My partner and I have been regulars here for a while but hadn't been in a couple months. We knew that it had switched owners which was a bit disappointing since we knew the previous owner, but didn't think it would change much and so brought some family along.
We were sat in the courtyard area which had been done up quite nicely since the last time we were there which was great. Still the same kind of mellow music playing throughout the restaurant.
My partner was a bit disappointed to see that the mocktail menu had been removed. We ordered our food but didn't get it for about 45 minutes. I understood that it was a busy Saturday night but it was still a really long wait time. The waitress politely apologised for the wait which I appreciated.
And then we got the food and were again disappointed. We always order arancini but this time, there was less sauce on the plate and the sauce was not as nice; the arancini balls were not as flavourful, and they were a little overcooked as well. My partner noted that there was less sauce inside, and the oil it was cooked in was clearly not as high quality.
My partner had order a small margherita pizza as always but this time it was much smaller, had less toppings and she stated that the quality was that of a pub meal, not restaurant quality. The previously beautiful fluffy pizza base was now store-bought quality.
I ordered the salsicce which I have ordered multiple times before and found no chorizo in it this time, despite the menu still saying that it does. Otherwise, the salsicce was quite nice.
We didn't end up getting to our favourite dish, the chocolate brownie, because we didn't want to be disappointed again. But it at least used to be a beautifully rich dish.
I hope that the new owner will realise that cutting corners with cheaper ingredients will only hurt the business. It no longer seems worth the price to come here anymore... I can't see my partner and I returning and we're both incredibly...
Read moreWe went last night for my son's birthday. All the meals has come out except my son's small Hawaian pizza. He was waiting, waiting. He said later that he thought his was last as they were making him a "special" pizza for his birthday. I spoke to the wait staff, "How much longer for my son's pizza please?". She went away, and as where we were sitting was very near the kitchen I clearly heard " how much longer on the small Hawaian pizza?" , she repeated herself and then came the simple reply "Oh", which said to me they had forgotten to make it. When she finally came back I asked " did they forget yo make it did they?", and was told " oh no we're just busy?". Liar . 7 other meals came out, you forgot to make it, you could clearly see everyone else had a meal and he had nothing.
My father in law asked for a beer. When the sealed beer was dropped on the table, could he have an opener please, as i guess he probably didn't want to use his teeth. And hey, maybe a glass would be nice too please? No, no not a short whisky glass, a beer glass please?
There were a number of other issues such as asking for my son's birthday cake to be bought out please . It was dumped on the table and then having to ask could we please actually have a knife to cut the cake.? And then having to ask again could we have some plates please? And could we have some spoons please? And we got charged to cut the cake.
When it came time to pay the bill, my wife had to show the staff how to add up the bill with their calculator, as they didn't didn't seem to know how. And then to top it off, we has to ask could we please the plastic cake container back that my son's cake had been carried in.
The food was very nice, yes, but the service was very ordinary. A far cry from the previous owners and staff who were excellent and attentive. It appears to have has gone downhill since then after reading a lot of other comments, and I'm afraid to say we...
Read moreHave been here a few times over the years, usually left the place with a really good experience but unfortunately my most recent time was disappointing. It seemed clear that something had changed with the first course, the ‘garlic bread’ did not live up to the name, in the sense that there was no garlic to be seen, smelt or tasted - in fact, the bread that was served was dry and only tasted like yeast. We mentioned this to the waitress at the time and again to the staff when paying the bill, they were very polite and didn’t charge us for it, hopefully there is some improvement with that next time. The only other issue was the fact that again, the classic meals I had ordered and eaten many times before were never different and not in a good way. The margarita pizza also tasted like yeast, and the dough is hard to describe. It looked and tasted as if it was just flour and water, with no substance to appeal to the eyes or palette. The pizza was edible! But the base, paired with a thin layer of watery sauce and cheap tasting cheese on top made it feel as if the person who made it didn’t know what pizza was. We also had the carbonara, as we have previously and unfortunately this was not great either - mostly just sickening in the sense that it tastes as if it were just cooked pasta with thickened cream poured on top. I don’t usually review places, as I don’t like to offend but in this case I just hope someone might read this and make a few adjustments so I can keep on coming back! The environment was clean and the staff were very friendly, it was a comfortable place to eat and despite these issues, I...
