[Terrible hostel experience] I wouldn't recommend this 'hotel' to anyone. I used the '' as I wouldn't call this a hotel at all. To live here, you need to bear with the noise from the pub and from the street. Ppl scream and cars horn are acceptable as you are living next to the street, but the noise from the music playing from the pub are really unreasonable. The pub play loud music until 1am in the midnight which you can hear them clearly in your room. When you call to the reception, they just told you they got license to operate 24 hours and refuses to provide help. Well, if you run a pub, you shouldn't be running a hostel. If you would like to run a hostel, spend some money on the renovation to fix the noise! (P.S. Bad taste for choice of music too.) Further, the internet connection is poor. From their own site they claim they provide free wifi but in fact it's just a 500mb/ week wifi with terrible connection. Keep refreshing and got nothing.. Can't even use google map to search for places to visit at night, not to mention video streaming. Wifi in room is terribly unstable. You can only rely on the data network on your mobile unless you pay extra for the computer in the basement (the keyboards are terribly dirty tho). Last but not least, you never able to get a right mix for the shower water. Either cold to death or too hot. Standing naked next to the shower for over 15 mins is definitely unpleasant experience. (Luck and patience required)

One more thing.. I paid aud90 per night for a private room (which is not cheap at all for this quality of service), but don't expect any privacy as the cleaning lady would just pump into you in early morning without knocking the door. And washroom is closed in the morning ard 1030 for cleaning.

Breakfast is 2 pieces of toast + 1 bowl of cereal + hot drinks. No pancakes if you go in too late (even within the breakfast time). No milk if others finished that morning. (The female staff in the morning just scold on me saying 'no milk!' when I trying to pour out some cereal from the box - why dont u go buy some milk then the 7-11 is just next door! Greatest service in the world.) Cleanliness of toilet and bathroom depends on your floormates.. However, bugs started to come out in the midnight so when u use the bathroom in the midnight say ard 12am, u will see lots of bugs on thw floor).

I lived in more than 10 hostels around the world and I have to say my level of tolerance is really high already.. Yet... I really wouldn't suggest tourists to live here if you need a place to recharge yourself at night for travel.. I m sure there would be some better choice for you. Anyway, if you insisted to stay...

would not recommend. the check in and out is a counter at the pub bar, you feel like you're really inconveniencing the bar person as they have other customers to serve. the rooms start on the second floor and there's no lift. my room was on the 3rd floor so i had to go up 3 flights of stairs to get to my room. i stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm. my dorm mates were nice but the room was not. 2 of the bunkbeds had ladders that were removed and placed haphazardly around the room and once reattached didn't feel stable at all. one of the ladders didn't fit on the last bunkbed so a chair had to be used to get in and out of the top bunk. a good thing was that we were given quilts rather than just sheets. the mattresses were uncomfortable and extremely springy. there was a wobbly single table and chair near one of the two small windows. there were hooks around the room to hang our things but the majority of them were broken off. the room felt dirty and the sheets provided had some staining on them. we each had a small locker to put some bits. there were only four plugs in the room which were nowhere near the beds. the room is definitely not intended for 6 beds. maybe 4 at a push. the showers were dirty and had what looked like mould growing on the upper walls. some of them didn't lock or didn't have a lock as whilst i was showering someone was able to come in and i had to shower with the fear of someone intruding again. the showers themselves were extremely sensitive when adjusting the temperature and would have random bursts of scalding hot or ice cold water, which made the whole experience unpleasant. the shower curtains were dirty too. the windows were extremely thin and the frames seemed old so it was very loud day and night, if you're a sensitive sleeper i wouldn't have the expectation of a good night sleep. very much puts the budget in budget accommodation. the only good feature is that it's in the middle of the city and the free tram zone so it's easy...

Amazing location for the budget friendly traveler. It has washers and dryers available, as well as a common room and decent kitchen. The bar and bottle shop attached are both open very late, and hostel patrons get a 10% at the bar. You cannot hear the bar at all inside the hostel I was really impressed actually. Right next to Chinatown which made finding dinner easy as. The rooms were not the best. It was cold when I visited and so the windows were closed throughout the night and day, and with no other ventilation or air fresheners the room had a very noticeable smell. Granted 6 people to a room. The showers and toilets were also pretty grimey with mould on the walls and the shower curtains. I replace my curtains when they go mouldy, I’m sure a hostel can afford the same. Overall, it’s a decent budget hostel.

The Exford Hotel is a gem nestled in the heart of Melbourne, boasting a superb location that's perfect for both locals and tourists alike. This vibrant spot not only offers a fantastic ambiance but also serves up some of the most delectable pizzas in town. What truly sets the Exford Hotel apart, however, is its impressive drink selection. From classic cocktails to craft beers, they have it all. But what truly elevates the experience is the expert team behind the bar. Lukas, Michaela, and Dani are exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring that every patron feels welcomed and well taken care of. The Exford Hotel remains a top choice for those seeking a fantastic location, mouthwatering pizzas, and an extensive drink selection in Melbourne.

Nice hostel with the affordable price in Melbourne, room got enough space for everyone, nice kitchen with the ingredients left from the previous customers and they got a big freezer pantry for everyone, nice washing machine and drying machine with the card payment method, the equipment are just better than the hostel crowded with beds and tiny space, no free breakfast service and its atmosphere for socialize like Europa hostel though, but anyway it's a great option with its living quality and you can also book in their website first then pay in cash when you check in : ) Close to the supermarket and Victoria market (the one with the most reasonable price according to the local), awesome.
