F.A.T. Fried and Tasty — Restaurant in Melbourne

In my experience at F.A.T. Fried the staff has never ever let me down. I walked in one day and ordered three pieces of chicken and chips. Five minutes into my meal the chef walked out with a serve of gravy. He said, you can't eat chips dry, the gravy is on the house. That's not just service, that's understanding.....Today Sunday the 27th of March 2022 l walked into F.A.T Fried and Tasty, l had a great meal. What l have been noticing for some time is when you order food you get more than what you order. That's great value for money. There was 2 waitress working on the night. One was El , l didn't get the name of the second waitress, but she was just as friendly. This is a great place to eat, where the food is great and the staff are even better. I'm very big on public reviews so l always call it the way it is. I don't write bad reviews and l don't endorse restaurants with bad food and bad staff, if l don't like the place l just don't go back. I've eaten here a few times when I want to treat myself to fast food style and it's pretty good stuff. It's about what I expect for that kind of mid-upper end price point burger joint like Coburger or my fave, Easey's. Neither better or worse TBH and no complaints as they deliver. The service is efficient verging on brusque and quick without a fuss in this busy venue. It's just something about the crowd I don't love; while it's quite mixed it's like all the people who would perhaps normally go to Halaal restaurants in the area but feel like they're 'too good' for that and come here instead cos they see it as more upscale (in their perception). Including Lygon St boy-racers from the burbs. I can't put my finger on it, like there's a slight underlying hostility you get in some places where you walk in and you feel a little unwelcome. It makes me slightly uneasy. I'll put it down to 'overwhelming ratio of dudes.' It is kind of dude food so that part. I was also surprised to see they have some artwork on the wall nicked from my blog from an article on IGA history, an item from my personal collection. They have reproduced it without asking and my entire online publication has a clear intellectual copyright statement. I am a KFC regular love a chicken burger and fries chicken in general. Went there for poutine for Canada Day but added the hot hot (hot chicken burger) chicken and waffles and the Mac and cheese. To share with my Canadian girlfriend. I started with the burger and oh my it was epic. Tender, slightly spicy, perfect bun and a great slaw/salad mix. The best chicken burger I can think of ever having. Next was the chicken and waffles. Never tried that combo before. The chicken was sweet from the maple syrup which I quite enjoyed, the waffle was soft and made from pancake batter. ( I though waffles were crisp but my gf informed me they can be either but usually soft). I tried a bit of chicken and waffles at the same time but was unimpressed, the beauty of this dish was to eat the chicken first and then dip the waffle in the vanilla ice cream and eat it after the chicken. The poutines while not being real Canadian style. Was enjoyable enough high on salt which meant high on flavour, nice gravey. At this point all that was left was the Mac and cheese which was could not eat because we were full and had not cutlery. Once home I tried it and was very disappointed.
