but still it was a wait until the Champagne arrived. The entree soup was served from a jug by a younger waitress who seemed completely disengaged-no greeting-no smile and then she spilled some soup it was just a few drops on the tablecloth , but no apology or effort to rectify. Anyway I decided to let it go and just enjoy our lunch here. The main course was thankfully served by another waitress. The food itself was a highlight. Delicious, generous potions of sliced Wagyu beef, perfect crispy Yorkshire puddings, accompanied by flavoursome vegetables. Dessert was equally enjoyable. However the service continued to disappoint. We still couldn’t get the attention of our waitress, so we decided to leave and go and settle our bill. Another staff member unsmiling and no communication , in fact quite abrupt mannerisms, but ok maybe these staff are just all having a bad day. To top it the lady at the cash point handed us someone else’s bill. When I flagged it up as I appreciate it can happen though bearing in mind the restaurant was certainly not busy at this time, her reaction was to say nothing just print off the correct bill. So in summary, while the food was very good, the customer service was very disappointing. Our experience was appalling and left a lasting negative impression. Sadly despite the lovely surroundings and the beautiful music played by the pianist. It’s not a dining experience I would like to repeat. The lack of hospitality in this restaurant...
Read moreWhen it under Versace, it was one of the best seafood buffet place in Gold Coast. I cannot believe how bad it went, the food is not even up to normal standards. Sea food selection only has prawn (frozen not fresh), oyster (average), sand crab. (Extremely not fresh, frozen too long and smelly and mushy) The roast beef tough like chewing gum, also bitter outside as it is burnt. pork belly skin is not crackly and very dry. All the other food taste bland and like hostel food. I went to Versace seafood buffet multiple times and it used to be the place I treat my visitors for a nice meal. I book the night specifically to treat my nephews from Sydney. I have to apologised to him that I have no idea it turns to this low quality. Because I haven’t been back for a while since I moved to the northern suburbs. I was unbelievably bad food quality. I rather they charge us extra and give us real and proper food. They should at least spend some money on their coffee machine. The “double” espresso taste like water, worse than a drip coffee. I feel they bought this coffee machine from temu! The desert bar is good with great selections. The only thing that up to hotel standards.
I originally not plan to leave any reviews as I will not coming back again. However, they dare to send me an email to ask me write a review and share my experience!? I do not believe they don’t know how bad the food quality is! I can also overhear other table compliant about the smelly crab with disgusting texture. I also believe the restaurant manager know how bad it is, as they purchase not fresh frozen seafood with low quality meat.
It is the worst sea food Buffett I had in terms of food quality. I know Australia can buy quality sea food, this is not representing Australia standard. And it is definitely not Versace era standards. I feel sad that this restaurant used to be iconic Gold Coast seafood restaurant. I cannot describe the disappointment and how unbelievable low the food quality is. 90$ pp, there are plenty of options with good quality food around Brisbane. I won’t even pay $40 for this. Completely in shock of how everything turned after...
