Oh goodness this one actually made us feel a bit angry by the time we left. We came here on my birthday and to be fair we were about 10 minutes late for our reservation so maybe that's why we received the service we did. To start, my husband wrote in the special notes when he made the reservation that it was my birthday and I am pregnant with our first child in case there was anything special they could do. He then mentioned it again when we arrived. They literally never acknowledged it on any level throughout the night which isn't the end of the world but I know my husband was disappointed because he really hoped they could bring a little dessert or something out for me. Anyways we ordered the seafood platter for two which costs $130. The scallops, prawns, bugs and crab were all severely overcooked and flavourless. The salt and pepper squid was fine but nothing to write home about. To try and salvage the crab we asked for a little melted butter and the waitress stared at us like we were from Mars and finally brought us a side of soft butter (the consistency you would use to spread on bread) obviously we couldn't dip our seafood in it. She walked off before we had a chance to ask her to correct it so we just let it go and ate the flavourless crab so it didn't go to waste. The waitress wasn't rude or anything but she was in a serious hurry to get home and we literally had to flag someone down any time we wanted to order anything. My husband and I both highly highly doubt that crab or the prawns or any of the other "fresh" seafood were actually fresh, they certainly tasted like they had been cooked maybe a day or two before and just thawed out or something. Not even warm in the least when brought out and ice cold by the time we cracked it. We went to pay 155 bucks for this incredibly disappointing meal and the lady behind the counter didn't bother to ask if we enjoyed it or anything. As a fun little side note a roach flew into my face and on the platter at the end of the meal (not the restaurant's fault cause we were sitting outside but sadly not the most disappointing aspect of the meal and of course none of the staff noticed or cared even though all of the passerbys on the street noticed and had a nice chuckle at the spectacle). Look at the end of the day if the food is terrible its not the end of the world as long as there is somewhat friendly or decent service to make up for it. There were only about 3 tables in the whole place and we received very little attention. I would have rather they just tell us they want to close for the night so we could have gone to one of the more fun looking restaurants down the street where you could tell they actually wanted people to come in. Not sure how this place stays in business for what they charge they need to get better or move over for businesses that care about the quality of their...
Read moreYellowfin won many awards every year up until 2010, and we were given a $100 Gift Voucher for my husbands Birthday to try it out. I phoned to make a booking, the lady asked me if we had any vouchers, which I replied, yes we had been given a Gift Voucher for my husbands 50th Birthday. On arrival, we were the only table in the restaurant. Throughout the 2hrs we were there were another 3 tables having lunch. Our entrée's arrived quickly, and after 1hr we had to ask to order our mains. Eventually our main came out, we had run out of wine in our bottle by then and had to ask at the counter for a 2nd Bottle to have with our main. Overall the food was average, service amateur and atmosphere uncomfortable. I had to move my chair as I was facing straight into the sun, this also seemed to inconvenience the greasy haired waiter, even though there was no other tables occupied anywhere near us. We asked for the bill, and it came out at $130+. We presented the Gift Voucher, the waitress had asked for, at the time of our booking. Once the Voucher was presented, the waiter said he would need to recalculate the bill??? Why??? He then presented us with a new bill of $170+ almost $50 difference! I questioned why the extra charge? I was told our GIFT VOUCHER was a Bartercard voucher....so what, it was still paid for and given as a Gift! The waiter told me I should of told him I had a voucher, so he could give me the CHEAP menu. I said I was asked when we booked and the waitress knew we had a Gift Voucher. She did not mention our gift would only entitle us to the cheap version menu. The waiter said it is policy to ask at the time of booking so they knew which menu to give the customer! If this is their policy, why were we given the wrong menu & wrong bill? The waiter should of checked the booking before giving us a bill, and then tearing it up and replacing it with a bill some $50 more! The restaurant next door called "SAGE" is owned by the same person Mr Andrew McElhone. I phoned to discuss this with the owner, whom has not returned my call 24hrs later. This is just the beginning of my review's on this restaurant. Has anyone else had this experience? I've spent 40+ years on the Gold Coast and have never felt...
Read morePretty disappointing experience overall. Our dinner took just on an hour to arrive after ordering despite the restaurant not being full with around ⅓ empty tables; our waitress nervously told us multiple times that she had asked about our meal and it was coming soon. She was obviously under the pump and very friendly so I can't fault her attention but the food was average when it finally came and where this could have redeemed the experience, it just made the let down even worse.
We both ordered creamy chicken pasta but there was a distinct lack of cream and it was very oily and bland. The portion size was far too small so we were both left feeling hungry after (quickly) finishing. To be fair though, I didn't want to eat any more of this particular meal, just more of something!
We ordered garlic bread to come with our mains but this arrived 8 mins afterwards and due to our portion sizes being so small, we had all but finished our meal when it arrived. The garlic bread was also flavourless and undercooked so the bread roll was still doughy inside and there was no garlic flavour, we just paid a premium for a buttered roll.
Overall, very disappointed and we won't return to this restaurant on our next...
