I have visited various locations in Melbourne for pho and most authentic restaurants provided me with a divine broth and a generous amount of what I have ordered such as beef brisket, tendons, chicken, beef balls and tripe along with the vermicelli flat noodle plus condiments.
I observed the venue from the outside and it looked rather appealing to dine. My partner and I were seated in a comfortable spot with good temperature. The music overlay was subtle and enjoyable over a meal for sure.
Customer service was pretty generic and not the most prompt compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. The employees seemed rather not trained enough.
We ordered our food and an avocado smoothie and it showed up alot quicker than I expected which was a red flag for me. The food looked appetizing, there were condiments such as bean sprouts, chilli, sauce and lemon.
My expectations were high as I just moved to the area and was hoping this place to be my prime pho spot. Alas! I was drowned in my own disappointment. The broth was the colour of mud, it was watered down so much it tastes closer to dish soap rather than a beef bone broth (The staff member was unsure if it was). The beef was not so ample as I expected Vietnamese hospitality to be. The dish was a spicy special which was not spicy at all (I emptied almost half of the chilli container) I'm brown đ . The noodle was a cheap vermicelli which breaks very fast and can't be picked up by chopsticks or a fork.
The smoothie was an utter disaster! It tastes more like milk than đ„. $8. I told the staff about it and they said they know but they can't change it due to the managers request.
So overall, will not dine there again. It really was a bad experience food...
Read moreThis is no way authentic pho. To be fair, staffs are friendly. This is a nice and cozy place, unfortunately not for pho. Anyone has a taste for authentic pho with at least a good conscience cannot accept this is pho. Let me tell you the recipe: go to the asian grocery supermarket, asking them for pho msg cube and take it home, boil with water. That is their broth. Having pho here, You will not smell the strong aroma wellknown for pho, or the stickiness subtle hidden in the bone broth found in authentic pho. This is MSG soup. You will need to drink a lot of water later on to cure the Chinese Restaurant Syndrome. It can take several hours for MSG to get out of your body, so be careful of the syndromes. They didn't even bother to pound the noodle in boiling water. Or actually they do, but they do not how to do it properly. And this is weird to see that it takes them half an hour to prepare for Pho from order to serve on table. In a typical authentic pho restaurant, the broth soup in the pot, every kind of meat in the boxes. So it cannot take that long to take the order and prepare. This happened to the table next to us. It is fair to say that the taste is adjusted to the inexperienced Kensington residents, which is acceptable. If you really want to taste the authentic pho, go to other place, where you can see Vietnamese lining up...
Read morePho House is probably my favourite restaurant in the Flemington area. I love Vietnamese food and will often go to Footscray or Sunshine to have "authentic" Viet food but I often revert back to Pho House.
The food is fantastic across the board, but my favourites are the Vegetarian Pho, Chicken Laksa, Chickan & Avocado Rice Paper Rolls, Prawn Steamed Dumplings and Beef Pho. I have gone many times with many people and none of us have had any complaints so far.
Atmosphere is great. The music is never too loud, the seating is reasonably spaced and I love the interior personally. Cute little decorations and I love sitting at the window on Racecourse Rd. Toilets are also always in great condition.
The staff are the best. Very friendly and they always remember you. The less confident staff are quieter but when going to an authentic Vietnamese restaurant, I am not expecting phenomenal service. Good service is just a bonus, I have been to plenty of amazing Viet restaurants where the servers don't even smile at you. So no complaints here.
Ultimately as long as you're not conceited or snobby I think you will enjoy the food here. This is not a fine-dining restaurant, and the food of course will vary from restaurant and family recipe. I always enjoy coming in and having a healing bowl of...
