A friend local to the area invited us to the Doutta Galla Hotel for few celebratory birthday drinks. It had been well over a decade since I visited this establishment, then it was The Sydney's Liars Club, and things have changed indeed. The Doutta Galla Hotel has reverted back to its old name and to the early 19th century decor. Tables line the main road for those who enjoy having a tipple outside, but it is inside that really impresses. The building has been kept its old world charm with eloquent lighting, beautiful paintings and use of fresh flowers. The hotel has a functional feel, catering for the variety of clientele it attracts. Old wall paper, lead lighting and the use of natural timbers gives the hotel warmth. There are also many nooks and crannies where you can enjoy a quiet drink with friends away from the bar and the dance floor. Attention to deal is certainly a priority. As birthday drinks were the call of the evening, I cannot comment on the menu. The bar staff were friendly, and attentive noticing who should be served next. The wine list appears extensive displayed by the variety of wine stocked behind the bar. The hotel is divided into different sections, which all seem to complement each other; dance floor, bar, restaurant, private function areas. The clientele was diverse, practically anyone could go there, and the flow of the layout allows for mingling. A large party booking the antique style front room would feel as welcome as those dinning for two in the main restaurant. People were genuinely friendly, allowing one to pass through the crowd. On a Saturday evening it certainly attracts a crowd, but a crowd which encompassed everybody. You don't have to dress over the top, but you can, this place has a casual ambiance. Bouncers. In times where bouncers are seen overbearing and egocentric, the bouncers were quite the opposite. Relaxed and friendly, though clearly observant. They thanked me for bringing glasses in from the outside table. We made an effort to thank them when departing. The Doutta Galla Hotel offers a warm feel, and offers space for those who like to dance, have a meal, or just would like a drink. Certainly a friendly environment with an old world warmth. The only fault I find with Doutta Galla Hotel is that I have not yet tried their food, and during a busy night they could afford to keep their toilets cleaner, which is a problem I think occurs with many establishment these days. A few more bar staff would improve service, not that it was lacking in customer attentiveness.Doutta Galla Hotel gives an old world charm and decor that is often forgotten in modern times. Though I have not tasted their food, I would recommend this establishment for an evening out, well beyond birthday drinks. With such a long history, it is great to see there is plenty of life in the...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting service. We have been coming here for years as our local pub that we always have so much fun at, great vibes from the dance floor, bar, pool table and with usually really respectful and nice security. Well on Saturday night we turned up for my partners bday as planned after a few drinks which we were still in a responsible state and no one highly intoxicated, to be greeted at the door but a new security lady who was absolutely awful. No Hello how you going, just straight out rude, how many have you had to drink, we each had to tell her how many we had, my response of 5 drinks was way over the line even though I am 30 years old and had them over the duration of 6 hours. I'm just honestly speechless at her lack of communication and people skills. I said to her numerous times I understand she is doing her job but the way she spoke to us all was just horrible. Doutta gala you have now lost atleast 50 of us of our mates that regularly would've come for dinners or a night out as my word will be spread. Very very sad you have hired someone like this at your door & for a manager to not come to us and ask how he can help or what the problem is, is just as bad, instead the police were contaced, where is your respect for your customers. This will be reported further, I will...
Read moreWent here to try their Tuesday $20 steak special. Arrived 25 mins early, and they booked a great table next to the fireplace which was pretty good, and by the window- great start.Service was spot on, good recommendations ,with the cauliflower popcorn and onion rings. They got back’ straight away and had sold out of the cauliflower, so straight up offered me a refund no fuss, but I thought I’d check out the other items, got the chicken wings and they waived the price difference, once again good business and customer service. Added the two scotch steaks and a few drinks. Onion rings and sweet bbq sauce were excellent, crispy no oily residue, the wings and ranch sauce great, the steaks were an 8 out 10, salad was extremely fresh and dressing was very very good, making it a 9, the price is crazy here, good thickness and nice char, tasty and pink inside.we looked at desserts, went the safe option of sticky date…it’s ridiculous that for $11 they served up a slab/wedge of light and delicious pudding with the garnish and ice cream, really enough for two ppl, but daughter loved it. Definitely be coming back here, maybe next week, something this good at the price point and service quality...
