Shocking experience tonight. I’ll preface this review by saying, when the food is good – IT’S GOOD! However, when it’s not served correctly, it’s incredibly bad.

I believe that customer service makes or breaks an establishment and can completely elevate a dining experience – the last few times I’ve been to this particular Brunetti in Flinders Lane I’ve experienced some pretty appalling customer service. Tonight might be the worst though.

We were served by a young blonde girl who had a pretty distinct bad attitude right from taking our order, which continually got worse the more we dealt with her. We had asked for our desserts and coffee order takeaway, she placed the desserts on plates to hand over the counter. I responded with “oh I’m sorry, we asked for takeaway. Did we not say that?” (please keep in mind that I was fully aware that we had indeed asked for takeaway, but I was wanting to provide the young girl an ‘out’ so that the fault didn’t solely land on her.) She however replied with “no you didn’t” quite abruptly. All that would have to change would be her placing the items in a box, instead of on plates – so I couldn’t understand where the attitude was coming from as there was no huge effort to rectify this. She then added “we don’t do the icecream takeaway anyway.” That came as another shock to me – especially considering that this might be the tenth time I’ve gotten this exact order,- each time being takeaway. So I told her that fact and an asian lady scooping icecream next to her said that they did indeed do icecream takeaway, the girl then proceeded to box up the order for takeaway.

When we opened the box, we found our desserts pretty luke-warm/cold (even though they are supposed to be heated up so that the chocolate in the middle is sauce-like, almost like a lava cake but more dense). So we took the desserts back up to the counter to be rectified. We spoke to a young man with short dreadlocks who agreed to re-do the order (including the icecream that was now very much melting and was supposed to be eaten with the hot chocolate desserts) He went over and was speaking to the young blonde girl who we overheard loudly state “I did heat them up!” There was some eye-rolling and screwed up facial expressions on her end which we didn’t appreciate. The young man with the dreadlocks brought our boxed order over to us finally and we inspected it, only to find that one of the scoops of icecream was very lacking (each scoop is an extra $3, so we felt just in asking for the scoop to actually be a full scoop).

We tried to get the young man’s attention for this and he put his finger up in a ‘give me a minute’ gesture and headed behind a wall. After waiting a few moments, we asked an asian lady if she could please make our scoop a ‘full scoop’ and she did. She happened to be the manager and we voiced our feedback to her, to which she replied that she’d “seen that.” Not sure what part she’d seen, but she apologised for the bad experience. Even after all this had happened, the young man with the dreadlocks who just needed us to wait for a minute, still hadn’t come out from behind the wall.

A few things outside of this one experience that I want to note are that when ordering any food or drinks (even when dining in) you’ll have to go up to the respective counters (different counter for drinks) to collect your order and then return to your seat. It’s a very packed, oftentimes crowded establishment (which is why we opt for takeaway). If you order a coffee that usually comes with chocolate powder on top – you have to put the powder on yourself at the counter. On top of a card surcharge, you will also be charged a 10% surcharge on weekends.

This experience has definitely left a pretty bad taste in our mouth, even though the desserts,- when are done correctly,...

Where to start... As you can see by the pics the food is produced w the freshest ingredients making EVERYTHING devine, delectable and absolutely scrumptious leaving you wanting more! If you love to indulge in the finer things in life with 5 Star quality and services, excellent and attentive staff, you won't be disappointed.

It's like an extremely well organised and managed bee hive.

The team in each location behind the counters are quick, efficient, communicative and wonderfully patient whilst taking your order at one of three stations

The collection counter: the team running this coffee/beverages station have a seamless system where you're not waiting long for your drink's, water is readily available on the counter and you pickup your drinks from here.

If you've purchased your food at the Patisserie, you can search for your table... If you can find one. Though, there's a constant flow of patron's coming and going. It's easy as there is ample room

If you ordered food, again, this doesn't take much time at all, given an order number to take a seat and await your delivery e.g. my Eggs Benedict came in the nick of time once I'd settled in, drink's, water and full of excitement, was approximately 15mins - 20mins. For the spectacular presentation, Michelin star quality of food, this was outstanding!

The restaurant has many different spaces in the one complex:

Courtyard dining at the entrance is spacious, comfortable and refreshing.

The Patisserie is a little more quiet and peaceful if you just want to chill out, read a book/study, or just people watch as the world goes by is, in my opinion, quite therapeutic.

