Nice little coffee shop on the Maylands strip. It has a comfy vibe with lots of smaller individual rooms that can be closed off from each other, like an old house that's been renovated into a coffee shop. It is great one for small kids because there's a room specifically with toys and things where you can just close the door and not worry about them disturbing other customers or running amok. This room has the best airconditioning in the place too, so that's a big bonus on hot days when it's too warm to hit the park. There's small table an chairs in there as well as few small tables for adults. The toy offering is more aimed at younger kids and will keep them occupied long enough for you to have some coffee in peace. I've never eaten a cooked breakfast here, they have the usual brekkie basics, eggs on toast, eggs bene', smashed avo, mushies on toast, that kind of stuff. I have always gone for the cabinet foods as well and toasted sandwiches. They get their pasties and donuts from Mary St bakery and make their other cakes in house. You can get coffee + toastie, or ham and cheese croissant, or donut, for a bit of a discount. Overall it's a pretty chill place to spend some time, it's not as noisy or crowded as other cafes on the strip and the small rooms gives a quite intimate feel to the place. Nice for a coffee and cake/pastry.

My 5 stars if for the coffee and the cake me and my partner had. Very nice. Service was a little rushed at the end of day and I felt as if they had somewhere better to be. To be fair it was 2:03 so they were ready to clock off but I don’t see what the big rush is. (No indication as to the shop shut time until you’re inside and already ordered, and the penny drops, people want to leave). After careful thought, I couldn’t critique the shop for it closing on time but customer service is paramount for return patronage. I think at the end of the day, attitude may become sightly lackadaisical and the staff were happy to chit chat with each other, I was unaware the coffee was ready as no one called out (I think this was exacerbated by the fact I felt we needed to be close to the exit door as possible). My partner compared this to her previous work experience at max Brenner and in retrospect they should have put more effort into advising us it was ready. But I’m happy we at least had the opportunity to order. I’ll be back soon, when I get the opportunity and will see how good the bacon and eggs are. Will revise once back.

Where is the accountability from the owner… My friend and I visited with our 16 month olds and had a very disappointing experience. We both had been there before quite a few times and thought it would be helpful to leave a review because she was so shocked at how bad the experience was - the standard was low and the changes to allowing outside food (more so snack for our toddlers) was a cherry on top of a bad experience. The response to her review was so negative, trying to guilt trip her and she took no responsibility nor did she apologise or acknowledge the issues with our food. She has since deleted the comment and gone to Facebook to engage sympathy. Listen, as parents we sympathize…we understand the hustle but also people are paying customers we expect a clean environment and good quality food - for example: no hair on it and cooked through/not stale or dry. Any business that markets itself as family or kid friendly should be aware kids make mess, and yes parents should 100% be cleaning up after their kids but staff should be cleaning up periodically to maintain general hygiene and safety. The tables hadn’t been cleared or wiped and the back area was empty when we arrived. These are all things originally mentioned in my friends review. We surely can’t be the only ones who have a problem with this. It’s all well and good to try and bury my friends low review with positive reviews from friends etc. but all you needed to do was take accountability for the poor quality of food. Take on the feedback and apologise. Guilt tripping and fishing for sympathy on Facebook isn’t a very professsional way to deal with this. Saying you’re getting hate comments is far from what we are doing - a review is feedback/honesty about our experience. Sit down and brainstorm how your business can cater better for your kid friendly environment, keeping parents or patrons accountable too whilst maintaining quality food and cleanliness as any cafe business needs to.

Updated review. I've been coming here for years and was always impressed, however since new owners have taken over, the quality of the food has dropped considerably. Service is still good at the counter and staff are great, but quality of food, presentation and price has changed lots. Prices are higher than most other cafes for same food menu items. I have been here 4 seperate times since new owners have taken over just in case the previous visits were just "off days", but the quality is still not there each time. There is nothing special with the food anymore and it's cooked and presented like anyone can cook at home themselves without any experience. Disappointed ....... .......... ......... .. .......... ......... Whenever I have visited Steam Haus I have always been greeted with extremely friendly and prompt service. There are many places to sit and eat or enjoy a coffee and cake in this wonderful spot. You can sit outside the back on the rear patio on some comfortable tables and chairs or lounge suites and even the bring your fur baby with you. Inside there's lots of little separate rooms with lounge suites and coffee tables you can sit and relax and enjoy your time leisurely reading a book whilst enjoying your coffee or you can sit in the main cafe area or even outside on Whatley Crescent. They have a large range of food including cakes and all day breakfast. They do gluten free options and also lactose free milk with fantastic coffees. Definitely well worth a visit on your trip to the Maylands cafe strip. Its gets busy on weekends so make it early

Good for small kids. Went to this place with the family for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy. The place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. There was a room with a few tables and toys all over the place, so we took a table there. Room heated so the small kids won't be too cold in winter. Some toys to occupy my little daughter. There was a sand pit at the back that both my son and daughter enjoyed playing in. Food also good. I ordered Chilli Eggs. Must have been about 22 to 23 dollars. An Eggs on Toast was about 16. A Kid's Eggs on Toast 7 or 8. From memory coffee was good.

I’ve had the breakfast wrap and ham and cheese omelette here and both have tasted amazing and been really big portions. Staff aren’t overly friendly or chatty but I’ve never had a super negative interaction. I just wish there was more accommodation for dogs here rather than so much for children, as this is advertised as dog friendly. There are no water bowls in the back area and the 2 times I’ve been here they haven’t had dog treats or menu items that are dog friendly. The fake grass in the back area also has a very strong wee smell so needs a more regular clean.
