Expensive, rude, unclean, dodgy. I wish I could give this place ZERO stars.

My advice? DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER GOING HERE! I was in Melbourne on holidays with my family recently and we dropped in for coffee and breakfast. From the moment we arrived it was not good. The interior is very bland and not very clean either. It wasn’t busy at all so we asked for a table for 6 people and were pointed towards the corner. There were no menus so we had to go get some ourselves. Soon after beginning to look at the food and drink options, the young male waiter come over and almost barked at us ‘Ready?!?’. We quickly ordered our drinks and food and he just walked off - didn’t even take the menus away.

The drinks and two items of food came out quickly and then the other 4 items took another 10 or so minutes more.

Even though we’d asked for no bacon on the French Toast, when it came out it had bacon all over it. We told the waitress who took it back to the kitchen and returned with a ‘new’ plate a few mins later with a banana on top. My daughter attempted to eat some of this second dish but it tasted horrible! She lifted up one piece of toast to find that it was simply a piece of bread cooked on top of an egg. There was almost no sweetness - a bit of poor quality ‘maple-like syrup’ and zero icing sugar. She then lifted up the banana to find…you guessed it - more bacon.

We complained to the waitress about this dish, as well as my sister’s omelette because it was so tough, salty and flavourless that it was inedible. We explained that we were happy to pay for everything except the French Toast and the omelette when the manager/owner came out to confront us. He tried to make excuses about why the French Toast had bacon on it (his excuse of saying that our dish had been swapped with another diner didn’t even make any sense logically) and told us that because my sister had begun eating her dish, he could not refund that one.

In the end we had to threaten to walk out and not pay for anything before he gave in and agreed to only charge us for the other dishes. As part of this though, he decided to whack on a 10% surcharge for no good reason.

There are PLENTY of other places to eat and drink nearby so my advice is to walk straight past this place and get somewhere...

We popped in last Saturday 14/12.

The street seating area is very cramped for all of the restaurants down this street- it’s fine kinda adds to the charm.

We had a lovely blonde girl serve us who I think is ESL. When I said I wanted the Roasted Pork Belly I had to say it about half a dozen times because she didn’t know what I was saying. We ordered a Big Breakfast and the Pork Belly.

The wait time was about 25-30min? There wasn’t much in the way of communication. The table next to us ordered, received their food and ate all of their dishes before our food arrived. The food honestly wasn’t worth the wait.

The big breakfast was very bland and a little bit undercooked. The hashbrown was good, but it’s a hashbrown.

The pork belly was terrible. We could barely cut through the ‘crackling’ and I couldn’t chew through the ‘crackling’ it was that tough. The pork was very tough and over cooked. This dish with surcharge was nearly $40. I’ll even attach the video of us trying to cut through it and this was after my partner had been trying to cut through for like 5 seconds before I started filming.

The meal with a soft drink was about $75 including Sunday surcharge (I don’t think it’s a big deal but worth mentioning). I don’t mind paying a bit for a good meal, but I strongly advise against going to this establishment.

I think this is one of those places that puts the effort in getting customers, but everything after that is lack lustre including the food. No one asked us at all throughout or at the end of the meal how it was. I’d say this is one of the most disappointing meals I’ve ever had- especially for the...

I was a minute or under away from Xpressomondo with my mother to introduce her to my partner over a meal. Halfway down from the stairs from Degraves Street about to approach Flinders Lane I got a call from my partner saying he got us a table but we need to get there now and apparently need to order now. And the guy was basically pushing him to go. I never had experience like that on degraves street at other cafes. I would normally have waiters ask me for a coffee while I wait, even if it was a busy period. I said we are almost there but we haven’t even sat down. How are we meant to order? My partner kept telling him that we were two minutes away. We weren’t even two minutes we were under a minute. 30 seconds or less we arrived. My partner said see, they’re here. He then went to call my partner rude ect and he was just doing his job. Then walked off and didn’t even ask if we wanted a coffee. So what was the point of all of that.. So not a great way to welcome people especially if they are a tourist like my mum. Kinda gave a unwelcoming vibe when we arrived. Luckily the food was yummy. Coffee was good and the ladies that served us were really sweet which helped us enjoy our experience from that moment. But as I was eating, I was noticing some people who were sitting next to us and didn’t order anything and didn’t get spoken to like we were. I will avoid this place if I see this guy working there....

We had a terrible experience here. The duck risotto was bland with no seasoning, no garlic or salt. I had to salt it twice and I hardly use salt usually! The duck leg was so tough I couldn’t cut it or chew it. It should have been falling apart! An Italian restaurant with two cheap Australian reds, not even an Italian red wine to complement your meal. My daughter’s meal didn’t come out with the other three meals and there was no explanation given. It took us ages to find a waitress to ask where it was and she said it was burnt so they had to start again. We all finished our meals and she still didn’t have hers. When it finally came it wasn’t even toasted and was just a panini bread with chicken and avocado inside. So disappointing for close to $30. A surcharge of 10% for eating on a Saturday night - unbelievable. When feedback was given about the poor food the duty manager told me the boss is going to just shut the doors and quit because the staff are so bad. This place has serious problems. He gave me $10 off (bad duck was $34.50). He didn’t handle the complaints well, I’m guessing he gets many! I would have rather the entire $170 refunded. This is bad bad food in Melbourne and was a very disappointing time for our family visit to Australia. I don’t recommend this restaurant at all.

Ah, Xpressomondo — where the espresso is average, and the ambiance is curated by the high-pitched wails of tiny humans mid-exorcism. Yes, we unknowingly booked ourselves in for “Bring Your Screaming Toddler to Breakfast Day,” a sensory experience like no other. Nothing pairs with eggs quite like a full-volume tantrum over who gets the blue crayon. Now, onto the food. The Big Breakfast arrived looking like it had survived a mild car crash. The tomato was raw and cold — bold choice, clearly meant to shock the palate awake. The bacon was greasier than a mechanic’s handshake, and the sausage? Let’s just say it was “al dente” with a surprise spice kick that whispered, “you’re going to regret this in an hour.” Amid the chaos and chlorophyll explosion (seriously, who needs that much leafy garnish?), the scrambled eggs emerged like a golden, fluffy MVP. Honestly, they deserved a round of applause — if only we had hands free from covering our ears. Service was… fine. Not bad, not great, just kind of there, like a distant cousin at a family BBQ. Not quite the polished Degraves service we were promised, but then again, the staff probably suffered hearing loss too.
