A few of us recently went on an Instameet to historical Ipswich, home to many fabulous old buildings, an art gallery and some trendy cafés. So we headed to the Pumpyard Bar at 4 Hearts Brewery where they brew beers made without chemicals, and also create small seasonal batches. We sat outside in the winter sunshine, after asking a staff member if they could turn down the music. They were happy to oblige, and were helpful and pleasant all round. We sat and perused the menu eagerly. They have burgers and pizza, and the usual pub suspects like chicken, a seafood basket, and a couple of salads. And delicious eggplant chips! These were ever so crunchy on the outside, and tender on the inside. The coating was a wee bit salty for me, but the relish was a spicy and delicious winner. We were very happy with these little numbers. One friend chose a pizza, while her mum had brisket sliders. Hubby went for a polenta stack; I had calamari while hubby no. 2 chose a pumpyard burger. And yes, there were beer-battered chips, which were freshly made and delicious. There was a tasty pizza with a thin and crispy base (yay, my fave kind). So there was pancetta, and fresh basil and black olives, salami and mozzarella - all the good things. It was a wee bit too salty for my tastes, but all up, this was a delicious pizza. I enjoyed my calamari, which was delightfully spicy and not at all greasy. A bit more aioli would have been nice, but I managed. It was tender, it was tasty; I liked it. Our friend’s mum chose the sliders, but they defeated her, and she only ate two of them. She enjoyed them both though; the slow-cooked brisket with slaw and BBQ sauce was flavourful and tender. And terrific value, too! The burger came with onion, Swiss cheese, pickles, tomato, beetroot and bacon, tomato relish and beer-battered chips. This was a hefty sort of a burger, and thankfully not on brioche or any of those fancy buns! Hubby No. 2 hoovered this down. Mr P. always loves a vego option, so he went for the polenta stack. It included mushroom, eggplant, capsicum, red onion and a napoli sauce. He loved the large pieces of polenta, with their crispy outside and tender interior. The tasty yellow capsicum and red onion added flavour and texture to the dish. I found the flavour of the polenta a bit odd for my tastes, but Mr P. was happy with his choice. It's gluten free too for all those coeliacs out there. We all enjoyed our meals, while we sat outside in the sunny courtyard. The brewery and bar is located inside a beautiful old building which has been refurbished in recent times. Worth a drive out...

We found this amazing restaurant and brewery while searching for date night ideas. I must say, it was a perfect recommendation from another travel blogger, that we follow. 😊
Once greeted and seated by the friendly staff in an amazingly decorated, brewery styled set out, we perused their lengthy menu for in house brews and a good feed. With the large and very appetising names and descriptions, this was not an easy task and quickly made harder once ordering and being made aware of the newest options of beers.
The "Four Hearts Share Board" had plenty to offer for two people and most importantly, included pork belly, buffalo wings, chicken tacos and real American beef sliders.😋
What else could you want for lunch right? Well.
Turns out four hearts brewery, has the perfect accompaniment, in the form of an in house beer tasting paddle. Simply select the four most appealing beers for yourself, or if you can't decide, tell the barman your preferred commercial beer and they'll expertly match similar in house beers for your paddle. Let me tell you, the guys can definitely pick the right beers and brew a bloody good drop!
One paddle down, our food arrived at our table and we thought it'd only be right to have another paddle for the meal. As you can see, the share board was amazing. Everything was on point, which is a credit to the chef and his team.
The kitchen was completely open planned and was a very calm and collected environment for a very busy service. It truly ran like a well oiled machine.
So, will we return? Yes! Most definitely! Quite regularly, maybe a monthly date, perhaps! 😉

Read moreVery disappointing visit… it’s been on our list to try for ages. Weren’t we dissatisfied.
Sat down at a dirty inside table with dirty menus… the wife got our orders and went up to place them, came back and said they can’t do the bangas and mash… no big deal, I’ll have the cheesy kransky hot dog instead…. Again sent back, we don’t actually have any sausages (could have said that earlier)
Go up for a 3rd time and said get me either the fish of the day or the southern chicken burger… sorry we don’t have any fish or chicken either.. (again, something you should tell dinners when they walk in or sit down)
So ordered the Margherita pizza, was not as per menu… no cherry tomatoes and 6 basil leaves.
Kids menu is pathetic as well, the $12 cheese burger is the same size as an Oreo biscuit. The chicken nuggets were dark brown, overcooked and rock hard.
The brisket was 100% perfect, but the side of spinach was heavily seasoned with salt and made it overpowering.
Staff had 0 people skills, tables and dining area not clean, it wasn’t busy…..and apart from the brisket (which was delicious) the rest I feel bad for paying for.
Will not...
