Just had an UberEats delivery from Suwan Thai and although my daughter says her meal was delicious, I must say my laksa was one of the worst I have ever eaten. I love Laksa, have been visiting Thailand for over 20 years and know exactly how it should taste. There were none of those subtle delicious flavours of a traditional laksa; this was claggy, a strange orange colour and I suspect made from some sort of paste. I almost suspect it had a yellow curry paste base. The noodles were lacklustre, many clumped and clinging together to resemble a solid clump, more like a noodle porridge rather than the light rice/vermicilli noodles which I specifically asked for on my order form (as it has been my experience that some thai restaurants serve udon noodles, not a preference of mine). These noodles were rice/vermicilli but almost unrecognisable in taste, flavour or appearance. Right now those rice noodles are sitting very heavily in my stomach and the taste of something not resembling any laksa I've ever tasted before is making me grateful I am at home and close to a bathroom. I have been left with a very heavy artificial taste in my mouth that will not go away, no matter how often I brush my teeth (twice now). The strange taste persists, not at all pleasant.

Fortunately, there are many thai restaurants in Hobart offering delicious authentic laksa soups. Suwan, I will not be back. That was...

This restaurant truly delivered some of the most incredible Thai food I’ve had in a long time. My partner and I stumbled across it thanks to a glowing Google review, and I’m so glad we decided to check it out.

It’s a bit tucked away—located upstairs in a building and not the easiest to spot—but once you find it, you’ll know it was worth the effort. The seating is cozy, with a few tables inside and additional seating just outside the restaurant but still under cover. We arrived on a Sunday evening without a reservation and were greeted warmly and seated outside.

To start, we shared the roti with peanut sauce, and it was absolutely perfect—fresh, piping hot, and paired with a peanut sauce that was rich and full of flavor. For the mains, we chose the chicken panang curry and Lui Suan, a chicken stir-fry with a special sauce. Both were mild in spice as described and arrived beautifully presented, steaming hot, and full of bold, authentic flavors. Each bite felt like a trip back to Thailand.

We also noticed a lamb Massaman curry on the menu that sounded amazing, but as it takes 25 minutes to prepare, we’ll have to save it for next time. It’s clear they put a lot of care into every dish.

If you love Thai food, this little spot should definitely be on your list. It’s a...

To the management of Suwan Thai, I am writing this disappointing review on an employee of yours due to poor customer service for unknown reasons. Firstly, she was terribly cold and impatient with the ordering of my food. During lunch, she served a customer who happened to be a Malaysian and was chirping away in mandarin throughout with excellent customer service. At the time, there were three other tables which she were polite and patient with. Last but not least, she took away the chili flakes without asking if we had finished with it. Question to you, Which kind of head waitress would take the garnish away without asking for permission? Reading onto the reviews, it may have seemed that other customers have experienced this issue and written multiple times on this particular waitress and are not returning to the restaurant despite how delicious the food is. As an Australian citizen, such arrogant and stuck-up behaviour are not acceptable and tolerated in the country! Let alone to be hired in the top Thai restaurant in Tasmania. Your next move will decide my consideration of returning to...

It was quite disappointing as it started off great with the entrée but went downhill with the mains. Started off by ordering the Chicken Skewers with Sticky Rice, Roti with Peanut Sauce, Laksa, and a Pad See Ew. Roti with the Peanut sauce was absolutely delicious. Roti was crispy, and the sauce was sweet, which really matched well. Chicken skewers with sticky rice came out next, and it was very weird. The sticky rice came in a plastic zip lock bag (as seen in the photo), and we had to take it out ourselves. The chicken skewers were great and once again sweet, but it was very delicious. The sticky rice was way too soggy for my liking. Next up was the Laksa, which was alright, but the noodles were very broken and sweet. Pad See Ew was very disappointing as it is one of my favourite thai noodle dish. The Pad See Ew was surprisingly not sweet at all and in fact quite bland. Another thing was there were barely any noodles in the pad see ew. The remaining noodles were all broken up into small pieces along with the eggs and meat. Overall, I was quite disappointed.

Month of visit: December 2024 I visited this restaurant based on its high rating on Google Maps, but I would rate it 4 stars for the following reasons: * The first time we came, it was before 3 PM, but the restaurant was already closed, which was disappointing since we were hungry and excited to try it. * On our second visit, I made a reservation over the phone, and the booking process and service were smooth and pleasant. * Having tried many Thai restaurants in Brisbane, I feel that the ones there are still superior in terms of flavor and overall experience. * The restaurant’s ambiance felt a bit outdated and quiet, which didn’t quite match the expectations set by its high ratings. * The Pad See Ew had overly large chunks of broccoli, which wasn’t to my liking. * On the bright side, their laksa was delicious and stood out as a highlight of the meal. * Overall, the pricing felt a bit on the higher side for the experience offered. While it didn’t completely meet my expectations, it’s still a decent spot to try if you’re in the area!

This is some of the best Thai food we have ever had. My partner and I chose this place based on a google review and were not disappointed. It is tucked away upstairs inside a building and a little challenging to find however definitely worth it. The restaurant has a small amount of seating inside and then more outside the restaurant however still undercover. We arrived without a booking on a Sunday evening and were warmly greeted and offered a table outside. We ordered the roti with peanut sauce to share as an entree. It was fresh and very hot and the peanut sauce was amazing. For mains we shared a chicken panang curry and Lui Suan with chicken (a stir fry with a special sauce) and then some steamed rice. Both dishes indicated they had mild spice and they did not disappoint. Both meals were beautifully presented, steaming hot and simply delicious. They have a lamb Massaman curry on the menu which we would have loved to try however it takes 25 minutes to prepare. If you love Thai food you will love this restaurant.
