We were looking a decent meal on the evening before we left the Sandy Bay area while on holidays. I read some on line reviews and the All Thai sounded just the ticket. How wrong we were. We went in and the young waiter was pleasant and prompt with drinks. it was downhill from there. The entrees average but passable. Todman (Fish cake) and Moon discs could have both been out of the freezer area of an Asian shop. The mains sounded great (on the menu) but what was delivered was terrible. My wife ordered 12 Nam Tok Nuea: Char grilled beef salad with chilli flake, seasoned with ground roasted rice, mint, red onion, coriander. The dish was a basic garden salad with a bit of coriander and mints leaves - now lovely Asian sauce and the steak thrown on top. I was chewy and stewed. - Total letdown and most of it was left uneaten. My 16 Yum Talay (GF) Combination of seafood with Thai fresh herb salad and chilli lime dressing was served luke- warm and partially cooked, The Squid was still translucent; the prawns and fish did not taste fresh. It had the taste of frozen seafood. The salad was like my wife’s but it did have some flavour. I sent it back to get the seafood cooked. It came back in about 7 or 8 minutes. It was a little warmer but otherwise very average. We also asked for steamed vegetables aka Asian style. The vegies were bland and in hot water- no flavouring at all. Just expected some lovely Asian greens but just got boiled vegies. We did not order rice. The bill came to about $78.00. (with two soft drinks). Most of my wife’s was left uneaten, but I was so hungry I ate most of the seafood except rubbery squid and left the salad. We tactfully complained about the substandard quality of the food but they did not even offer a discount on my wife’s un eaten meal. The man who bill use just shrugged. (must be used to it). All in all, a bad experience save the initial good service. It could have been partially redeemed by some good customer service at the till and perhaps getting some quality Thai cooks in the kitchen The Night before for we went to Kathmandu Cuisine in Battery Point, for under $15 more we got an amazing meal and professional attentive care and service. I rarely put in feedback online but felt...
Read moreFor those among you who have had the pleasure of spending time in our beautiful city, you will be aware that Hobart is packed wall to wall with stunningly dynamic dining. From restaurants to chippies and beyond to food vans or weekly market stalls, this city seems designed to saturate any craving one might have.
That being said. After 15yrs of ravishing all this city has had to offer, this unassuming and immaculate venue is the ONLY place i have never had a distasteful, poorly prepared, over priced or under-served meal. The staff are the definition of polite, respectful and efficient. And the meals are some of the most vibrant works I have had the privilege of sampling.
If you have one night in your life to spend in Hobart make the effort and head down to this precious gem.
The menue is perfectly balanced to account for a wide range of tastes while being small enough to ensure a freshness and finesse in each meal that makes every bite resonate.
If you do make it there yourself and can't decide what to try then I'd highly recomend the Ginger and shallot with pork and prawns or their lovely light and fresh Pad thai.

Read moreMy partners and I stumbled upon All Thai Sandy Bay on a recent trip to Hobart, and I'm so glad we did! Located on Sandy Bay Rd, it's a casual spot with black and orange walls, offering a relaxed atmosphere perfect for a weeknight dinner.
We were immediately greeted by the warm smile of the owner, who took the time to explain some of their signature dishes and answer our questions about spice levels. We opted for the classic Pad Thai and the Green Curry with rice, both prepared with fresh Tasmanian ingredients. The flavors were absolutely spot on – the Pad Thai had the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy, while the Green Curry offered a satisfying kick of heat. We also shared a plate of spring rolls to start, which were crispy and packed with delicious filling.
Overall, All Thai Sandy Bay was a delightful surprise. The food was authentic and flavorful, the service was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. We'll definitely be back next time...
