Very upset by our experience of ordering gluten free buns for our bratwurst. We were recommended this place by other people needing GF. We were reassured when we asked and clarified several times when ordering that our entire order could be done GF for coeliac and steps could be taken to minimise (not eliminate) cross-contamination. Unfortunately our 5yo coeliac whom ate her bratwurst (and nothing else today) got severely glutened - not the kind from cross-contamination but the kind from overt exposure from non-GF bread. Very distressing to her and to us whom had to clean all the vomit/diarrhoea all the way home from vic market. Please please please review your internal policies and training when serving for allergies/preferences. Either don’t offer the GF option, or, as your food is absolutely delicious and there are literally no other GF food options at VIC Market … with a small amount of extra effort and improved attention to safety details for your staff you could safely provide food for coeliacs which affects 1 in 70 Australians, and even more if you count gluten...
Read moreQueen victoria market is one of my favourite places to go in melbourne, and this place is a highlight every time. I get time to go to the market on saturday or sunday and every time I go there I find long queues.
Price wise this place is alright, you pay $7.20 for all the basic sausage roll with sauerkraut and 2 sauces and you pay $.80 for every additional topping. After eating the roll I always get the feeling of money well spent.
You just take one bite and you realise that they take the sausage very seriously. It is juicy, has an amazing texture and the flavour is just spot on. It hits a sweet spot on your pallate and you end up wanting more after you finish it.
There are heaps of sauces to choose from and you have an option to choose from sauerkraut and onions (go for sauerkraut everytime). The variety of sausage flavours is really good as well. So this place is a really good option to try if you are near queen...
Read moreWhile it may look confusing, it's quite orderly once you have time to read the boards at the back. Once you decide on your bun (or without), the first step is choose your hotdog (7 choices). Then your sauces. Finally whether you want sauerkraut. If you are so keen, you can order extra toppings for a price.
Or if you are bored of traditional hotdog with bun, their chopped hotdog with curry sauce and chips is a choice. Anyhow, I absolutely loved their hotdog with bun. Freshly grilled hotdog, delicious bun, superb flavors and hot off the cooking plate, there's really not much to complain.
Their seating is limited and is located outside. If the weather is cold or windy, it can get really uncomfortable. There's a linked nearby indoor space to eat at and I strongly recommend you go over, order a drink there and have a comfortable time eating this...
