My parents and I went for dinner here tonight (23/1/2022). We enjoyed a very nice meal (lovely fresh produce) with lovely, attentive staff. During our meal (just after our entrees arrived) the restaurant and most of Hobart were plunged into darkness with a power outage. The waiting staff did everything they possibly could to make us comfortable (provided candles for us to see and manger visited each table to explain what was going on, ensure we were ok and to see if we needed anything). Our meal continued without a hitch (despite the kitchen having to work in the dark and 27 degree heat without any air conditioning!). Despite these conditions the service remained impeccable. Unfortunately we were seated next to probably the rudest couple we have ever encountered. Despite their absolutely shocking display of arrogance and rudeness to the waiting staff, Me Wah did everything in their power to try and make them comfortable and happy. Huge shoutout to the waiting staff for their incredible service, attentiveness and professionalism (and a big shoutout to our waiter Bing who was excellent). We felt for the staff having to deal with such rude and ignorant customers and admired the way they handled the situation. Would highly recommend Me Wah and their staff for delicious food (especially the spicy salt squid and the fresh Tasmanian fish fillets sautéed with fresh garlic, peas and asparagus), and...
Read moreOver the years we have had some very good dishes here. However, some years ago, our plate of steamed tiger prawns was undercooked. We stopped going for about a year. More than a year ago, a dish of roast pork belly, incredibly, was 90% fat. That really put us off. Recently, we visited again. It was a tremendous disappointment. The sweet and sour soup, while tasty, was like flavoured glue. The worse was our plate of fried "hor fun'. We were expecting a fantastic plate of this simple dish from a award winning restaurant. However, the noodles used was thin, more the kind used for pad thai. This expensive plate of noodles, in the menu, was to be fried with 'black angus' beef. But the beef was disgusting; the slices were slimy and tasted like what semi-digested meat would taste like. We did not think that a reputable restaurant, even a Chinese one, would treat good beef like this. We absolutely do not understand why a good cut of beef needs to be tenderised. We packed the beef pieces for our dog {to be given to him after we had soaked away the excessive saltiness). And while not on the menu, we were kindly told we could order 'peking duck.' It was sub-standard. The skin was not even a bit crispy and the thick sauce provided was most ordinary. It will be a very long time before we step into this restaurant again, if at all. Each visit, seems to...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the location of this restaurant. This is a proper and fancy restaurant. Very upper class despite the location. As soon as you walk through the massive decorated doors, you're experience changes. Everything is beautiful, from the furniture in the waiting areas to the decorations on the wall. The service here is the some of the best you will get anywhere. It is flawless. Every waiter and waitress is incredibly nice and knows how to do their job. The stand out is definitely the food. The food here is amazing. It truly holds the title of best Chinese food ever for me. The food was extremely fresh and tasted amazing. There are a lot of very nice vegetarian options. If you come here, try the eggplant dish, it is amazing! The drinks are great with a very extensive drink menu. The deserts are incredible too. Hand crafted and fresh, they are a feast to the eyes and the tongue. Simply incredible. Overall the prices of this restaurant are what you would expect when it comes to the food. However the drinks and the deserts are a bit on the more expensive side. It is worth it though considering the quality of it all. Definitely 100% come eat at this restaurant even if you have to drive a bit to get here. It's truly an incredible...
