I wasn't sure what to expect from our planned dinner at the Angliss restaurant at William Angliss College. Right from the very first moment of arriving it was a fun experience. The Angliss restaurant is a training restaurant for the culinary leaders of the future. Staffed entirely by students there is a certain buzz in the air as the students work hard to put their learnings to practice under the eagle eye of their teachers. Each table has an assigned waiter who ensures that your dining experience will be good. The high diner-to-waiter ratio might be a little intimidating for some but it ensures that you get very attentive service. The menu is select but includes some very tempting dishes such as salmon and scallops for entree, steak and barramundi four main and some delicious options for dessert. The wine list is excellent and there is a selection of very good cocktails on offer I tried the old fashioned which is probably one of the best old fashioneds I have had in Melbourne. It's definitely worth a try for something different. Bookings are essential. And you are sure to be surprised by the excellent value for money. Congratulations to William Angliss for providing such a unique experience right in the heart...
Read moreSadly the experience the group I went with did not meet our expectations. The staff I know are in training, but the wait time between being seated at 12.30 to finally getting a menu was half an hour, then another half hour for our orders to be taken. A further 3/4 hr to get entrees. Then a further 3/4 hr to get the main course. Some of us had even longer to wait We had been advised that we would be able to finish by 2.30 and the eftpos machine brought to our tables. But we didn't get our desserts till 2.30. No efpos service, but we had to line up. The food was very nicely presented, but the octopus entree was much too tough. The fried fish was much too tough and sadly the dessert of mousse was so frozen that when I tried to cut into it, the piece went flying onto the floor. Are these trainees supervised? They would be lucky to get a decent job...
Read moreThe booking is quite full most the time, i was lucky to make a reservation 1 day in advance. They only have a 3-course christmas dinner in Dec. And the menu is fixed, you can’t find it online… It is an affordable price for christmas dinner in the CBD. Seem most of the staffs are students, so you can’t expect too much. If you feel like you are missing something such as bread or milk, better let them know. They look like happy to help. The christmas menu included coffee/tea after the dessert, it was a bit disappointed that they run out of milk at the end, but i saw someone drinking a glass of milk at the same time!? Please note the billing time took a very long time, most people were...
