the ambience was top notch. so comfy and pretty. we got the udon yakiniku hotpot, unagi don, salmon sashimi and the suminato roll. the hotpot was so. much. food. really generous with meat and extra generous with veg. could have given more udon noodles (and a bit less veg) but it wasn’t a big deal with the other ingredients given. soup was served piping hot and it was tasty.

unagi don was generous with the rice. the unagi was so soft and despite the inevitable bones in it, was really easy to eat

salmon sashimi - fresh and didn’t have a fishy taste nor smell. i eat sashimi pretty often and was rly satisfied with the freshness of the fish

suminato roll was delicious! sauce has a bit of spice but nothing you can’t handle. it’s jam packed with sashimi and was amazing. they were super generous with the portions.

in general the service was superb. servers were all friendly and attentive. this place is definitely worth the coin. we preferred the sushi to the main dishes but...

My husband and I were so happy to have found this place, especially after a week of not having Asian food (yes, we need / want our rice). We actually came here twice over two consecutive days.

Loved: sukiyaki (big portion, delicious chewy noodles), beef poiterhouse (fantastic and my favourite!!!), aburi salmon (fresh, generous w salmon and rice, though the sauce was a little bit too much for me), house sake (surprisingly good!)

Underwhelming but not bad: salmon cream croquette (we had better in Japan but that’s absolutely not a fair comparison), saikyoyaki fish (fish was a little dry), oysters (not juicy enough)

All in all, great experience here! Price is reasonable, staff are friendly and welcoming, food is overall great (as you can tell, we didn’t manage to get a photo of the dishes except for one because we devoured...

The atmosphere at Suminato is great - clean and classy and an enjoyable experience all around. Staff were very nice and checked in at good intervals.

Food ranged from just fine to very good. The grilled scallop, oysters, grilled squid, sushi roll and sashimi was delicious, the grilled scallop being the highlight of the night. The squid was tender and juicy.

The beef sukiyaki and grilled white fish were fine, the white fish was very buttery and meaty which could be great depending on your tastes.

The cocktails we had were decent, the snow mountain and the yuzu sunshine. The yuzu was better. The sake and umeshu menu is extremely extensive which was awesome!

For 12 oysters, grilled squid, grilled scallop, sashimi platter, 2 cocktails, grilled white fish, beef sukiyaki, and large chefs sushi roll...

Great sushi place, my favourite sushi place in Hobart. Great atmosphere and has amazing seating for big groups, if you have a big group and you book ahead of time, you can get a private room. It’s great!
