This place has a lovely upbeat and retro atmosphere. The vintage furniture and crockery are charming. Background music at a more acceptable level than mamy places so cinversatiin is still easy. Great for lunch or tea, it also has many lovely savoury offerings both modern and classic. And if you enjoy them as much as I did, they will also cater... the board lists a stand filled with cupckes for hire at very reasonable rates.. yum! Their chocolate beetroot cake is very interesting and certainly pleasing to the palate! They also standout with an exquisite chocolate rasberry cake that is also GFDF..(So many places only have sime boring teacake for the gluten-dairy challenged!)..so 6 stars if i could! They also offer quite a range of GF DF and a combination of other needs such as egg free and vegan options. Range of milk alternatives. Staff were happy to check ingredients. The service was friendly efficient and no frills even at their busiest times. Will definitely come back again

Sherbet is an absolute gem of a place! Located across from the train station in Maylands, it serves - quite honestly - the best breakfasts and cakes in Perth! I love the vintage decor (imagine a 50s style diner) - it’s so cosy to curl up in a booth with a pot of tea and a slice of the amazing chocolate banana bread. I also highly recommend the red velvet cake, Turkish orange cake, vanilla slice and the avocado bruschetta is delicious! The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, I genuinely haven’t experienced service like that anywhere else in Perth. And the owner Matt is so lovely, you can tell from talking to him (he does the rounds greeting diners) that he is super focused on good old fashioned customer service and making sure that everyone has a positive experience. I’ve tried many other cafes but none come close to Sherbet, I’d recommend it in a heartbeat! Best cafe in Perth, hands down!

Love love love. All to often I go to a coffee shop/cafe/patisserie and not have a great piece of cake. This has never happened at Sherbet. Opposite the railway line in Maylands, this busy little cafe has an amazing selection of cakes to choose from. I’m pretty sure the high volume of customers ensures that there is always fresh cake available. You order at the counter and it’s delivered to you table. We had the rhubarb tart and the red velvet cake. They did warm up the tart which we didn’t ask for but it was delicious once it cooled down. The red velvet was fantastic. It was moist and the icing was soft and tasty. It’s a pretty big piece so you might want to share - or not. I ordered a pot of tea for tea and it arrived in a vintage teapot which gave multiple cups of tea. Perfect. Parking can be a challenge depending on the time you arrive.

The 2 brunette women next to each other behind the counter on the cash registers never smiled & were clearly not suited to customer service roles, at all..! I first asked for a large Iced Mocha with ice cream & heavy on the chocolate. Also asking for it to not have many many ice blocks please. They asked what number table I was at, but as it was my girlfriends that had gone to choose the table, I frantically looked around for them. Then I spotted them in the very top right hand corner room booth & pointed them out to the Register staff girl. It might just be me, but I found it abrupt of her to react as she looked at me by saying, "So table #10 then right? Will that be table #10?" As I was continuing to still point at the table the 2 of them were just sitting down at I said, "Ok, yes then if that is table #10!" I thanked her & said I'll come back to order our food. Upon returning & when I asked to order 2 bacon & egg wraps for myself & my girlfriend. I was received with a comment of, "Do you see any of them left in the glass cabinet there..?" This abrupt rude remark comes from one of these grumpy looking girls on the tills. I said, "Oh!" as I looked seeing a whole range of different items then responded with, "Are ALL of the Menus items on display in here?" All I got from her was a minor roll of her eyes & a slight nod of agreement. As there were no Bacon/Egg Wraps left I couldn't help it, but had to ask her, "Well can we get 2 fresh ones made up please?" "NO!" She snapped. "None in the glass cabinet means none left at all." It did strike me as not just unreasonable, but more-so odd to not have stocked more for the whole day as it had not even struck 11am & the Saturday peak hour lunchtime crowds have still yet to flood thru the door! So I settled on a Ham/Cheese Croissant & a Bacon/Spinach Frittata both cut in half for us to share. There was only one girl doing table service for the whole shop from what I kept seeing. She brought our dishes out with 2 plates for each. Yet for these both 'pre-made meals' together with the whole cafe not even being a 1/3 full, these dishes took about 15mins or more to reach us & were hardly Luke warm, at best.! You have got to be kidding me... Surely! No matter. Dessert time. So I approached the counter for the third time within the space of an hour now. Standing slightly behind, but just next to the next couple at the counter so that I could lean forward to read the names of the cakes/tarts/slices/muffins etc.. One of the Register girls motioned towards me to serve, but I stepped back & motioned with my hand to the gentleman to my left who was there before me. Now once he was served the queue had grown by a few more people behind us, yet this same staff register girl looks to me & says, "Hang on! You've just come up & haven't been waiting behind these people who have been in queue..." I said, "No I haven't! Because I've been waiting here before these people even turned up! Thank you very much. Now if you don't mind, I'll have the Rhubarb & Apple Berry Tart with ice cream & custard. Could you please cut that one in half again to share as well too please." "So which table will that be then, this time.?" She says looking up at me. I pointed to & said, "That one in the corner again, please." Still no smiles from this same girl. This time the desert takes longer than the two savoury dishes to be delivered to us, but to top it off there is no share plate & another 5min wait for it to arrive. Several minutes later after finishing all three of us leave just as what looks to be the busy lunchtime crowd making their way to the doors.. I would hate to have had to go thru all of that unacceptable service & unprofessional behaviour whilst the place was twice or more as busy as when it was less than a third full... They need to instill some reasonably high level of quality customer service standards into these substandard, snobby, unfriendly females that don't deserve the privilege of being able to have the opportunity to add value to the customers eating out experience...

It isn't too hard to get to since it is just across the road from the Maylands train station. It is a fairly large shop with one side having the bakery and the other being a dining area. They also had a few seats outside. The first thing you see is the counter full of delicious looking baked goods, both savoury and sweet. There was a cupcake cabinet as well as a cake one and the counter was just chokka with pastries and cakes. They have a menu with other items on it too. I ordered at the counter and then found a seat. I grabbed a red velvet cake and iced chocolate to eat in. The indoor dining area was quite interesting, having an American diner feel with booths, old furniture, and photos and other paraphernalia hanging on the wall. The ice chocolate required a bit of mixing otherwise it was just milk. There was a bit too much ice in there for my liking. The red velvet cake was delicious, moist, sweet and tasty. The cream on the side was also nice with the sweet frosting. I also grabbed a few things to take back home, a salted caramel tart, a chocolate cupcake and an almond croissant. They were all quite tasty as well. There were quite a few parents with children when I was there so I'm most likely not the only person who thinks its a great place for an...
