I'd have given six stars if I could. Visiting from Perth, this place was recommended by our local hosts. What a great recommendation! The staff are brilliant, masters of their craft, and I'll tell you that keeping these cute, warm, friendly, local cafes humming is a hard craft at that. Friendly and welcoming from the outset, but deftly picked up on us not being huge fans of heaps of chat. The coffee order was ready so quickly I'm quietly unsure whether they employed some form of dark magic to know my order before I placed it, but whatever farmyard animal had to be sacrificed in order for them to commune with the spirits and get my soy flat white ready so fast, it was worth it because the coffee was faultless. They don't skimp on portion sizes. The pricing is reasonable. The suppliers for their eggs, bacon and sourdough are too notch and delicious.
This is the type of local cafe that, at least the people of Perth, conjure up in their minds when they think of Melbourne and espouse why they love coming here so much.
The team at Fig and Walnut are brilliant, the atmosphere is fantastic and the food and beverages are delicious.
If you've read this far, reward yourself by heading over there and saying hello to them. Maybe order from the sweet treats display case up front, which if I'd noticed in advance, would've formed the entirety of...
Read moreI have been looking forward to trying this cute cafe for a while, my experience wasn’t great at all. I came in with my family and waiting to be greeted by the staff, the barrister didn’t even look up and knowledge us and the waitress walked right by us and no hello I’ll be with you in a minute. Absolutely nothing. I then asked her if we can grab a table ourselves. I would understand if they were busy but the cafe was quite empty when we arrived. Sure we got service when we sat down. My sons babycino never arrived I had to follow up on it. My cauliflower meal just wasn’t nice tasted like oil, I then ordered two poached eggs and decided to pick out the bread from my meal and try eat them together but my eggs were sooo runny undercooked I felt sick trying to eat them so that was a fail too., my meal left pretty much untouched . My husband did enjoy his brisket tho.
One of the reasons I wanted to visit this cafe was that they had the cubby house for my son to play while we enjoyed our breakfast but there wasn’t any chalk available or toys. Just an empty...
Read moreI tried to get a table this morning to grab some food and a coffee, but as soon as the waitress saw I was holding a laptop she said they didn't have any tables available because "the tables inside are booked". There were a couple of tables occupied, but many were not... Perplexed, I asked "are there any tables leaving soon?" which she replied "no, they are booked after that as well..." Sure.....
I completely understand that cafes would prefer to have a high turnover of patrons ordering food and coffee on a weekend rather than one person taking up a table with their laptop and maybe spending $30 on coffee and brunch, but the fact that I've had this experience means I will never spend another cent at this cafe. Considering my partner and I have just bought around the corner, we would have spends thousands of dollars at this cafe whilst we live in the area. Until now, we've had good coffee and food from Fig & Walnut, which makes the impact of this ill-advised judgement call really disappointing.
You've lost me as...
