Visited Sage Broadbeach for dinner with my partner’s family. As a recently diagnosed coeliac, I was initially relieved to see the menu clearly labelled with GF options, and staff who encouraged us to mention any dietary needs. We started with cocktails and wine which we were impressed with the selection at reasonable prices, and the service was friendly and attentive at this point. Things quickly went downhill. When ordering, I asked if the mushroom sauce was gluten free, and the waiter casually said he’d just “mark it as gluten free,” which didn’t inspire much confidence. My meal arrived a few minutes late, and after checking again, I was told there was contamination with the fried kale. Unfortunately, by that point, I had already eaten some vegetables and a potato, only to find out the potatoes were also cross-contaminated. My plate was taken away, and after more delays, I was told they couldn’t even pan-fry a fresh batch (which was the waiters suggestion!) Everyone else was finished eating by the time my meal returned, what I assume was the same steak, now overcooked from medium to well-done, thrown together with a basic garden salad (not the pear salad I ordered), and a bowl of steamed vegetables that came out later. It was incredibly disheartening. Despite seeming aware of coeliac needs at first, the kitchen clearly didn’t understand safe food handling or cross-contamination risks. After expressing my frustration (after staying extremely optimistic and pleasant up until this point) they offered a discount on the steak, but it barely felt like a gesture considering how little I ate. Sadly, the experience left me feeling dismissed and disappointed. I wouldn’t trust them to safely cater for anyone with serious dietary needs.

Birthday Dinner… Very disappointed! We booked a table for 7 people for family birthday celebrations . The cocktails were wonderful and that’s where it stopped! The waitress did not mention a number of items were unavailable that evening and we had to reevaluate our order. The main courses - two of us chose the rump steak- unavailable! and had option 2. sirloin steak. Ordered medium well. It came out more than well done. At almost $50 for the meal they were sent back to kitchen. The 2nd round they came out served medium with a blood ring on the table. These steaks were not sirloin but thin fatty cuts of meat. We had to ask twice for the drink menu to order wine with food. Very unattentive staff. We told the waitress we didnot want anything else for the main. She didn’t even say Happy Birthday to my brother. We spend $350 plus ! Won’t return. We were told when we went to pay the bill that the chef said it wasn’t good meat not his cooking and we could have the sirloin at the rump price.. seriously disrespectful those two meals should have been foc ! Never again!

Where do I begin. All the staff seemed to be South American? Possibly working backpackers. Not that that really matters but the guy who took our order messed up twice. Couldn't even get the drinks right. He had no idea. We ordered the seafood platter which was the most expensive thing on the menu. We also ordered garlic prawns. They weren't very garlicy. We were given crab forks for the platter yet the platter contained no crab. There was no lobster. Most of the plate was filled up with fried calamari and way too many baby octopus which were OK. The bugs weren't fresh which was dissapointing seeing as they were the most expensive thing in the plate. The prawns were OK. The Scallops were the best thing on there. For the $ we paid I would have expected more. I was left underwhelmed. I don't think I would come back nor recommend the resturant to anyone else.

First time attendance joining friends to celebrate new years. I will NEVER attend again Was disappointed in all aspects of the evening we were seated at 6pm and at 9pm I left without having been served my ordered meal. First hick up drinks ordered were not provided only three of six of us got our drinks before us having to ask for them again. And the cocktails and mocktails were supposed to be the same drink but was drastically different in taste each and every time they were ordered and given. After 1.5 hrs waiting for our ordered food we were offered a garlic and cheese pizza to share for the table and a free round of drinks. Which was delicious however two of us were bread intolerant so couldn’t consume and another guest had high intolerance to garlic. After 2 hrs waiting half of the seafood platter for two was placed upon the table with the oysters and cold prawns, two bugs and prawns meals were provided which were very average the bugs overcooked, the prawns were tasteless. Nothing else, so missing were the remainder of the seafood platter, kilpatrick oysters, seared scallops and speghetti bolognaise. Half an hour later still the missing meals did not get served. In the end I have a medical condition that requires that I eat by a certain time and I left without a meal making me quite ill. And we had two other elderly guests whom also had similar requirements. For the food that we were provided we were charged full price and I’m sorry but after that catastrophe you should have offered the night on the house and cut your loses we paid $250 for a night that was a nightmare and made us also miss the fireworks which we had planned to enjoy so needless to say I am left extremely disappointed and my New Year’s Eve was aweful. The only positive was the little blonde waitress whom held her composure and smile throughout the night. Even after us witnessing her consistently being yelled at by frustrated guests also experiencing the same misfortune. If it had not been for her I would have also lost my temper...

This is the review I didn't want to write because I went to Yellowfin years ago and it was incredible. Unfortunately that is not the case now. If you look through my other reviews (I do a lot) you will see I reviewed the old Yellowfin 3 years ago and gave them 5 stars.

We had the hot and cold seafod platter for 2 to share on Sat night, we booked fairly early and it was before they got busy so that can't explain what went wrong.

The good:

  1. Staff were attentive and polite.
  2. Cold prawns were lovely but it's pretty hard to mess those up.
  3. Scallops were awesome and cooked to perfection.
  4. The baby octopus was some of the best i have had.
  5. Apparently the oysters were nice, I am not an oyster fan myself but my dinner guest assured me they were nice.

The bad:

  1. We saw in review photos on here before that there were chips with the hot portion of the platter, we got none and when we asked about it were told we have to order them seperate.
  2. The Blue Swimmer Crab, the meat was really dry, it was quite strange and I have never experienced this from Blue Swimmer before, not sure how that even happens.
  3. The Lobster, I paid 60 bucks for half a lobster and we left over half of the serve because it was quite frankly the WORST lobster I have EVER had (and I have had a lot), it was so tough it was like chewing a leather shoe, it actually had a mouth feel of a tough overcooked sinnuey steak.

Considering it was $160 for a sub standard platter then another $60 for an extremely awful half lobster, I won't be going back and I won't be reccomending Yellowfin to anyone.

This really is a shame because the old Yellowfin was one of my favourite seafood restaurants in the area but this is...