The restaurant end is where all the action happens. It feels like a hustle and bustle zone, fast-paced environment, traveller's trekking through, local's hosting visitors, or a speed dating vibe as the tables turnover that quick speaks volumes about this fantastic establishment with commendable customer services, world class food & beverages, and diverse dining areas to cater to all you desires, and so much more...

An Unforgettable Experience – A Must-Visit

I recently had the pleasure of visiting and I must say, it was nothing short of fantastic. From the moment I stepped inside, I was met with an inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a wonderful evening. Every detail about this place, from the food to the music and the people, made it an experience to remember.

Food: Let’s start with the food—it was simply awesome. Each dish was carefully prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re looking for traditional fare or something more adventurous, their menu has something for everyone. The portions were generous, and every bite left me wanting more. I’d highly recommend the which was cooked to perfection. You can tell they put real passion into their cooking.

Music & Atmosphere: The music was another highlight of the night. It perfectly complemented the vibe of the place never too loud but always creating the right mood. The playlist was a well-thought-out mix of classics and new hits that kept the energy alive without overpowering conversation. The decor and lighting added to the warm, welcoming feel, making it an ideal spot to relax with friends or enjoy a night out.

People & Service: One of the standout features of is the people. From the friendly patrons to the staff, everyone contributed to the great atmosphere. The staff was exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready with a smile. They went above and beyond to make sure every guest was well taken care of. It felt like they genuinely cared about ensuring everyone had a great time, which is rare these days.

Overall Experience: is more than just a place to grab a drink or meal—it’s a destination. The combination of great food, music, and service makes it a spot where you can spend hours without realizing it. Whether you’re looking for a place to unwind after work, celebrate with friends, or just enjoy a great meal, this should be at the top of your list. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Five stars,...

Honestly the worst dining experience we’ve had in Melbourne during our visit. My partner was excited to try it as we’d heard very good recommendations. On the outside this place looks cosy and intimate but once you go in, you realise it’s just a food factory. There’s absolutely no sequence of service so if you’re new to the venue, you have no clue how it works. Not even a greeting from any of the staff. Once we realised it was a “sit wherever” situation and that you ordered at the counter, we lined up ready to order. We had couples come up to the counter after us and they were served first. TWICE we had someone push in front of us and staff served them without a second thought. We ordered our food and some cocktails, were told that food would be brought to the table however we had to go up to a different counter to get the cocktails. Very inconsistent service. We decided to get a basic spirit while we waited for our cocktails - no Jameson and no dry/gingerale so we got a Jim Beam and lemonade. $16 for a basic spirit and there is no postmix option so you’re forced to purchase a bottle of soft drink, but they don’t let you keep the rest of the bottle. The espresso martini we ordered was watery and full of coffee grains sticking to the side of the glass. Upon receiving our food, we realised that the server has put through the order incorrectly so rather than the Salumi Misti that we ordered as an entree, we received the Salumiere pizza. The food itself was very average and not worth the price. You’d get a better meal from Sal’s further down the road. Overall this was such a disappointing experience especially considering we spent almost $200. We were there for less than an hour. When we were leaving we walked past staff without even so much as a “goodbye” from any of them. We will not be returning and definitely not passing on any recommendations.

Brunetti Oro 1956 – A Melbourne Icon. A must visit for me whenever I go for AO. Brunetti Oro 1956 is a legendary establishment in Melbourne, steeped in rich history and Italian tradition. Originally founded in 1956 by Giorgio Angele, who arrived in Australia as the official pastry chef for the Italian Olympic team, Brunetti has since evolved into a beloved institution known for its exquisite cakes, pastries, coffee, and authentic Italian cuisine. Located in the heart of the city, Brunetti Oro is always bustling with people—a testament to its enduring popularity. The atmosphere is lively, with a mix of tourists, locals, and long-time patrons who come for the indulgent treats and the nostalgic charm. The display cases are filled with a dazzling array of meticulously crafted desserts, from delicate cannoli and creamy tiramisu to perfectly glazed fruit tarts and decadent chocolate cakes. The coffee is another highlight, brewed to perfection with the deep, rich flavors that Italians take pride in. Pairing a cup of their signature espresso with a slice of their legendary millefoglie or sfogliatella is a must for any visitor. The savory menu also offers excellent options, including fresh panini, pasta, and gourmet pizzas. Despite being packed most of the time, service remains efficient, and the quality never wavers. The ambiance, reminiscent of a classic Italian café, adds to the charm, making it an ideal spot for a quick bite, a leisurely afternoon coffee, or even a special celebration. Brunetti Oro 1956 isn’t just a café—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime fan, the combination of history, quality, and atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination in Melbourne.
