There’s thin-crust pizzas, then there are Roman thin-crust pizzas from Ciccios that left us gob smacked. A pizza that was the size of a house, where the 15” plate couldn’t house it. A base and crust that’s thin, crispy, and would have been blasphemy not to eat it with our hands.
But let’s start from the beginning. This pizza joint was recommended by Scott, that owns Thin Slizzy in Collingwood, and Scott’s recommendations thus far are winners. Ciccio in Pascoe Vale has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and that is reflective of Andrea’s (owner) personality and hospitality. Andrea served us, and we instantly clicked. It’s a pleasure dining at owner-operated eateries, as the experience is much more personal.
We started with a ‘small’ board of prosciutto, mozzarella, olives, and fresh focaccia. And literally, that’s Andrea’s definition of small, but it was huge. No complaints from us, but lucky we didn’t get the antipasto board like we usually do, otherwise, we wouldn’t have finished it, and we don’t like seeing food go to waste. Anyhow, the prosciutto melted in our mouths, and the mozzarella was fluffy (yes!) and full of texture and the right amount of salt. But the focaccia was the star, and like always, we predicted if we would like the pizza that’s coming next based on the focaccia we have as a starter. Crispy, thin, structural integrity, all ticks!
Now for the pizza, so many choices, but we went for something unique, one might say sweet, and some elements were, but they were there to balance the saltiness of the cheese and meat. The mozzarella, fig, walnut, gorgonzola, prosciutto, and balsamic glaze pizza was full of texture with balanced flavour that made our taste buds dance, our hands turn Italian 🤌🏼, and had us saying minchia. Bravo 🙌🏼. We honestly loved it, flavour-packed, thin base and crust, crispy but not dry, chewy in a good way, structural integrity so you can pick up a massive slice from the 15” pie, and the toppings remain where they should, on top. Brilliant!
We have to say, with our hands on our hearts, when it comes to thin-crust pizzas of the Roman variety, Ciccio takes the pie! Our top pick! Scott from Thin Slizzy (Collingwood) was on the money recommending Ciccio. Scott’s pizzas at Thin Slizzy are our top picks for thin-slice pizzas (non-Roman), but his are different and unique, and really can’t compare them to Ciccio as both have their unique takes on them, and we would say both are on the same level, and in our view, dominate Melbourne’s thin-slice scene (based on the parlours we’ve eaten at).
Andrea, thanks for having us bello, and we will see you again soon!
Edit Nov 21 - 2nd visit. Amazing yet again. Here’s our Instagram post:
Ciccio Pizza in Pascoe Vale is the place to be if you're craving perfection in every bite! 🏡 This cozy pizza joint delivers thin crust, crispy pies that are a true delight.
✨ We started our meal with a delectable prosciutto and mozzarella platter accompanied by complimentary focaccia, which was enough to feed a hunger that roared. 🐯
For the main event, we dived into the Contadina pizza—a flavor explosion with a pumpkin base, mozzarella, potato, Gorgonzola DOP, and onions. Every bite of the thin, crispy, perfectly chewy crust with its balanced toppings was pure joy! 😋
🙌 A must-visit local gem! Plus, Andrea, the friendly owner, and his wonderful staff always make you feel at home. Don't miss out on this unforgettable pizza...
Read moreOrdered 3 pizzas online via menulog. Originally was supposed to receive them in 30 min, waited one hour to have them delivered (I could see the delivery guy was at the shop for at least 20 minutes, waiting). I only received 2 pizzas. Called the shop, at first they tried to blame the delivery guy, then they admitted was their mistake as they have been very busy and told me to submit another order for the missing pizza that we could go and pick up. It was a quarter to nine and I had a guest over for dinner. At this stage we have been waiting more than an hour to have dinner. We decided to go and have a pizza somewhere else. The pizzas from Ciccio were good, nothing to say about the quality, but very poor customer service. This is not the first time it happens, for sure it is the last, as there are other good quality pizza shops in the area.
UPDATE: thanks for the reply and the apologies, however the mistake was made from you as you forgot one of the pizzas. Please do not blame...
Read moreCame here for a dinner with 20 friends for a birthday a few weeks ago (forgot to leave a review)
We received 1 tables worth of food and waited another 30ish minutes for the remaining 2-3 tables to receive their food.
We had people sitting there hungry for approximately 45-60 minutes watching 6 people enjoy their food.
When the remaining food did arrive everyone who had received their food originally was finished.
no compensation of any form was offered, no drinks , no food nor explanation.
As for the food, I can unbiasedly say regardless of how poor the service was it was genuinely average. My pizza was bland for my liking.
Update*
Have since spoken to the manager and she has remedied the situation.
I tried Ciccio's pizza again without the staff knowing I was the one to leave the negative review I can definitely say that the Pizza was better and i'm hoping this is simply attributed to the fact they were busy on our...
