Dear reader,

Before you read what I am about to write, ask yourself while reading my feedback, "How would I have acted if I have been treated similarly by Capitano's staff member or at any other place where I may find myself to be a customer of services?" Yesterday, 06/01/2023, we booked a table for 17:45pm at Capitano for dinner with our 7 year old daughter. We arrived at 17:50pm and ordered about 18:00pm. I was working 9 hours before arriving at Capitano. The clock showed 18:30pm and we were still waiting to be served, plus no one came to inform us about why or how long it would take more. I raised my hand and the waiter approached and I asked for how long more we would need to wait until our pizzas arrive and he admitted that the service was slow due to kitchen issues and that next to be served would be us in 5-10'. Within those 30' that we were waiting, three different groups of people arrived and were seated around their tables. While waiting those 5-10' waiters were passing with pizzas in their hands to serve others and some of those tables that gave orders after us. It was now 45' since we ordered, another waiter came to our table and said "we know you've been waiting a while we apologise and we will bring you some pasta with your pizzas they should arrive in 5-10'". Pizzas were arriving, but they never landed on our table. A waiter came and left a plate with some pasta with red sauce. Our beers, which were the only order that arrived 5'after we gave our order, were tasting like urine after almost an hour of waiting our pizzas. Our daughter started eating the pasta as she was starving after an hour of waiting, and the waiter came for the 3rd time to apologise and offered extra drinks and stated our pizzas would come in 5-10'. It was now one hour and 15' since we ordered, I stood up and approached the person who was in front of an ipad close to Capitano's entrance, a guy with a beard. I thanked him for the pasta and extra one glass of beer and expressed my disappointment in their customer service, asking some explanations about why the other 3 tables whose orders were given after ours were served before us. This guy, instead of showing some empathy and being apologetic, he was sarcastic and rude saying, "I cannot make your pizzas appear on your table...if you want you can leave". I sat back and the waiter came for the 4th time to apologise stating that our pizzas were late for an hour and half by that time due to pastas being prepared faster plus that our pizza had some ingredients that took longer to be prepared. That was a lie. Pizzas arrived at 19:30pm we ate one piece each, our daughter didn't want to. We asked for a bill, paid and left. No manager came to apologise to us for an hour and half wait time, for serving other tables around us whose orders were given after ours, for lying to us. We were also the only table to have a kid seated. It was beyond terrible, disappointing, unprofessional customer service. It's not only about serving good food but also strive to provide the best customer service that would make you Capitano to stand out from the others in your...

Visited here finally after hearing so many good stuffs about this restaurant and very happy to find all the fuss about the quality of the food here is top-notch!

Focaccia, this house-made fermented bread is served fresh from scratch means that you will not find this bread nowhere else except hertheir bread with garlic butter alone is a 10/10.

Ricotta, their ricotta cheese is served with chili oil and hot honey thatpresent a complex dipping sauce - hot, sweet, savoury and rich! Sexy!!

Croquette, the filling inside this dish is satisfying and delicious. A perfect fried dish appetizer to complete our order.

Roast beef, many of my friends point this dish as their most favorite appetizer and i could not disagree with them. You will find a delicious beef dish with some great condiments and sauce in it. The crushed pistachio add rich nutty flavour that complete the dish. Every bite is a journey to bring you to the ninth cloud!

Pasta, we had two pastas on that night. The hot pasta (i forgot the name of the dish). The tomato base pasta has a nice hot kick in the flavor which makes the dish has a unique and delicious flavour. The other pasta is a white sauce base dish with some artichoke in it. This dish remind me of some asian chef decide to fuse their culinary home food with italian pasta.

Pizza, i think capitano is truly one of the best pizza restaurants in Melbourne. They offer some authentic and original pizza created with their own fermented house made bread and original sauces. Their pizza serves authentic flavour and...

I am an Australian/Italian and my opinion is: This is NOT an Italian restaurant. We were told it is an American Italian restaurant. Do not be fooled it’s not that either. This is the worst restaurant in Melbourne possibly Australia, if you can even call it a restaurant. Absolute rubbish. Do not eat here stay right away… Firstly, we were forced to have a set menu because there were 8 of us. Told us a whole lot of lies about what we were getting. We were told that we would get pizza. We got something similar to loaf of bread that was burnt and was as thick as four pizzas put together, tasted absolutely horrible!!! We were told that we would get spaghetti marinara, we got canned spaghetti which was absolute rubbish not even enough for one person let alone 8. One small plate between 8 people…really?Told we would get a desert each. We were asked what we preferred either an ice cream with melted chocolate on top of strawberry ice cream with a cherry on top or tiramisu. I ordered the ice cream my partner ordered tiramisu and so did someone else on our table. The other person received their tiramisu, when I asked where is my partner’s tiramisu we were told that we had to share the one tiramisu. It was already half eaten, what a joke. This was the worst experience we’ve ever had, absolute horrible and the waitress kept on lying to us always trying to cover up. Also a very small selection of rubbish beer as well. Do not be fooled!!! This place should not be allowed to serve what we were served last...

Capitano has been on my must-try list for so long, so finally dining there was such a treat! First things first, I have to talk about the interior design. Designed by Chris James Studio, the space feels like a reimagined modern pub—moody, refined, and effortlessly stylish. The dark tones, ambient lighting, and thoughtful layout create an atmosphere that feels classy yet unpretentious. Despite the openness of the space, it still manages to feel intimate, making it perfect for small groups or date nights. I was immediately struck by how comfortable and welcoming the space was. Now onto the food! Dining as a trio, we decided to share three dishes. The Norma square pizza caught our attention immediately, and it did not disappoint. Imagine a perfectly fluffy focaccia layered with pizza toppings—it was rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. It’s super filling, so sharing was definitely the right move (trust me, you wouldn’t want to tackle this one solo!). We also tried two pasta dishes: the Casarecce with prawns and the Cavatelli with pistachio pesto. Both were delicious, but in my opinion, Capitano truly shines as a pizza-first kind of spot. The service was impeccable—the staff were so attentive, and the food came out ridiculously fast (which was ideal since I was starving!). Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I’d definitely come back. Capitano, you’re worth the hype!

Dined here at an Italian pizza and pasta bar and had the following: - Crumbed mozzarella sticks; the crumbed coating had a nice crunch, cheese was stretchy as it should be. Tomato sauce was more like a paste; would have preferred a dip to eat as a finger food - Tortiglioni; pasta had a nice springy texture and the vodka sauce was very flavourful; creamy, savory and tangy - Grandma Square; the pizza dough was essentially like a focaccia baked with mozzarella and parmesan, topped with a sweet and slightly tart tomato sauce, creamy stracciatella and fresh basil leaves. The centre parts of the pizza was soft and pillowy with a nice crunch from the base; and the edges were extremely crunchy with the added salty cheese flavour which were baked to crisp; very tasty. It was great for the first two slices as it became too hard and crunchy on the jaws after - Tiramisu; chocolatey with a decent coffee flavour, quite unique with some hazelnut bits. Missing the nice layered texture of the mascarpone cream and sponge as it was served in a ramekin with a low depth Overall it was a decent meal; food was tasty and reasonably priced for the most part. The pasta was a bit expensive considering there was no other topping. Also the square pizza might have been slightly overcooked. Service was good.
