It seemed many a cold local was gathered at Burnside this morning for their coffee fix. Some sitting. Some standing. Some there to sit a spell. Some there for takeaway. And, why not. The Melbourne weather was bracing again. Cold, grey and rainy. We all love our coffee.
I’m not sure you can do a coffee corner cafe much better than they do it here. Despite there being a big crowd, service was virtually instant which was very surprising. Provision of coffee was much the same. Incredibly speedy despite the many customers. Mine arrived a few short minutes after I ordered it. And, no skimping on quality either despite the pressure. They make a magnificent seven seeds coffee here. Mine was expertly made. It was delicious and faultless. Everyone around me was getting the same deal as far as I could see. And, as an infinitely wise foodie colleague said in her review of Burnside, there is no Fitzroy snobbery evident here at all. It all seemed relaxed but businesslike. The coffee and sangas sign on the front window speaks to a refreshing lack of formality.

Burnside has recently undergone some changes due to change of hands and the sandwiches have gone extremely downhill. This is now what the beloved Burnside chicken sandwich has come to.
They now use smoked chicken which not only looks raw but also had the texture of ham and smells too smoky when you put your face near it 🤢 I literally couldn’t eat it.
The bread also tastes cheap and they don’t even toast them anymore. There’s just no love in any of it. And if this isn’t all bad enough, the prices have jumped from $11 to $18, which hasn’t even been communicated to customers. I definitely had a shock when I looked in my account.

Read moreA perfect large hot flat white with lingering coffee flavours on tastebuds (not just milk). Smaller sized large than usual but reasonably priced at $4.50 (small is $4). Will definitely go back! Uses Seven Seeds beans.
Have been back 3 times since above 12/09/18 post and coffees are perfect every time. Staff recognise and remembers our order as soon as we step in the door! Can't rate this place...
