Back Alley Sallyโs is a restaurant and bar located on Yewers St in Footscray. What was once an abandoned old t-shirt printing factory has been transformed and is right next to their sister venues @slicegirlswest and @harryandlarrysgeneralstore.
With the cost of living these days and the average Parma costing around $32, I couldnโt believe my eyes when I saw that they ran a $10 Parma night. The way I RAN to try it! ๐โโ๏ธ
โ Parma - for that price, can you complain? It was super crispy, but surprisingly the ham was shredded and thereโs minimal sauce and cheese. It only came with a tiny bit of salad, we added the chips. There are 7 options to choose from, iโd prob give another a go next time. โ๏ธ Spaghetti Bolognese - homely and enjoyable! We added extra chilli and they reaaaally added the chilli ๐๐ฅ โ๏ธ Zig Ah Zig Ah Pizza - a decent pizza! We would definitely try another one.
It was jamming on a Thursday night with most every table booked! Service is casual but friendly, all orders are placed through QR code. Good for a local dinner that wonโt break the bank (we paid $66.50 for everything, including a jug of lemon, lime, bitters!).
๐๐ฝ Mondays: Latin Night $12 Arepas $15 Patacones ๐ Tuesdays: $9 Pizzas $6 Sides ๐ก Wednesdays: Free Trivia ๐ Thursdays: $10 Parmas ๐ธ Fridays:...
ย ย ย Read moreI've given 3 stars as I've had some great times with friends here.
However, this is now the second time I've had sub par food and seriously, it's not that hard. 6 months ago I ordered a vegan mushroom pizza. It came out undercooked (granted vegan cheese takes ages to melt but still.), but the mushrooms were cool and essentially fell off the pizza. I let it go as we ordered really close to kitchen close time and I felt for a chef.
This time I ordered a salad and asked for a dressing alteration. The person serving me made me feel so uncomfortable about asking! The salad came out without dressing and without a key herb inclusion. My friend ordered a vegan Parma. It was mostly rock hard.
Look, most venues really couldn't care less about catering to a vegan, I'm used to it. But a killer customer service time and a chef who actually cares could make rubbish options not too bad.
I own a local venue, so my service standards are high.
I'll keep coming back for the atmosphere, and some of the staff are lovely af. But as a vegan, I recommend vegans don't order here. There are better venues for that.
And that individual taking our order tonight, seriously. If you're that bored at work or are so annoyed at how people order, move on. This venue...
ย ย ย Read moreLove this place. Love the specials it puts on every week and the relaxed vibe. Would give it six stars if I could.
Unfortunately, I have to drop to three stars because some customers choose to abuse the loose and friendly atmosphere to let their dogs run around off leash around the downstairs bar, the Harry & Larry store, and the outside seating area in Yewers St. If asked to keep their dogs leashed, these customers get abusive in response, which ruins the night for everyone around. Considering that, from Thursday to Saturday, the bar gets to take over Yewers Street with outdoor seating (which is awesome otherwise), and that pedestrians still walk through that street or into the H&L general store, sometimes with dogs on leash, this part is not great.
Again, love the bar and will continue to be a loyal patron, but I haven't been to any other bar that has this issue. Hope management does...
