Meh. It’s OK but I wouldn’t rave. Service was quick and that’s blessing when you’re pressed for time. It was buzzing here at lunchtime. I went for a fruity shiraz with the BBQ brisket with low carb superbun. The low carb superbun is a forlorn thing. I should have been prepared for it. It’s flat and featureless with little flavour. I wish I’d risked the carbs on a bun. The burger had a lovely deep smoky flavour. I was enjoying it until I hit fatty seam that was rather chewy. That took up a few minutes. Then, I realised that the whole thing was a bit lukewarm. I thought of complaining but that’s rarely my style. I then started to worry about the cold breeze coming in from the street and the overall volume of noise in what are pretty prosaic and underwhelming premises. Add to that that I found the service here transactional at best. I was unmoved by the experience. Conclusion: there are much better options on this iconic...
Read moreUsed to be 4 stars but then I saw the bad food handling practices. They will scoop sauce onto a bun and then scrape the bun to get a flat layer, but all the bread crumbs (a lot!) Go back into the sauce/condiment tub. They used to advertise as gluten free and now the still have big GF stickers on every window but beware; they have reinvented GF to mean gluten friendly aka a friendly amount of gluten is added to every meal and a spoonful of gluten containing breadcrumbs to every gluten free bun or other item. Really disappointed. They need to take down all "GF" claims or -much better do a gluten free accredited training eg. Coeliac Victoria and teach staff how to handle food better, it is not that hard really and would make a huge difference to so many. I hope to change this review back to 4+ stars one day when...
Read moreNestled in the heart of Degraves Street, this Grill’d offers a cozy pit stop for burger lovers navigating the bustle of the city. The outdoor seating is a definite plus, especially with the gas heaters keeping things toasty on cooler Melbourne days. Inside, seating is more limited — a narrow stretch along the side that feels more functional than inviting.
As for the food, there’s a noticeable shift. The burgers, once hearty and satisfying, now feel like they’ve been put on a diet — smaller in size and less generous in filling. The chips, too, have lost their signature charm. That herb seasoning that used to coat the cup and linger at the bottom for dipping? Practically vanished. What was once a flavourful ritual now feels like a missed...
