The good: It's in a lovely location with a beautiful set up. The bakery section has a warm atmosphere and the baked goods are presented beautifully. The price is on the higher end, but within reason of a French bakery. The coffee is good, strong and smooth and the milk they've chosen is on the higher end. The service was good. The employees were polite.
The bad: The matcha was a very interesting, dull, but pale off-white green rather than the traditional vibrant grassy green that comes from high quality matcha. The taste...matched the appearance. The strawberry syrup, even if it was house-made was more syrup than strawberry. The resulting concoction looked more like a hojicha latte when mixed. I would 100% avoid all matcha related drinks here. Especially at a price point of $9+. Stick with the coffee. The coffee's good.
The pastries themselves were passable. The vanilla bean Danish was better than the fruit one. The only thing setting them apart was the custard. The custard was a bit strange in both. Lumpy in the vanilla bean, but textually even weirder in the fruit Danish. I could literally pierce the custard with a fork and hold it upside down. I feel too much thickener had been added. (Also, I'd hold off on the Maraschino cherry on the fruit Danish. It looks nice, but tastes mismatched. Also on the excessive globs of cream on the fruit danish). Also, I'm not sure if it's the chef's preference, but I would expect a fruit pastry of this price point to be glazed. That might just be my personal preference, but I've never come across a fruit pastry that wasn't glazed.
The set up, although beautiful, had a fly trapped in the display cases. Quite off-putting. More a reflection of the the customers inability to fully close cases, but avoidable with an air curtain or by closing the door.
The tables needed a slightly better wipe to clean it up. But the chairs and floor definitely needed to be swept and wiped down to clean up the crumbs and crushed fruit. I understand that it's busy, but its also the only perspective i get of what the kitchen might be like, so it's a concern. A minor problem, but one that bothered me a lot.
Overall, I personally wouldn't come here again, but it is a quaint shop located southside unlike many other French bakeries. It didn't fit my personal taste, but perhaps it might fit yours. (But still avoid the matcha. - the matcha croissant has that beautiful colour and saturation (can't vouch for taste- didn't order it), but the...
Read moreI am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the recent customer service I experienced at your bakery. Upon entering the bakery, I was surprised to find that the morning menu was not displayed. When I inquired about it, a staff member informed me that ‘We don’t know which is the morning menu because it depends on the kitchen staff. They were unable to provide me with any explanation for this change, and they were not apologetic for the inconvenience it caused me. I was further disappointed by the attitude of the staff member who assisted me. They were dismissive of my concerns and seemed uninterested in providing me with a satisfactory solution. As a result, I left the bakery feeling frustrated and disappointed. This is not first time that's why I write this review. I am writing to you today in hopes that you will address the issues that led to my negative experience. I believe that your bakery would benefit from a more transparent and customer-friendly approach to its operations. I would also appreciate it if you could provide customer with more information about daily menu list or more clear notice in the shop search like when is fresh menu coming and which time or which day it need to be clear. I hope that you will take my feedback seriously and take steps to improve the customer service experience at your bakery. I would be happy to return as a customer if I can be confident that I will receive the same level of quality and service that I have come to expect from your...
Read moreWhat a joke. They are just dragging out the checkout process on purpose to make it look like they're so busy, with a bunch of people waiting in line, to show random people (or potential customers) how well they're doing, to pique their curiosity and get them to come by later. I don't know when this disgusting marketing tactic became a thing, but it is absolutely disrespectful to make their actual customers wait in line, watching the staff drag out the process and join in their random show-off. It has to be stopped.
I came in, picked out the things I wanted, joined the line, and found only 4 groups (only 5 people, in fact, though) waiting in front of me. It took more than 10 minutes to pay and get out of the place. I had to watch the staff, not interested in the customers waiting, but just wandering around as if they were doing something. Even when they were actually working at the counter, they just deliberately worked slowly to keep as many people in there as possible. While I was waiting, the 2 people in front of me actually put the things back on the shelf and left.
I wish I had just left with them. The things I bought weren't bad, but they weren't really good either, considering the silly song and dance...
